Somehow, it won't be as good, right?  Wish I could have tried the original location . . . just in case.

Either that, or it'll be fine.

Really? Out of everything in those photos your complaint is the bun?

Hey Gents,

So I am taking a foreign female down to Fredericksburg from Dallas and taking the back way via 67 and then 16. I know there is Cooper's on the way but no idea if it has become a name brand or is still worth hitting.

I would love any recommendations on places to stop along the way. Thank you!

Many here will disagree, but I've found Cooper's in Llano to still be putting out quality food.

Ordering from the pit and the ambiance inside are both classic Texas BBQ that should be a cool experience for a non-Texan.

I agree with this. Just get the pork chop and be happy. The beans are good, too. Beware of salt.

I am a brisket guy, is there's bad? Apparently the Texas Monthly 50 has a place in F-Burg listed called Eakers.

I haven't had a good experience there in 8 years. There's a reason locals go to Inmans now.

Eaker is top 50 and run by awesome people. They return from vacation on tomorrow I believe.

If you go down 183 Youngs BBQ is in Lampasas and I've heard good things, but haven't been since they moved from San Saba

If you want or need Fredericksburg recs, shoot me a PM. I lm a local and have a list.

That reason is the turkey sausage, and it's been the reason for a long time.

Happy Married At First Sight GIF by Lifetime

I can remember eating at Inman's when it was on the other side of 16 before the fire.

We used to haul loads of smoked turkey, turkey sausage, and fresh bread back home as xmas gifts for clients and friends.

Current spot was the Ramblin' Rose (RIP the "Hunter's Ball" - that was a throwback.)  I still go regularly.  It's all still the same and I enjoy it.

I'll tolerate Coopers and like the pork chop and smoked sirloin if I go, but it isn't somewhere I'll go for brisket.  That's not to say others don't like it.  Too salty and often with a pot roast consistency for my taste.

There's a new spot in town right on 16 just north of the bridge that is interesting to pop in.  Brett's Biltong (South African air dried beef).  Really good and sort of a butcher shop/deli combo.  I think you can even sit for a beer or wine.

Inmans turkey sausage is fantastic.

Haven't been to H-town in over a year, have a minute and pop into Corkscrew. Line was from the counter to the door at noon.  Not bad at all.
Ordered a rib plate with mac & cheese with 1/2 pound of moist brisket.  The ribs were great.  I ate everything on the plate except the biggest rib.  I was solo and just didn't want to feel bad all afternoon, LOL.  The mac & cheese was better than most in that was creamy and cheesy, not that goopy shit that is just stuck together like noodles and paste. I dipped the bread in the sauce.  It was fine.  I'm not picky there.  I view sauce basically as a parachute for bad meat.  That was not needed today.

The brisket was the best I can remember having.  I know sometimes you just luck out on the cut, but it was a tender chew, with the fat rendered perfectly.  I was eating alone and took my time and was soooo grateful not to have to rush.  Cutter threw in a burnt end at my request.

Plate was $48 with a 15% gratuity- fuck it, they are a mom and pop, so let's go.  My meal was a 10 out of 10 and I'm a grumpy sumbeech.  That's indeed pricy, but if I had had a buddy with me we probably would have only added some sausage and another side.

2 things that were interesting/ funny to me:

1) no knives available.  That's putting your money where your meat is.  I didn't need one, once I got going.

2) those sliced jalapenoes were like playing Russian roulette.  First one was damned near bell pepper.  2nd slice was about a 6 out of 10.  they kept going like that.

Corkscrew has one of the most efficient lines in barbecue.   At many other places, that line would have taken an hour.

That plate is gorgeous.

I have no idea how y'all eat that much food, even missing a rib.  Looks good, though.

It was the only thing I ate that day, which probably wasn't healthy either.  I was up at 4:30 AM and when I got my 'Cue, it was about 12:30.  I didn't have any breakfast or dinner. Had a couple of beers back at the hotel, which according to the other thread, is giving me cancer.

Oh well, had a terrific lunch.  They delivered, for sure.

Youre welcome. Which kind was your fave?

So far, the OG. May give the lemon pepper to a friend who needs some goodness in their life and just order another batch.

My 3YO daughter also loves them, which is an expensive habit to pick up lol.

Damn.  They proud they beef chips.

$94.69 per pound?  Seems reasonable.

They’re basically uncut cocaine in meat form, so I’d say the price is a relative steal.
