For the hobbyists who like freshwater shrimp.  Can we change Amano shrimp to Amero shrimp? Think Trump would support this?

I thought "hobbyists" fucked whores.  They eat shrimp too?

When did the spelling of "whoa" change to "woah" - noticed it as an alternate for years, but now it seems to be the only one.

I'd blame Keanu, but I've seen John Wick.

Always thought the first was a direction (as in trying to stop a horse), while the second was a proclamation of surprise/bewilderment.

But you're right... The conflation is real.

Do people actually go to car dealers and get excited to buy dark gray cars? "Fuck red, blue, silver, black and white (and any other color like orange, yellow or purple). I really want that dark gray one"

Hell yes. Look at Space Grey on 07-13 BMWs, easily best color they come in. Shows the body lines so beautifully in any light.

Can I replace fluorescent bulbs with led bulbs without changing the balist?

They make LED bulbs that are ballast compatible, but you have to make sure that they are compatible with the type of ballast in your fixture.  The compatibility should be listed on the bulb package.  However it’s probably better in the long run to either bypass the ballast, or just replace the fixture

You can leave the fixtures in place and just bypass the ballast. Super, super easy rewiring on the appliance itself. I replaced all the fluorescents in my garage with these, and it was quick and easy, following their directions. No extra parts needed.

These are now out of stock, but I’m sure there are plenty of updated models. Get the right size. Pull one of your existing fluorescent bulbs and the size will be printed on it.

Texas is in a play in game with Xavier right?  But they are playing for an 11 seed correct?  Shouldn’t play in games be to see who gets 16 seed?

It SHOULD be that way. It’s really shitty than any auto qualifier has to play-in. They got the auto bid

when they first started play-in games, that is how it was.  maybe only lasted for a year or two.  they didn't like how winning a game gave you a reward of immediately getting slaughtered by north carolina or something, so they changed it.  mathematically, it makes sense for it to be 16, but the practical application left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Do nudist camps have commercials, and where would they air?

Let’s say I own a nudist destination and would like to expand my business. How do I lure more out of shape middle age people that should never be seen nude in public to come sit on towels around my Motel 6 level pool? Is it all done via print ads in naturist magazines like it’s still the 1950’s, or do they make video commercials? And if they do where do these commercials air? I’ve never stumbled across one while cruising the internet. FWIW it’s understood the world is a better place with me being clothed in public, it was just a thought that came to me after seeing a YouTube video of a nudist couple looking to buy a house on HGTV.

Ah. I see your point now. My guess is that those special-interest publications and web sites exist, and when one visits those web sites, or subscribes to the publications, one then starts receiving the targeted advertising.

I accidentally took a wrong turn onto a nude beach while jogging on Bygdøy peninsula outside of Oslo one day. It was awful. 80% old, fat dudes, the other 20% old, fat ladies. There is nothing titillating about a nude beach.

Now beaches in Spain, where ladies let their puppies get some sun?  That’s a different story. There is indeed some spectacular scenery there.  Although it’s liberally sprinkled with saggy baggys also. <Insert Ronwhitealrightgrandmarollthembackup.gif here>.

If the padded covers on football helmets that they use in practice make such a difference for safety, why don’t they wear them in regular games too?

total guesses off the top of my head:

reduced vision

too hot

too heavy

smooth is actually better (why bike helmets are smooth nowadays, not rough like they used to be).

come off during play

look stupid

TV can't see logos as well

still in testing phase

Chat GPT agrees with you.

Spoiler

Great question — and it's one that comes up a lot, especially with how visible those padded helmet covers (often called Guardian Caps) have become in practices.

Here’s the rundown on why they aren’t used in games, even though they help reduce head impact:

1. Aesthetic & Tradition

  • The NFL, college, and even high school football value a certain look during games. The Guardian Caps make helmets look bulkier and less sleek — which doesn't sit well with tradition, fans, or broadcasters.

  • Uniformity and branding are a big deal in pro and college football. Teams have custom-designed helmets with logos, finishes, and colors that wouldn’t show properly with a cap over them.

2. Rules & Regulations

  • The NFL and NCAA have strict equipment standards. Guardian Caps were only recently approved for practice, and while safety data is promising, getting rule changes approved for games takes time.

  • There’s also some hesitance to mandate gear that isn’t yet part of the standard helmet system, especially if it’s third-party.

3. Player Preferences

  • Players can be superstitious or particular about how their gear feels. Some argue the cap changes the helmet’s balance or airflow.

  • Others think it gives a false sense of security and might lead to more aggressive head-first tackling, not less.

4. Ongoing Research

  • While Guardian Caps do reduce impact during practices (by about 10–33% depending on the study), it’s still being studied how much benefit they’d give in full-speed game collisions.

  • The NFL is actively experimenting. In fact, for preseason in 2022 and 2023, offensive and defensive linemen, tight ends, and linebackers were required to wear them during early practices.

Bottom line: The caps help, but there's still resistance based on aesthetics, tradition, player comfort, and the slow pace of rule changes. But with more data and pressure for better safety, it's possible we will see them in games someday — or better-integrated helmets that offer the same protection without the extra bulk.

Would you like a quick graphic comparing standard helmets vs. padded ones?

I feel like it's all coded phrases if you want to air a commercial for a nudist resort

Words like natural, freedom, etc.

Clothing-optional beaches FTMFW.

There are few things that feel better than swimming nekkid.

about 40 miles north of me on I-15 is a nudist resort, "Glen Eden Sun Club".  It's  close to the freeway.  I've been driving by that sign along the freeway for 40 years, and I still giggle every time I see it.  Once, it had another sign just below it.  "Chili cook-off next Saturday".  Can you imagine standing around naked eating chili?
