I understand banning AR-15s won’t solve all the problems. I recognize that the gun nuts already have prepared paragraphs stating why this is a stupid move and there are equally deadly guns still out there.

The perception that guns are an ultra-powerful, ungovernable, mythical figure is at the core of many of the problems this country faces and banning AR-15s would be a sign (even a small one!) that guns are not untouchable. There’s a long road to fixing gun culture in the country, a road that can stop well short of an outright ban. But it has to start somewhere.

It would seem to me that every purchase of a new firearm puts more money in the hands of the gun manufacturers to lobby against any version of gun control in this country. Buying a gun, regardless of what gun or what you plan to use it for, is essentially supporting the status quo. We will continue to see massacres like this because people like their guns too much. Am I wrong in this logic?

Texas mall shooting updates: Domestic terrorism probed as possible motive

Quote

As authorities work to determine a motive for the outlet mall shooting in Allen, Texas, one avenue investigators are exploring is whether this was an act of domestic terrorism, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The shooter wore patches or stickers on his clothing that raised suspicion he may have gravitated toward right-wing extremism, the sources said, though they added no motive has yet been established.

Shocking, I know.

Abbott should be peeled like a pear.

Guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals and tougher sentences on that front? I wonder what the rate of armed robbers getting out of jail and going on an insane shooting spree is? I bet the rate among Trump and Abbott followers is higher. In short, irrelevant, Greggo.

This happens in blue states, too, with tougher gun laws? Do their laws prohibit AR-15s to be owned? Are the perpetrators persons who supported gun control legislation? Is there anything beyond moron sophistry in this assertion? No, there is not.

He is on his way to Allen to do everything in Texas' power to support the families; he says he's bringing hope.

I hope Beto is there and kicks over his fucking wheelchair. Then  I'd not object to the families to whom high-minded Greg Abbott is bringing hope stomp him to death on the ground. He's complicit in murder. We're a death penalty state. Just add the word summary, and it's all jake.

Sitting on a bench outside of a mall store. Enjoying the shade in a corner of the building. Maybe talking about going for ice cream or having a spat or just sitting quietly. Turns out it's a deathtrap.

Yep. If I owned a billboard, I’d put that photo, and others like it, right there on I-35, so nobody could avoid seeing the truth.

People should have to look at it. If a majority of the voting citizens of this state are going to vote for government officials that refuse to do anything about this, then people should at least have to look at the carnage we created.

If that’s too uncomfortable, or it leads to difficult conversations with young kids who also see it, then maybe people would make different choices about our elected officials.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is slated to speak at the NRA’s annual meeting, is the top recipient of political contributions from gun rights interests, drawing about $749,000 over his career.

Gun rights interests have also poured money into outside spending boosting Cruz. Of the more than $154,000 gun rights interests spent boosting Cruz since he was elected to Congress in 2012, about $122,000 was bankrolled by the NRA.

It’s telling that the first place she goes is to lock people up who haven’t done something yet. They’d like to lock up people more than lock up guns.

For clarity, I’d love to actually do something about the mental health crisis that plainly is sweeping  America as evidenced by how often we murder children and shove fentanyl in our bodies. It’s just that the argument presented by our asshole right-wingers is, well, a reductionist asshole argument.

They just want to lock people up. Having a robust health care system for everyone, including psychiatric treatment, is considered an intolerable assault on our liberties. Locking up the mentally ill instead of treating them early, and helping them integrate as much as possible? That’s freedom, baby!

I thought the same thing about Jordan Neely. No matter what happened that day, he shouldn’t have been homeless and confused and angry and mentally ill on a subway car.  Only a cruel society allows that to happen to our vulnerable. And maybe he wouldn’t have been, if we allowed poor people to go to doctors and he’d been under their care.

I posted it a while back, but for a long time, the NRA and gun industry considered the “black gun” culture weird, off-putting, and politically damaging.

But a couple things happened. First, the percentage of people who were real outdoorsmen or ranchers or sports shooters fell off a cliff. And they realized that there’s a lot more money to be made with the black gun nuts.

Serious hunters don’t really need that many guns and accessories. A good deer rifle, a duck gun, a dove gun, a varmint gun, and MAYBE a big game rifle for the truly committed. And you buy good ones and they last your whole life and then your grandkid gets your 30-30 and it lasts his whole life, too. Maybe you buy new optics once a decade or so. Sports shooters only need one good gun for each discipline they shoot. And gun “collectors” used to collect things that were, well, collectible. Historical weapons, expensive Italian and English jobs, etc.

“Collecting” tens of the same new, mass produced firearm in different builds would have been considered bizarre. All these black gun people, they have these elaborate and expensive builds that they will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever use aside from the range. Because they’re not really useful for much besides killing a lot of people. You know those guys who collect mall swords and throwing stars and shit, then “train” with it? Black gun culture is basically that, except the collector items are very, very deadly. And much more money flows to the manufacturer.

Allen Shooter’s parents apparently live walking distance from Bishop Lynch High School.

Solid history lesson here.  Here's the other factor.  Private Equity and Institutional/OCIO started looking for another way to exploit this very-American, but rather restrained profit center.  And so some folks smarter than me looked and thought, "You can only sell somebody a couple of American flags and framed photos of political heroes and whatnot and the margins on 'em suck."  So they looked up and down the Constitution and the Amendments.  You can't monetize most of our founding articles nor amendments.  Except booze really.  So about 30 years ago, they figured out that once you get all the hats and bumper stickers, your obvious next choice is firearms.  Not just a hunting rifle or home defense pisto/shotgun, but get you to buy a half-dozen semi-automatic rifles for no reason other than to validate your failed status in the American Political hierarchy.  I can wind up millions of Texans to take out a line of credit to buy another 3 guns they don't need tomorrow morning for the very simple reason, Freedom. And because I can.

The only answer to a bad hog going extinct is a fucking idiot Texas Guy with a gun.

Jesus Fucking Christ, are some of you out-of-shape has beens even fucking trying.  All that firepower and you guys let the feral hog population explode like that?  You're pussy ass is like the alien in "Independence Day" who has all the tools and technology and homecourt advantage and firepower and he's like, "Well, I suppose this message request to download this possibly dangerous file from something called an IBM sounds like a good idea."  You want us to let you arm yourself with military grade level firepower and you can't manage to take out a few dozen feral hogs?  I'm guessing you have a hard time shooting something that looks so much like your wife.

7 teens shot over the weekend in Houston. I feel like that’s low for Greg Abbott’s Texas. :/
