February 7, 20205 yr At the Star n Frisco, can anyone come in there and work out for a given price, or is Dez Bryant still part of the Cowboys?
February 8, 20205 yr What do they actually do at Camp Mabry? I mean, what goes on there on a typical day? How many people are working there / in and out every day? Are there people living on site? It’s such a huge tract of land and has lots of buildings, but I can’t really tell if it’s actually serving as a base of any real day to day operations, or if maybe it’s just there if it’s needed, or if it’s just some administration for state wide stuff, or, .... I don’t know. You can find general info on the web, but it doesn’t really answer the above questions.
February 9, 20205 yr Mostly Reserve elements nowadays. And the museum. The sheer amount of federal and state owned land off the tax rolls in the City of Austin bottles the fucking mind. Mabry could be shrunk down to half its current size and nobody would know anything about it, or mind in the slightest. It's not like it houses a lot of permanent residents, only a handful of full of folks live on the base and it's armory and motor pool could fit in a small parking garage. And then there's the State of Texas employees who feel that they need to drive alone each day and have a reserved parking space just blocks from downtown so they can move papers around their office which could just as easily be done out in Hutto, or Bastrop, or Leander, or Kyle. But nope, these fuckers get to work and play right near downtown because apparently the average citizen who visits the Capitol Complex once every decade needs them right away! My question---why do whatameals cost about the same amount as just the sandwich/fries? I thought the beverage was the high-margin part of the deal? I just drink the water in my car and order a burger and fries and it's like a twenty cent differential than just ordering the whole combo? I would think the beverage would be the big increasing factor on the ticket with the fries being the loss-leader? I don't get it.
April 10, 20205 yr So I paid my auto insurance in full for the year so I could get the discount benefit of that. My insurance company sent me an email that they want to give me some premium back because I'm not driving much so they want to help me out. Should I tell them to hold on to the money? Are they then going to charge me fees since I now I'd have a balance with them? What should I do?
April 10, 20205 yr I just got an email from USAA telling me that I would be getting a refund. I was told that it would be applied to my bill, so I would assume that’s how most insurance companies would handle it.

April 10, 20205 yr Okay. I read it more closely. It is a refund of premium that is 15% of two months. I paid in full so that $30 total goes into my account I ACH'd from. I guess if you are paying monthly, they deduct it from the monthly bill. There was language that they have to get approval from the state and also might be told to extend it another month. The end date is May 22nd. So April-May premiums to date. No late fees apply and they aren't canceling for non-payment nor charging late fees during the affected period.

At one time (maybe this is still the case in some places?) it was cheaper to order a McDonald's breakfast combo and throw away the coffee than to order the same sandwich and a hash brown.

Lone Star gets points for historical significance.

April 19, 20205 yr Lots of commie pinkos talk in’ shit about lone star. Are there better beers in Texas? Yes. Does it taste like cold piss? Yes. But it’s OUR cold piss. It’s the cold piss that helped Steven F Austin defeat the Mexicans at bunker Hill. It’s why Texas is the called the lone star state. If it wasn’t for that beer, we could have a shitty state motto like.. like ‘The Friendship state’ or something.
April 19, 20205 yr Pearl is older than LoneStar which is older than Shiner. Just saying. The Chilton or Ranch Water and possibly the margarita would likely be the state cocktail
April 19, 20205 yr Lone Star has been dead to me since they sold out. No beer owned by Pabst should have anything to do with Texas

April 24, 20205 yr Been decades since I went to a drive-in movie theater, and it was in a mild climate. We are going tomorrow evening to break up the SIP monotony. It's gonna be 85, not hot but certainly quite warm. Do you leave your car on during a movie and run the A/C or are you supposed to cut the power/exhaust and just roll all your windows down? I want the kids to be comfortable, and the theater operator very clearly stated on their website---you must remain in your vehicle, no sitting out on lawn chairs for the picture. So I dunno, what does one do at a texas drive-in in warm weather?

We also played outside nonstop so a little sweat wasn't a big deal if there wasn't a breeze. Not sure how the kids of today would handle it. Good luck. Also are they showing a double feature? That was my favorite part, a whole night of movies and then falling asleep on the ride home.

That was my favorite part, a whole night of movies and then falling asleep on the ride home. We played outside as well, but the theater specifically said three times on their email that once you pull into the theater, you're inside your car for the duration. I can respect that given the Covid situation. But do we prepare for running Car/AC situation or swampass? It's just a 75 minute running of "Trolls" so nothing too cumbersome. But it's 5:30p showtime, so could still be very balmy. I just honestly don't know whether to prepare for full-on everglades or run the truck whilst enjoying the picture show?
April 25, 20205 yr Gotcha, I meant that when we were kids, especially during the summer we were outside from sunup to sundown and were used to sweating our asses off, so a bit of stuffiness in the car wasn't a big deal. Totally understand that y'all will need to stay in the car for obvious reasons. That said a 530 start time might be fairly warm so I would plan on cranking the AC.

And they oriented it correctly as well. But yes, it's a kids' movie and no way in the world would I take my 5 and 1 year olds to a movie that started after dusk/8:30p. That's just way too late, they'd both lose their shit. So this place is doing a 5:30p animated movie on a screen that's supposed to work during daylight. My question was more about drive-in etiquette. Do you leave your car running with the AC on , or is the custom to kill the engine and roll the windows down so the aggregate of 30 engines on doesn't drown out the sound of the film (even with the little speaker on your window).???

They probably aren't using the speaker in the window. I haven't been to a drive in in over 30 years but even then you could use your am dial to pick up the audio. I would be shocked if they don't use that or something better. As far as the AC goes don't run your car the whole time. It's a serious breach of drive in etiquette. If you or your family can't last for 2 hours in 80 degree weather you should probably sit this one out.

The bolded sentence made me chuckle. ~~~~~ So what makes a third round NFL draft pick "notable"? ESPN's ticker is showing "notable third round draft picks" and is skipping numerous slots such that the 98th overall pick is shown by name, position, and college team, and then the next one shown is like #103. What about #99-102? Why don't those guys get their name on the ticker too? Seems like bullshit to me, but I don't know enough about how the draft works to understand why there might be a perfectly reasonable explanation.
April 28, 20205 yr What's the story behind photoshopping into pictures the four black dudes that look like they're attending a funeral? Also, what does "game over" in the Covid 19 thread mean? At first I thought it was "everybody dead", or some such thing, but now I don't think so...
