the Catholic church teaches that one must follow his conscience even when it isn't the church teaching or is just plain wrong.

So Catholicism is going with your gut and whatever you feel is right, regardless of evidence to the contrary? God damn that's convenient.

No you have to examine your 'gut' and shape your conscience in light of the church teaching.

I’m pretty sure that’s religion in a nut shell regardless of denomination

I don't feel like doing something so it must be god telling me not to.

Wonder how many wives are willing to buy that one?

Great but there is no religious exemption for your mildly Catholic gut. Doctrine and church teaching aren't merely peripheral considerations in that context.

Papal infallibility out front shoulda told you.

Isn’t that cafeteria Catholicism? Pick the things you like, ignore the ones you don’t?

Pretty much all religions in a nut shell. At least how most practice anyway.

I don't think all of them have a 1000+ year old church court that cites canon law just like the USA courts do.  The Coach would argue it is against his conscience to take the vaccine and his religion mandates him to follow it.  The other side could then refer to the doctrine of examination of conscience and ask Coach if he met with his pastor, researched the official position, can explain why his conscience diverges from the church etc etc.

It comes up with conscientious objectors in the military a bit.  I suspect that many assumed at first glance that their conscience was a Get Out of Afghanistan Free card.

There really is something hypocritically admirable about the Catholic Church's eventual default argument of, "Well, we've just been around a long time."

Longevity by deceit works for individuals like Bernie Madoff.  It works for regimes like National Socialism.  And it works for grand institutions like the Catholic Church.

And what I said still pertains to your 1000 year old church court which history has shown time and time again does what it wants to benefit itself.  Nothing more.  AND it only applies to those coo coo enough to follow it. Antiquated religion is antiquated.

To tie it to football this coach is soon going to find out his 1000 year old court religious cult isn’t going to do a damn thing for him because it shouldn’t.  That shit don’t fly in the real world.

Exactly.   If your conscious says hate gays and weirdos and libtards. (Basically anyone different then you ) The church is good with it and you should shave a religious exception.

Really?  I thought age old intuitions did what they could to harm itself.  Meanwhile your new secular progressive religion, strangely popular on surly, has caught a fervor trying to force needles into people that don't want one.  Taking extreme measures to make people hate you in the name of a tiny public health rite.  Bold strategy Cotton.

The new secular progressive religion of liberalism? Strange you find the popularity of the foundational principles of this nation to be strange. Maybe you just run with a different crowd. And please show me where someone was forced to take the needle. A mandate for employment/participation is not forcing anyone to take the shot, as Coach Nick has demonstrated. This land of liberalism allows you to reject the mandate without any government boogeyman knocking on the door with a dripping syringe. You are free to make your choice. But your choices come with consequences. That’s a fact of life. A consequence of your actions is unavoidable, no matter how much folks might not like the reality.

Coach Nick took a job with the State with clearly defined requirements. This came to include mandating that continued employment would require taking a safe and effective vaccine for a worldwide pandemic. As allowed under the terms of the contract he signed. He knew the consequences of his actions. Now he and his ambulance chaser are crying foul when confronted with the inevitable and known consequence. That’s not religious conviction, it’s not a credible medical fear, it’s the reaction of a man that has the mentality of a child. He fucked around, he found out. All because he became warped by social media and believed himself smarter than he was. Read the ESPN piece, this was nothing more than a too cute jackass who has provided inconsistent excuses and refused to accept any of the facts given to him by an administration bending over backwards to address his concerns. None of the facts mattered to Coach Nick and now he’s proven just how much he really believes in sacrifice for the team. He led four of his underlings to be unemployed and a team of young men he was charged with helping usher into adulthood to try and figure out why he put himself before the team and their goals.

This is not a man who should be championed for the courage of his convictions. He is a man that should be ridiculed for failing a simple life test and failing those that depended on him to do the right thing.

Inside Nick Rolovich's downfall at Washington State over the COVID-19 vaccine (espn.com)

Quote

Palmer completed a postdoctoral fellowship in vaccine immunology, leads disease control programs in Africa and Latin America and has been heavily involved in WSU's COVID-19 testing program and vaccine rollout. He is considered one of the foremost experts on vaccines in the state of Washington.

Over about an hour, Rolovich drove a conversation that focused on topics that were consistent with what Palmer said has been shared by the "anti-vax crowd on social media" over the past several years.

"Kind of typical ones: Is Bill Gates involved with the vaccines? Does [Gates] hold a patent on the vaccines?" Palmer recalled to ESPN. "He asked whether SV40 is in the vaccines and whether that could be a dangerous thing. And the answer to that is no."

Is Bill Gates part of his religious exemption?

Catholic schools have had vaccine mandates like other schools since we started killing things off like smallpox and polio. I wonder what's different these days? 🤔

Good point. It's important to remind people that Western Liberal Democracies were born in Liberalism after being conceived in the Enlightenment. This is our nation's foundation.

I say this because the American Right has embraced illiberal conservativism which is antithetical to the philosophy that guided the Founding Father's. It is their ideology that is a recent foreign intruder in American thought not the principles that guided Jefferson, Franklin, Paine, etc..

Not being banned doesn’t mean you have to post

Guess you aren't grounded from the internet by mom anymore. Welcome back!

Imagine taking nearly five months to come up with a triumphant return post and that's the result.

This is what I don't get about this entire rationale. Never in the history of ever has anyone been asked about the risk of getting HIV or herpes or anything after unprotected sex and uttered the words "Nah I'm going to let my natural immunity take hold or I've been eating right and exercising" in response to questions about the risk of getting a mutherfucking viral infection.

I'm no doctor, but i don't think living and eating healthy can help you from getting AIDS or herpes.

Except if your conscience is to join freemasonry, because then you’re gonna get excommunicated if you believe in enlightened democracy over monarchy and theocracy! Sin! Sin! Sin!

It may cure covaids, but it doesn’t cure Down’s syndrome.
