Yea that’s a real problem. You’re either behind Robinson and you let him fire and hire new staff, or you need to bring in someone new and let them make their own staff. This trying to find a new figurehead while keeping everything else in place doesn’t work for a lot of reasons.

If you try to just stick with Robinson and the rest of the current staff for a year or two while you make a better long term hire you may keep a few kids this year, but your next two recruiting classes are setup for failure when you do make the next HC hire making it that much harder for him to succeed. That may be the best scenario for them at this point if they can’t pull off the gamble on an Elko or Traylor.

Stoops>>>Traylor . Stoops is an experienced SEC coach. However trying to lock up Stoops means they have been turned down a lot.

Traylor is their automatic “school” choice and looking like he will be it. No way he turns them down to stay at UTSA or wait for the likes of Baylor or Cougar high.

I went to bed laughing at aggie for hiring Mark Stoops, then wake up and find out the shit show has only just begun? They've really outdone themselves here.
I stayed awake long enough to learn the Stoops thing was blown up by fan outrage and possibly screwed things up with Fisch. Totally worth the lost sleep

I still don’t understand this idea that aggy is flush with cash. Where is it coming from if true?

Glorious (and Bomani is a UT fan and has been critical of UT when we were in our shit years)

what the f ck is there to debate? gene stallings is in the college football hall of fame and he couldn't even win eight games at aTm. so maybe it's a seven-win school? is that the debate? https://t.co/7UnSHLJU0O

even bear bryant was an eight-win coach at aTm. because...IT'S AN EIGHT-WIN SCHOOL.

aTm isn't a top 5 job in the sec!!! https://t.co/KNeKcF1nof

okay, let's to to the 2024 sec. better jobs than aTm: georgia, florida, alabama, lsu, texas, oklahoma. throw tennessee in there, if you wanna make it fun, but there's no controversy in the first five. https://t.co/AtDwklL5wq

the window for that, if it truly existed, was before texas showed up to the sec. now? lol. okay buddy. keep telling yourselves that lie if you want.top 10 job is a school that hasn't played for a conference title, let alone won one, in 25 years. f ckin aggies, i swear. https://t.co/R2tVR32rtu

there were significant paradigmatic shifts at lsu and uga that simply don't apply to aTm. clemson is...i mean, maybe aTm can get deshaun watson and trevor lawrence.but "history is not predictive" is what people see when they want to lie to themselves. https://t.co/eVe23mVfrT

Aggy is requiring the HC to keep assistants because they can’t afford their buyouts.

It doesn't sound like they had any interest in Traylor. It's going to be Elko or Robinson.

Aranda has the look of a man that just figured out Waco is Stephen King’s version of Derry, Maine. Traylor won’t head there. Maybe UofH since in the past it’s been a stepping stone. But I wonder if schools looking to pull the trigger on firing their coach and making a hire before December 4th decided not to after seeing the fallout from this.

It’s aggy—they told potential candidates they had to keep Robinson. What coach wants to walk into a situation where he’s being told he has to keep certain members of the staff and not build his own staff, one who he is personally comfortable with and believes gives him the best chance to be successful?

It's truly amazing short-term thinking. And I think it's driven by their attaching infinite importance to the game with us next year. Having a shot in that game has become the organizing, if unconscious, principle of their coaching search -- keep the Best Recruiting Class Ever intact to take down sip.

In other words, aggy fails the marshmallow test.

It's definitely more than Robinson.

Liucci has been insinuating they want to keep the entire defensive staff for weeks.

aggy should sever all ties with Liucci and run him out of town with Bjork.
aggy can't quit Billy any more than he can quit them. The aggy masses have been pissed at Billy before, this too shall pass.

Luckily for aggy, there isn't one agent with a near monopoly on top tier coaches who knows first hand what went down between them and Stoops.

Someone on this thread made the case for Taylor to Cougar High that made sense.

He could clean up on the 2nd tier recruits and maybe snag a few top tier guys in the Houston and East Texas area and put together a pretty good team without having to worry about the Bull Shit at A&M.  He could pad his resume and his choices would be a lot better than they are now.

Baylor,  no.

We are their matchup nightmare. The only allegedly competent part of their team is the defensive line and Banks, Williams, Campbell, Hutson will be third-year players.

We were out of state when it happened, but upon returning and catching up on news, I recollect reading that one of their long time defensive coaches passed away. That may have added to their issues.

Well, with how things are going right now with Holgo and UH, this would very well be the case in the next 2 weeks.  Traylor aint jumping on the UH job while A&M could potentially throw a truck full of cash at him next week. Once the aggy foolishness is taken care of, then Traylor can back channel UH, so UH can dismiss Holgo and bring in Traylor within the hour.

Aggy does not have the money for a big time coach and the funny part is they are 1 reason why most of these coaches are making 9-10 mil bc they gave a stupid ridiculous contract to a 5-7 jimbo fisher at FSU.  Not not only do they need to pay Jimbo his 7 mil a year, they need another 8-10 mil to hire any decent power 5 coach.  They cannot even afford to buy out their assistants.  Aggy does not have unlimited resources.  Their NiL, facilities, and coaching hire will be hindered bc of this stupid contract.  What coach is going to sign up for this shit show knowing Bjork is lined up on the execution squad and will have a new AD that did not hire said potential candidate.  As much as Texas has fucked up coaching hire, this is a new level of dumpster fire.  Their donors and administration are fighting between themselves.  So happy Texas has climbed its way out of the same situation.  Aggy is going to be fucked for a solid 10 years.  Their entire roster is built on their D-line.  It took us damn near 2 decades to fix our OL issues.  They look to be just as bad and not sure how they plan to fix that without firing an OL coach like Flood and have NiL ready like we did.  I love the aggy misery.  Poor aggy bitches.  10 year head start in the SEC and we are about to beat that ass next year.

I agree money talks,  and Taylor would probably take the aggy job.

However, it seems like every time the coaches get fired the question is always who are we going to get to replace him?  If Traylor gets good recruits and wins at Cougar High he will be the answer to that question and be able to pick where he wants to go.

Nothing more glorious than being 11-1, going to the Big 12 champ game, while aggy is imploding and OU is sitting at home because their in-state little brother dashed their hopes with a big comeback last night to shatter their CCG dreams

Yep.  We just destroyed Tech by 50.  We gave the world a glimpse of our future QB1 (Arch fucking Manning).  We’re busy discussing  our possible paths to the college football playoff while on the cusp of winning the conference title.

Meanwhile, aggy is still recovering from being the laughingstock of college football because of that ridiculous contract they gave Jimbo and the money they owe him to not coach.  Now they’re on their fifth or sixth HC candidate (because no respectable coach wants to take that job), and they can’t agree on who that should be.  So they’re most likely gonna hire the interim coach who just got blasted by LSU.  They’re gonna go with a DC who has no previous head coaching experience to be the guy that leads them in the first year that Texas and OU join the SEC.

Just when you think aggy can’t out-aggy themselves, they come up with even more insane ways.

#63637

They won't have a choice but to name petrino as head corch with robinson as co-whatever.  Nobody is going to take that job after they bungled and humiliated themselves (again) and stoops.

#63638

If the rumors about bjork going rogue are true, that level of self sabotage must mean he is also tired of aggy’s shit and intentionally trying to get fired himself. For his sake (and ours lulz too) I really hope he has the same guaranteed buyout contract language as jimbo.
I also don’t see how any non-desperate coach takes a job with uncertainty at the AD role. What a giant glorious mess.

I said a few days ago but if you're forcing a HC to keep most of the staff you are already down like 3 tiers of coaches.

This has already reached Tennesse Schiano levels of hilarity, and Aggy is trapped in a real prisoners dilemma.

The soup of variables are lack of cash, potentially exiting AD due to the stoops situation , wanting to keep E Rob to keep players, and pressing timeliness for clearly all of this up for signing day while coaches are coming off the board or being turned off from this shit show.

IMO best remaining move is to promote E Rob , and learn from this for the inevitable search 2 years from now .

What Aggy will likely do is hire a mid coach , maybe Traylor if he's getting itchy or gets bad advise, doesn't matter. E Rob still leaves because he feels jilted, taking some of the defensive staff and players they wanted to keep in the first place. And then whatever mid coach having to hire a mid defensive staff .

No fun, but it would be in their best interest. TexAgs is a cancer for them.

There is no evidence that aggy has the institutional self-awareness to make the changes they really need to make in order to be successful at the level they think they should.

That is what makes them so easy to laugh at.

We are soooooo close to Ag Head Coach Bobby Petrino.

He fits the profile the need to fill. He was once good enough that they could get excited about the possibility of future success, no matter how unlikely. Has no viable alternatives so would take the job. It seems like a match made in heaven.
