I have seen most of the classics, but very few since 2000, and there seems to have been a renaissance in that period of horror Felix.  Want to watch something I haven’t seen before.  Recs?

Second half of the '21 Texas-OU game.  That was a bad horror movie . . .

There’s a Halloween movie thread on here somewhere. I don’t remember which poster ranked his top 30 horror movies

Get Out
A Quiet Place
Us
Ready or Not
Annihilation
Invisible Man
Midsommar
Hereditary
The Witch

I love looking at these lists and finding the occasional film that I haven't yet seen.  Cue Last Train to Buzan.

A movie that I liked that I rarely see mentioned on this site (or others) ... Cabin in the Woods.  Holy cow that was a fun one to watch for the first time w/o knowing the plot.

Just watched The Conjuring.  Pretty freaky.

Did you watch it alone or with your husband? That was a pretty good movie but it wasn’t all that scary.

Feel the same way about the 2nd half of the ‘84 NSF between UK/GTown...   3-33...  Fuck!

Too much of a pussy these days with horror movies but Get Out was damn good.

Malignant is new and a pretty crazy horror movie. I think it’s on HBO.

Midnight Mass is a miniseries on Netflix and I thought it was really good.

Yeah Cabin in the Woods was great.

Just watch it - the less you know going in, the better.

My thoughts as well.  It was just really fun.  Reminds me of another humorous horror flick with a similar plot switch at the midpoint - From Dusk Til Dawn.  Halfway through, you're all, "What the hell just happened?"

I liked Sinister. But Sinister 2 sucked balls.

There are very few films of any genre I have enjoyed watching more that my first viewing of Cabin in the Woods.

The ones that really stand out to me are The Witch, Hereditary, and The Wailing

Has The Ring been called out yet ?  2002 release I think.  I thought it was great, and kept me on the edge of my seat.

That was a good one. The Grudge (2004) was also super freaky.

I guess I'm going to have to give The Wailing another chance.  Started it right after finishing and loving Busan.  Couldn't get past the first 15 mins.

I think both of those were masterful. Weren't they both from Japanese directors or adapted from Japanese screen plays ?

Separate directors, but I think both were remakes of Japanese films.

It Follows

Hereditary

Midsommar

Insidious 1 and 2

Conjuring 1 and 2

The Witch

It remake Chapters 1 and 2 (fuck off, I liked them).

Drag Me To Hell

Those are my favorites.  There are a lot more that I still like that are a tier or two below such as...

Evil Dead remake

Ouiji sequel

Along Came The Devil

Veronica

Other Conjuring universe films

The Grudge to me changed the tied down genre. I did not finish it it freaked me out to much. Damn thing still tapped me on the shoulder last night. I have nightmares when stressed out and that Baylor game screwed me up.

I’m a Stephen King fanboy, so I loved It (but still haven’t seen Chapter 2). Don’t know why you needed the “fuck off” disclaimer.

Can't remember if it was this board or another I post on but people seemed to be very mixed on it with some preferring the original Tim Curry version.

I thought the new ones were pretty awesome, especially Chapter 1.  I saw both in theaters twice.

Maybe. Tim Curry’s Pennywise gave me nightmares when the TV movie came out, but the reboot was so much better.

Fuck that movie.  There was one point I jumped and screamed . . . in a damn movie theater.  My wife will never let me live that down - nor should she.

I didn’t know you were a lesbian.

IT chapter two was fucking terrible

  • 11 months later...

Its about that time again...been on the horror/suspense movies this month

I finally saw The Witch. that thing was creepy.... not hereditary and midsommer creepy.. but close..

the mom gave me the hebby jeebies.

Anyone got any recs since Nov 2021?

Longhorn Rewind with Charlie Strong/Tom Herman.

it's not the best, but i don't think it's been mentioned - the house of the devil (2009) is pretty suspenseful.

Terrifier 2 is absolutely wonderful! Art the Clown will be the next horror movie icon.

Just saw this movie for the first time and it is worth the watch, especially if you have tweens or younger:

It’s the season for scary movies, so I watched “Under the Shadow” on Netflix tonight. It’s Iranian and set in the Iran/Iraq war. Very, very well done. Some genuinely spooky/scary parts. It’s about a woman and her daughter that are haunted by djinn as their high-rise apartment is shelled by Iraq. I recommend it.

I burst out laughing at this description. How the hell do you pitch that to a production company??

Yeah. Not your typical premise, even for a horror film. It's definitely not "main strea" - more of an indie/art-house movie. But it's pretty good if you can deal with subtitles.

Many of my favorite horror/thriller films that have come out in the last 10-15 years have been foreign - the Wailing, Train to Busan, Let the Right One In, etc
