pro-tip - save room for dessert at Kolache Kitchen two doors down, and then load up your pantry at Emporium Spice Co. next door.   but Pustka will be moving to a brick and mortar location pretty soon in Temple

Going to be in Austin this weekend.  Need some recs; where is a couple go to BBQ places?  I do not want to stand in line for more than 30 minutes (yes I'm high maintenance these days) I usually go to Stiles Swith or Micklewaith (when they had the trailer) we are staying near the capitol but we do have a car to drive around.   Just looking for some suggestions.

Buddy of mine went to Pecan Lodge against my recommendations and holy shit BBQ prices are out of control. They're charging $155 for the trough (their version of a sampler platter) that feeds 4-5 people. Used to be $75. Their desserts are $8 and the cookies are $4. Used to be $3.75 and the cookies $1. What the fuck!

Moreno's, but call first as they're moving to a new location and may be closed.

Brown's on South Lamar for pork ribs.

Green Mesquite for Chicken Wings, icy cold Shiner Bock/Fire Eagle Pale Ale, and the best urban beer garden in Austin.

If you're up for a drive, Opie's on 71 and get the butter beans

Also, BOOMER!

Went to LaVaca in Victoria in June and was very underwhelmed.  It was decent, but nothing to write home about.

I agree........but..........someone is paying it or they couldn't charge that amount.  A lot of folks have definitely been priced out.

You can still go to micklethwaite and get your food in under thirty minutes. I went there for Father's Day and it was probably twenty minutes or so. As other posters mentioned, Mum's and Brown's are both great. Mums for pastrami and brisket and Brown's for ribs, sausage, and poultry. Both are better than stiles switch in my opinion.

Old spot on Menchaca is going to be their burger location.  New spot at Southpark Meadows soft opening tomorrow.

I saw Phish there in 1997, 1998, and 1999.  Just an absolute party from the moment we started tailgating until the cops forced us to leave after the shows.

Like, sportsbars?  The various Pluckers locations are all situated decently with TVs and such.  Pretty uninspiring tap lists sadly.

The Tavern.  It's air conditioned.

Good news. Cooper's is no longer charging $33/lb for chopped beef. It's now $35.

Good call. Ended up stopping at Lavaca in PL. Just got the classic 2 meat plate. Brisket was top notch. Big Red ribs also good, but just a tad too sweet for my taste. Jalapeno cream corn was the best of the sides we ordered.

Place is tiny, but we got there at the perfect time. One group of refinery workers were just finishing up and leaving and another group of 15+ came in right after we ordered. They were still in line ordering when we were pulling out of the parking lot.

No pics, but had Franklin today; got there at 12:15, maybe 20 minutes of waiting in line.

Well let the hate flow from you but we had:

1. Stiles Switch on Saturday on our way into town; still for me I find it very consistent and I was happy.  I still love the sides. Brussels sprouts, corn casserole and tater tot casserole.

2. Sunday afternoon my brother had made up his mind we were going to Salt Lick (it had been YEARS since we were there) the experience was good in my opinion (food was average) but I still think the experience out there sitting under the trees eating BBQ is pretty cool.

3. For dinner before we went to the Moody Amphitheatre we had Texas Chili Parlor (wasn't super hungry) but had a bowl of chili with saltines and was pretty happy.

salt lick is great for non bbq snobs, good food and great atmosphere

Stiles Switch is very good.  Cedar Park location is better and more consistent than North Lamar.  I'll be eating lunch there in approximately 30 minutes.

I might stop for some good bbq, and take it out to eat under their trees.

No shit.

No pics as I just stopped in for a snack today, but Parish slaps… pimento grits were choice and the jalapeño popper boudin sent me.

Will def be back for a full plate soon!

Recently had the misfortune of going to the OG Salt Lick (not by choice) for a family gathering. I hadn't been in well over ten years, and it managed to be much, much worse than I remembered. Just terrible overcooked, tasteless, bland bbq. Even my 12 year old son remarked that "this bbq sucks dad." Oh indeed.  Rudy's is way better and that's not saying a whole lot.

Parish leftovers were fire.

To be clear, this brisket needs ZERO sauce, but they’re so good that I do enjoy dipping the bread as a chaser.

How much does the all you can eat cost at Salt Lick now?  I haven’t been since…2002 when I was in college?

Looks like Miguel Vidal of Valentina's fame and infamy is going to be the pitmaster at Churchrow Tejas Barbecue at 1521 W. Anderson Lane (location of the short-lived Black Gold).  It'll be owned and ran by the guy that owns Taco Flats on Burnet so staff will presumably be paid.  Sounds like it'll be very similar to Valentina's offerings.

Have any of you been to DB's ("Rustic Iron") BBQ in Terlingua?  We were in the area Friday night and passed, and now I'm hearing hints that it's actually good, dammit.
