The brisket up at Wm Cannon WFs is better.

Yep, I said it.

You don't go there for the brisket.  They may have the best tacos in Austin.

I get that and I do love their tacos.  I've had people, mind you not here on Surly, espouse to me that Valentina's is the best Q in all of Austin.  They didn't say "tacos", they said Q.

I was kind of thinking of that when I made the comment.

I wish they would recognize that and up production. Went by there Saturday at 10:45 specifically for a Real Deal Holyfield and there was somebody in line holding the “last breakfast order” flag. I was sad...

Also let him know about the sodium and how your last trip was not good. I mean - if you are going to let him know what people think, might as well be honest so he can fix it.

I wasn’t really sure where to put this. Just had a good cook off. We always do well on ribs and brisket, but are average on chicken. These judges are old Germans, so very Texas BBQ- pepper brisket, salty ribs, and sweet chicken. Anybody have a good chicken recipe?

I’m gonna respectfully disagree that one does not go to Valentina’s for the brisket. I have been a few times and the brisket was excellent, as good as I have had at any of the supposed top joints.

What’s Wm Cannon WFs?

William Cannon Whole Foods.

Could be one of those good day/bad day things.

I've only been twice, but both times the brisket was just ok.

Maybe I just doubled up on bad luck.

I still need to get over to Whitfields.

Anybody tried Studdard's Q yet?

Drove past a 45 minute line at Valentina's today on the way to Whitfield's BBQ. Was not disappointed. Brisket was perfectly cooked and the quality that people wait in line for. Jalapeno cheese sausage and turkey were very good as well. The pitmaster (previously with Valentina's and Stiles Switch) was working the order window and Kasey Studdard (previously kicking ass in the Rose Bowl) was slicing meat.1a2d1c53f2ce0a236f4abf7554f59307.jpg

Wife and I went before the ISU game and it was great. Best cue south of 290 imo

Texas BBQ News Related.  Rick Schmidt of Kreuz Market has passed away.  Roy Perez, their pitmaster, mentioned it on facebook.

Stopped by Hays County on my way to SA. Everything was good. Sausage was really good.

Aww man, you missed out on the hatch mac and cheese. It's fantastic.

They talked me into the green beans. Next time. That BP casserole was tits though.

I am not a fan. I know the love and maybe was an off day but thought it was very average. Plan to revisit but don't understand the love of this place. I don't agree with the ranking of this place.

yes, motherfucker yes.  I’ve been saying this for years.  that place is overrated cat shit.

Apologize for no pics, but I had lunch at Stanley's for the first time in a while.  Ribs still were solid, but the brisket seemed to be much improved (and it was very good before).

Sides:  Tater salad still is my favorite, slaw seemed improved, beans were off the charts better.

They have been tampering, and it's good.

You serious Clark?

Semi-Trivial Things that Make me Surly: Paying $17 for a 2-meat plate at Micklethwait and getting 1 slice of Brisket and 1 slice of Pork Shoulder with two sides scooped into to-go cups the size of which most restaurants would use for ketchup. I've been there before, and was pleased the first time, but yesterday was disappointing.

Odd way to tell us you’re a rube who doesn’t order by the lb. Amateur.

Ahhhh....hello Modesty.

And also....Cajun ain’t wrong about WF cue. Is it life-changing? For us, no. But it’s better than any cue we had in town 20 yrs ago, and it’s plenty good. I meet people at the downtown WF from time to time. Sometimes, I grab some cue, and I haven’t been disappointed yet.

overrating dogshit places is a win for true lovers of BBQ.

It's like when transplants or dumbasses say Whataburger sucks.  Ok, lineup for your shitass places and we folks who know what the good stuff is won't have to wait as long in line.

Cheap stoners need a taste of brisket every now and then too? I dunno.

Be interesting to see how a pizza topped with brisket is priced.  I'm guessing this isn't Snake River Farms quality

Cane Rosso up here in Dallas used to do a brisket pizza from time to time as a special and used Pecan Lodge brisket. The difference is Cane Rosso is arguably the best pizza to be had in Dallas; Papa John’s is shit. Just weird that Killen would attach his name to trash.

Oh shit now we're going to be talking about pizza and pickles in the bbq thread

I know, It'$ just $o weird that he would get involved with them. I ju$t can't figure out why.

pizza, pickles, and mushrooms.  the bbq trinity.

What places are overrated dogshit to you?

Found myself going through Llano for the first time in almost 20 years and stopped at Cooper's to see if it's still legit.

Yes, still legit. Brisket was good, sausage was good, the complimentary cowboy beans, bread, and homemade onions were nice and tasty. Want to go back when I'm in the area.

Dickies. Pappas. Spring Creek. Etc Etc etc.

Tylers BBQ in Amarillo is worthy of the top 50 ranking

people behind the counter were badass also... loaded me up way more than i paid for

No one overrates those. There's never any write ups about how great they are and never any lines. They're chains.

dickies can’t be overrated because it’s fucking awesome.  probably 2nd best in dallas behind pecan lodge.

well, also they are literally 0.2 miles away from each other - the Papa Johns is a weird move

Cane Rosso does the same thing in Fort Worth, with brisket from Heim BBQ. Might be called the Heimy Bastard.

Also, Swiss Pastry in Fort Worth will make a klobasnik with brisket from Heim.

Roast Social Kitchen, which is owned by the people who own Stanley's has a brisket topped pizza (using the brisket from Stanley's) called the Smokehouse.  Quite delicious.

Was driving back to Austin from SA today and finally stopped at Hays.  Damn, now I'm mad I hadn't stopped there before.  Had moist brisket, jalepeno cheddar sausage and the hatch chile mac and cheese.  It was legit, and I will be back

I didn't try the pickles

Played hookie yesterday after I took my daughter to the dentist so I figured since I hadn’t been to Tejas in awhile I should fix that. Barbacoa tacos, brisket and chili relleno sausage. Everything was delicious as always. Their chili relleno sausage is the best sausage ever.

That chili relleno sausage sounds damn good, that whole tray looks great.
