Apparently Texas views Juan Davis as a pure ATH take.

where else other than wr/h?  any defense?

I just do not see it with Davis. At least this far out taking his commitment. He is a total project and the kind of guy we should be able to circle back on.

You can watch his camp video and easily conclude he isn’t going to play WR at Texas. For those of you throwing out LJH comparisons I’m as likely to replace LJH as this guy is.  He so awkwardly runs routes he trips over his own feet every third or fourth time. The only position he is going to be able to legitimately play is tight end once he is done growing and there is absolutely no film of him playing his likely position.

What did Texas coaches see to take him now in a class where spots are already filling up?

I agree. Especially with Lake McRee in the class already we did not need to reach for him. Very confused on the take.

What if his hands make fly paper look slippery?

and herman’s offense wants multiple TE.  if we don’t take anyone in 2020 I hope mcree and davis are great players.

Mike Roach notes

—2021 Texas commit Lake McRee said he had a great time getting to know his fellow commits Hayden Conner, Jalen Milroe, and Juan Davis during the camp. McRee said he was very impressed with the way Milroe throws the ball, and he’s happy to have his decision behind him. McRee said he knew that he wanted to be at Texas his entire life, and now he’s focused on football and recruiting others to join him.

—2021 Texas commit Hayden Conner was on campus for the first time since making his decision. He said that it feels kind of weird to have everything behind him, but he’s glad it’s over and happy with the decision. Conner said that the aerospace engineering program at Texas was far and away the difference maker in his decision, and he loved getting the opportunity to work with Texas offensive line coach Herb Hand to improve his versatility. Conner wants to learn all five positions on the line so he can help the team in whatever way is needed.

—2021 four-star Dallas Kimball cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem made his first visit to Texas. Ibraheem got to take a otur and met with the coaches. He said he was very impressed with Texas cornerbacks coach Jason Washington, and he’s aware of the Dallas to Austin movement. Ibraheem went to middle school with Texas commit Quay Davis, and he said the other commits have been recruiting him hard. Ibraheem won the fastest man competition during the camp.

—2021 four-star Kennedale safety JD Coffey made another visit to Texas with his mother. Coffey is a prospect that’s extremely high on Texas, but he’s decided to push his timeline back a little. Instead of making a commitment during the season, he will probably decide early next year. Texas has the power position in the recruitment, and if they continue with what they are doing they should find themselves in position to land him.

—2021 four-star Denton Ryan ATH Billy Bowman was one of the prospects that Hayden Conner mentioned as a target for recruitment. Bowman said he loved the coaching he got at the camp from Drew Mehringer, Craig Naivar, and Todd Orlando. Bowman can play defensive back or wide receiver, and he said he’s planning to return for the LSU game with his teammate Ja’Tavion Sanders. Bowman is looking to drop a top schools list after the season, but Texas is right at the top for him.

—2021 Everman ATH Juan Davis made his commitment official after the camp last night. Davis said he was blown away by the love Texas showed him, and they compared his skillset to Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Davis said his focus is now on improving his skills on the field and keeping up with his grades.

—2021 wide receiver Theodore Knox just transferred to The Woodlands from Louisiana. This was his first visit to Texas, and he earned an offer with his performance at the camp. Knox has the chance to be the fastest prospect in the state for his class, and he was blown away by how much he loved Texas. It’s early, but the Longhorns made an impression on him.

He’s not going to lineup at receiver so it’s a projection to tight end based on his hands and eventual height/weight combo. Sure, he has some obvious ball skills but the rest is a long term project.

I have some complaints about Herman and co, but one of them is not a pattern of lazy or inept evaluations. I’m interested to see how these early TE (/ATH) takes end up fitting in.

There is film of him playing TE.  Everman plays an old school I-formation offense and lines him up with a hand on the ground plenty.

If he's a long term project I'm fine with him playing as a redshirt Jr or senior. Depth is a great thing to have. We don't need 4 year starters anymore Mensa is building depth.

He has D1 athleticism and can likely play multiple positions. It’s not hard to figure out why he’s a take.

Idk what you’re talking about re camps but if you watch his hudl, he has elite athleticism. He’s raw, but one of the main technical points of route running is keeping your feet directly under you. He can learn shit like that, but other people can’t learn to be 6’4 with a frame to carry 245 lbs with his athleticism and hands.

Please, please let Burton state he’s the worst take of the class.

If he does get moved to "here's the ball please win us the game" aka QB for Everman, we'll certainly get to see how he is beyond just having flypaper hands.

Balance and coordination cannot be easily taught You cannot coach a guy to not stumble when he tries to break out of a cut because he is trying to move more quickly than his frame allows.

Just out of curiosity, what other positions do you see him playing since it’s so obvious to you he can play multiple positions.?

Either I have a different definition of "elite athleticism" than you have, or I watched the wrong junior szn hudl tape then.  There was not a single play in that hudl tape that said 'elite athlete' to me.  He looks like he could develop into a reliable jag D1 tight end and contribute on special teams.   There's nothing wrong with that.   Programs need those types too.

Well it'd have to be the wrong junior szn tape, since he'll be a junior this year and all. Unless you're from the future?

And if you are from the future it seems like that knowledge is wasted on sharing your views on Texas football recruits. I would be going all Biff and taking Vegas to the cleaners.

Derrick Harris Jr is on a quicker timeline. Could be early September. That would be a big one. Like Jalen he’s just a fantastic kid others will want to play with. Assuming they get him of course.

An early ringleader-type LB commit? Yes please.

Would be another great get, aggie is counting on him and have him as a Richardson/Leal/Jones/Wright/Demas type of priority...I've not yet read who his "uncle or advisor" is, if any.
