November 12, 20241 yr I see commercials for hair plug procedures. If have male pattern baldness and you fill in the bald spots up front won’t your hair just keep receding behind the plugs and leave you with an even weirder looking melon? Is it a continual chase just to keep up? If any of you run into McConaughey can you ask him what the process is?
November 14, 20241 yr Can somebody explain what this meme means to me? Assume that I have the intelligence of your nerdy, 12 year old nephew:

The context/message is generally "same as it ever was" or "it was always this way" or similar. Why this picture is associated with that sentiment is beyond me, however.

January 2Jan 2 OK, I have a continuation question in the meme theme: Has anyone ever come out with an official version of what he was actually saying? Surely this isn't it. And yes, I'm calling you Shirley.

Of course, he could be complaining about the Jews. He complains about a lot of things. Edited January 3Jan 3 by flatdawgs trying to remember any of the Portuguese I learned during Covid
January 3Jan 3 Not the great lip-reader, but that looks more like "yoo" than "zhoo" to me. Thanks for the tip.

The J = ZH sound is one reason somebody told me Portuguese sounded like a Russian trying to speak Spanish (to my partially trained ear that applies more to European Portuguese rather than Brazilian, due to the different cadence).

"Russian trying to speak Spanish" sounds about right. Doath thervethas friath por favore theenyore is my Thpanith go-to phrase.
January 18Jan 18 when a young person says "I lowkey think x" or "I lowkey feel like y" how is it different from "I think x" or "I feel like y"?

January 19Jan 19 5 hours ago, futureman said: when a young person says "I lowkey think x" or "I lowkey feel like y" how is it different from "I think x" or "I feel like y"? It’s a way to distance one’s self from their idea or feeling. Young people are afraid of consequences. And young people now are afraid of human interaction / rejection. So using the term ‘lowkey’ gives them the ability to express their opinion in what they feel is a safe way that allows them to retreat if they’re rebuffed. At least that’s my lowkey interpretation of the statement.
January 23Jan 23 Do countries with homogenous populations have the same rural/urban divide on political beliefs, where the rural areas tend to be more conservative, and the urban areas are more liberal? I have attributed a lot of those beliefs in the US to the fact that rural/urban correlates strongly to racially homogenous vs racially diverse. If that’s the case, then you might not see the same political preference divide in countries where there isn’t that a correlation.

January 29Jan 29 Whatever happened to generic products? Completely subsumed by store/knockoff brands? Edit: Here's what Chat GPT says: Generic products still exist in stores, but their branding and marketing have evolved significantly since the 1970s. In the past, generic products were often sold with plain packaging, as seen in the image, to emphasize low cost. Here's why the "generic" style has changed: Market Competition: Retailers realized that plain, unattractive packaging limited consumer appeal. Over time, they began introducing "private label" or "store brands" that offered better branding while maintaining lower prices than national brands. Consumer Preferences: Modern consumers tend to associate better packaging with quality. To stay competitive, retailers improved the design and appeal of generic products. Retailer Branding: Many supermarkets now use store brands (e.g., Great Value at Walmart or Kirkland Signature at Costco) as a way to differentiate themselves while still offering lower-cost alternatives. Perceived Value: Companies recognized that products with higher-quality packaging could be priced slightly higher, improving profitability while still being affordable compared to premium brands. Regulations and Labeling: Changes in labeling requirements led to more detailed and visually engaging designs for even budget-friendly products. While the plain-packaged "generic" look has largely disappeared, its spirit lives on in modern store-brand items that cater to budget-conscious shoppers. Edited January 29Jan 29 by nnm

February 1Feb 1 Same with this guy. Can't swing a dead cat without hitting his wide, omnipresent face. I guess he's Druski.
February 1Feb 1 Shane Gillis is a comedian. Think of him as like the dopey bro version of Bill Burr. Says controversial on the edge stuff but whereas Burr delivers with an urban anger and sharp attacking witty style Gillis is more chill and comes across as kind of dumb as he says shit (despite the fact he likely isn’t dumb given he spent a few weeks at West Point before deciding not for him) Got hired to be on SNL back pre covid but some old shit from a podcast was dug up and he got canceled by NBC against Lorne’s wishes before he ever appeared. Gave Saban shit on the pre Notre Dame-Indiana Gameday. He’s good sometimes. A beating at others. YOMV Edited February 1Feb 1 by Surly Bevo
February 1Feb 1 Oh I don't mind him. I think he's funny for the most part. Just weird how he went from an unknown to Uber famous in a short period of time without any real reason.
