Stopped at Reese Bros Barbecue in Thursday on the way to Baffin Bay.  Got there right at Noon and there were 4 people in line.

Brisket tacos, poblano mac and cheese, herbed slaw.  Everything was great.   Not shown - half pound each of brisket and carnitas and four tortillas.   Brisket tacos before heard out for a day of fishing is the way to go.

Swung by 2M Smokehouse on the way home, but the line at 11:00 was too long.   Probably 20 folks.

2M is better than Reese for Brisket imo. But I think Reese might have them beat on everything else.

I haven't been to Schoepf's in 15+ years. If I decide to get off 35 there, I'll go to Miller's instead.

Did I read somewhere that Schoepf's is under new ownership now?

best bbq spot in temple/belton?

hi.

Depending on date and time you are passing through, in no particular order:   Miller's, Schoepf's, Pustka Family BBQ, The G Wagon, check the Facebook pages for the last 2 as they typically sell out and hours are limited.  It just depends on the day and your personal preferences as to which one is best.

A lot has changed there in 15+ years, and for the better.  I have even noticed a difference in the last 4-5 years where it has stepped up even more.  Current owners took over from his parents in 2007-8-ish.   They started doing a lot of live music in their backyard area which I think has helped bring in some money for upgrades.   Miller's down the street has also caused them to step up their game or be left in the dust, which they were for a while.   They have changed their menu to have a bit more Tex-Mex influence to several items, upgraded to prime brisket, and all sides are homemade (spicy beans and street corn are great) instead of just opening a bucket of beans from Sysco and heating it up. Sopapilla cheesecake and tres leche are damn good desserts. They hired someone that is pretty dang good at running the pits and puts a lot of work into it.  It is slightly more expensive than Miller's, but you also get to avoid the line at Miller's and not be drowned out in all the noise.  Schoepf's is also opening a location in Georgetown soon.

Now that I think about it, I think Bill "Sausage Sensei" Dumas is doing things with Schoepf's.

how do we feel about tuna helper?   growing up I may have enjoyed tuna helper night more than hamburger helper night.

I'd like to see that.  Georgetown is a barbecue desert - even the bad places have closed.  Currently the best barbecue in Georgetown is probably True Texas Barbecue at HEB.

I have been trying once every few months but their posted hours are tough for me to hit (Wednesday and Thursday lunch only).   The couple of times I thought I had it lined up they were on a catering gig or a vacation or something.

Same.  I've wanted to give them a try since 2023, but it's almost impossible with their schedule.  I sampled their barbecue at the Troubadour Festival a few years back, but that doesn't really count.

Brix BBQ in Fort Worth is closing on 8/17

Sounds like he’s tired of the grind of the barbecue biz and now has a family to enjoy.  It’s a hard segment to make profit it regardless of volume.  It ran Derek Allen and his hot wife out of the biz, and the Heims sold out.  The Heims are moving to a simpler concept that should be more profitable:  pizza and booze.

I had a buddy that had a couple of simple Simon pizza stores a few years ago. All pick up business.  He’d do specials on Tuesdays and wednesdays of a large pepperoni for $5.  His cost all in was like 86 cents.  I’m sure the math is slightly different but it’s still a no brainer category.

I'm convinced I caught 2M on an off day. Brisket was dry AF when I went there for lunch a a few weeks ago. Waited about 40 mins in line and was stoked when I finally got to sit down and see what the hype was about. I had a sad.

I'll give them another go soon bc I know that what I got wasn't even close to what I've heard they can do.

I've been to 2M three times, albeit between 2017-2020, all great.  I've been to Reese Bros. twice, both times overall better than 2M.

I’ve only done 2M once and Reese twice. Reese I thought was overall better but that brisket at 2M was the best I’ve had in San Antonio.

Any opinions on Parish BBQ off Manor near KG BBQ? I've heard it's very good.

I keep hearing it’s great but have yet to go… that WILL happen this month.

I've been twice.  Once on opening weekend and once about a month later.  The concept of Cajun influenced barbecue is good and Holden is a seasoned pit master, having spent years at InterStellar.  I definitely recommend it.  If its available, the crawfish dressing is a must.
