And how they used a different version of Way Down in the Hole by Tom Waits to open the show every season. And they waited until season 2 to use Waits’ version.

The songs selected by T Bone Burnett in the first season of True Detective were nothing short of brilliant. As it turned out that may have been the best part of the show. Because that ending SUCKED.  :)

was gonna post True Detective...

Bosch - jazz vinyl playing in the background with the LA skyline worked into almost every episode.

Bosch is the only opening credits I didn’t fast forward through. That Caught a Ghost song set the vibe perfectly.

I shazamed a lot of them. I have my own playlist now but also found this one:

How about Miami Vice. Maybe every week for the first couple of years. This one still rocks. Love the relfections of traffic lights on a black hood.

Raise you..... With or Without You in The Americans Finale.  The final train scene just wrecks.

Don't have it on one cut.

Beat me to it. I think about that one a lot. This was great too.

American Bandstand

Soul Train

Midnight Special

The show used 3 versions of the song, and this one is the best.  It's the "sharpest" of the 3, and the scene sets up Season 5's inevitable throwdown.

So many great ones from Scrubs, Derka already listed several.  That scene with Fray - How To Save a Life is just crushingly bitter and beautifully done.

I always loved this one, too:

This is some montage instead of the actual scene but yeah, this is always my answer when this comes up.

Two Cathedrals is just all around the best hour of television ever made.

Several from Scrubs immediately jumped to mind and have already been posted.

This one is also outstanding from the final scene of Generation Kill. Perfect song and perfect last scene for the series, with Trombley the only one left at the end and picking up his Saw and walking out.

Marty Robbins’ “El Paso” in Breaking Bad series finale (episode appropriately titled as “Felina”).

two great ones from west wing have already been mentioned (the s2 and s3 finales), but i'll throw this in the ring for an honorable mention - the s4 premiere:

i don't like mondays.

And then she blew off attending an academic summit at Michigan to go on Dead tour. I love her.

The Wonder Years.

Every episode.  Yes, really.

A big fan of how the Sopranos segued to the end credits with a song that summed up the episode.. one of my favorites.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Watchmen S1E5 had several great versions of Careless Whisper mixed throughout.

The Leftovers has many incredible music moments, not to mention the powerful theme music that was used at critical points. If I had to pick one though, it would be Kevin singing Homeward Bound in the S2 finale.

Sopranos opening.  Justified opening.

the music throughout Sabrina the teenage witch on Netflix was good.

I've thought the use of music in Peaky Blinders was about the best I've seen.

Looking for clips now.

Agreed.  The way Red Right Hand was played differently to match the tone for and played over the opening scene was great.

They have used the original version by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds as well as versions from Artic Monkeys, PJ Harvey and Laura Marling, and Iggy Pop and Jarvis Cocker.

I really want to see them use this version:
