I've had more terrible mesquite smoked barbecue than good.  Valentina's was an exception.

I smoke on my egg.  I use Post Oak lump charcoal.  And then add in some chunks of post oak and mesquite.  I love the mix.  Grant Pinkerton uses a mix of post oak and mesquite in his smokers.

stopped at city market on the way to SA today ...

1. it was very good. still the best sausage in the world, but the brisket and ribs were extremely edible. brisket was a step behind elite. the ribs and brisket had a nice crust.

2. this is a working man's bbq stop. lower pricing. the entire place was older mexican people and black families. $23 / lb is a fair deal. my total was $29 - two slices of brisket, 3 ribs, 2 links.

3. got there at 2, 20 mins in line. line was out the door when i left.

next time im buying a case of cold sausage, they sold out today

yesterday i was afraid that burnt bean would be sold out of everything (they close at 3). so i pulled into city market

any other bbq spots off i10 ?

city market isn't top tier but it sure hit the spot yesterday

Had Hutchins BBQ yesterday for Easter brunch. Best BBQ for my money (~$40/lb) in a 50 mile radius.

I highly recommend the chicken wings at Winston's in Austin. It's a Jamaican food truck. They use jerk seasoning and then smoke 'em. 10/10.

kg bbq. brisket was not good. unrendered fat, tough, dry. sliced way too thick...received 1 slice that was a half lb. lamb chop was good but nothing special, not a lot of flavor. ribs were the best thing with a nice sweet glaze but could've used more savory flavor. sides were good. unimpressed overall.

Another person is suing them for spilling scolding hot bbq sauce on themselves. Surprised they haven’t put their sauce in labeled containers after the first incident

Pic from B-Daddy’s in helotes $20 and change for the 2 meat plate. It was okay brisket and the rib was above average. Jalapeno cream corn and mac n cheese were good.

You gotta get one of the rice bowls there. You don't just get straight meat. Get a rice bowl with smoked kofta and a rib or two. They have the best rice I've ever eaten in my life.

If the best thing on your tray/ plate is NOT the meat; then you are not at a great barbecue location.

But the meat is good, just not the brisket. Open your mind a little.

It's a pretty highly regarded BBQ joint.  Different, but very good.  It's possible it was just a bad day.

KG may put out exceptional BBQ, but they also seem to be fairly inconsistent.  Someone having a bad meal/meat there isn't some wild claim no one has heard before.

I mean, he did lose to someone who didn't know how to bbq on that Netflix show.

I know it's reality TV and, therefore, completely fake.  But that was ridiculous.

Kareem wins the brisket challenge and then loses making leftovers of shitty KC brisket burnt ends.

Had to travel from Houston to Laredo today and was very disappointed to learn that Burnt Bean is only open Thu-Sun.

Stop there when I hit the coast. Enjoy everything. I also pick up cold links; use them for my shrimp boils in addition to eating.

Pizzitolas… flame away

Wayyyy better than it looks. Ribs are fantastic. Brisket is  fine. Jalapeno cheddar sausage is darn good, as is jalapeno cornbread

My house is closer to Truth than Pizzitolas. Just trying to check off every bbq joint that has ever been on any TM Top 50 list, ever. Pizzitolas was on the 1997 top 50
