October 18, 20214 yr Glad to see Zavalas, Hurtado, and Panther City make the list. Sad to see 4Ts, Smoke Sessions, Brix not on the list. Pecan Lodge and Heim both dropped finally.

I live very very close to Interstellar and it's been a mainstay for me ever since they switched from Noble Pig. Also, RIP that small parking lot and every other place in that strip center trying to have any business.
October 18, 20214 yr Well, not much in that list that I would argue. At least for the places I have been to. The only glaring mistake in my opinion is keeping Baker Boys on it. I didn’t think that place was good. Instead, could have put Wade’s BBQ in Lufkin in their place. Very happy to see 1701, Burnt Bean and Butter’s make the list. Well deserved. I just scanned the list and not much of the article, is there going to be another stamp/giveaway thing this time around?
October 18, 20214 yr Thought there was a chance a place from Wichita Falls might make the list but they just missed, should be in the honorable mention list.

October 18, 20214 yr Top 10: 10. Panther City 9. Snows 8. Evie Mae's 7. Franklin 6. Cattleack 5. Leroy and Lewis 4. Burnt Bean 3. Truth (Houston) 2. Interstellar 1. Goldees couldn't happier for the Goldees dudes their text: Quote Last year a few young pitmasters joined forces to take an abandoned building on the southeast side of Fort Worth and create their ideal of a modern barbecue joint. Though they lacked the decades of experience typical of many top-flight cooks, this band of barbecue wunderkinder had worked at some of the best joints in Texas (Franklin, La Barbecue, Micklethwait, Valentina’s). But just after opening, in February 2020, the dining room was forced to shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic. Goldee’s barely hung on as a take-out operation until this April, when it fully reopened. (When we recently joked to Jonny White that they should be selling more than fifteen briskets a day—compared with the hundred or so at Franklin—he replied, “It’s better than the four a day we were selling last May.”) So, what shot this modest joint into our top spot? Simply put, food that’s close to perfection. During repeated visits, we searched for weaknesses and inconsistencies, only to find, again and again, the state’s best spareribs and spectacular sausage and brisket. While many places have come to rely on the common crutches of excess—too much salt on the brisket, too much sugar on the ribs—Goldee’s demonstrates a confident restraint that belies the pitmasters’ youth. They trust the meat and the smoke more than an arsenal of seasonings. That attention doesn’t waver when it comes to sides, especially the peppery cheese grits and the mustard-heavy pork hash. And then there are culinary surprises such as Nupohn Inthanousay’s Laotian sausage: take a chunk, mash it into a bit of sticky rice, and dunk the combo into the spicy-sour jeow som sauce. Your eyes will open wide as you gaze at the new horizons of Texas barbecue.

October 18, 20214 yr I like the list - really gives credit for those places going above and beyond the Texas trinity. So happy to see Cooper's off and no issues with any of the other that were dropped. I have a soft spot for Kreutz as it was one of the first real Texas barbecue joints I went to when I was a kid, but they have fallen way off. Burnt Bean is the only one of the top ten I haven't been to and I'm kicking myself for not going last Sunday which I had planned to do. Twenty-five new places for me to check out - time for a few road trips!

From what I've been reading here over the last several years, a lot of places that had fallen off or had no business being on the last list but for the name or sacred cow status are now not on the list or have fallen down a few notches. That said, I was surprised to see Franklin's drop from 2 to 7. But a lot of the places in the top 10 are places whose praises I've seen sung on here for a while. And the fact that there wasn't even honorable mention for Cooper's seems spot on with what I tasted the last time I was there and what pretty much everyone else on here has been saying for a while. Same goes for several joints on the old list that didn't make this one. It didn't strike me as bizarre or inconsistent.
