I love how they're so hyped over June Recruiting rankings...

When they lose some dumb game in october and follow up with 2 more losses after that, and they lose some of these recruits, wonder what they'll say then?

Yeah no shit...that's why he clearly said their AP ranking at the beginning of the year...if you're unranked you can't be worse than that.

You think it will take that long to start losing recruits?

I’m skeptical they can hold out that long. Surely before that time, at least one of them gets pulled aside by someone in the know and steers them clear. Then again, for some of their class, that’s their “best” offer, which isn’t saying much.

Their logic in defending that is funny. Granted, they did finish ranked, but you’re spot on. Those years aren’t included in the scenario from the jump. Those years they weren’t ranked, which means the discussion of going from ranked preseason doesn’t apply.

The semantics they try to grasp can be quite the gymnastic routine. This one isn’t quite as bad, basic twist off the vault, but damn they just can’t help themselves from trying in any situation.

I love that one of their 3 greatest seasons they still lost to Texas when Ricky set his record.

They also lost that in the most aggy way possible where they had a comeback only to see Texas kick a late field goal and win.

Texas A&M athletics have often been the butt of jokes over the last decade or so, but it's hard to deny that they've been an extremely relevant athletic department during that time. The Aggies haven't always had the strongest finishes in football, but they're a team that is often in some of the biggest games in the college football landscape.

It's been the same with basketball, despite some dark times. I think of two games against the Alabama Crimson Tide that exemplify this reality: the football team's game against them in 2021, which was obviously a massive win over the then-number-one team and eventual national runner-up against the Georgia Bulldogs, and the basketball team's showdown against them the following spring.

That was the Aggies' first-ever win against a no. 2-ranked team in basketball, and they nearly pulled it off again in the SEC Tournament to win a conference championship. That was one of several chances that the Ags had in the tournament finals, as they made a lot of noise in Nashville in Buzz Williams' tenure.

Things are looking up for both programs right now with the departure of Buzz Williams and Jimbo Fisher and the advent of Mike Elko and Bucky McMillan. That said, moving up in estimation from those two eras could certainly put them in the front seat when it comes to the Lone Star State.

Win percentages tell story of past decade in Texas-A&M rivalry
The Aggies are two spots ahead of the Texas Longhorns in win percentage, combined between football and basketball over the past ten years. While they're not in the top echelon by any means, I think that this is notable given the recent hot streak that Texas has been on in football and the discourse around the two programs.

If things continue to point upwards for the Aggies as Texas comes down off of their recent high point, then this distance could grow even more. A&M needs to be better, but it's notable that they're in this position relative to a rival with the self-concept that Texas has.

We are drawing ever nearer to the 2025 SEC football season, and Aggie fans are hoping it will be a banner year for Texas A&M football. The Aggies have a chance to do something special this year, though it will come against a difficult schedule— A&M has the 10th-toughest slate in the country, per SP+.

The conference slate will be the same for the Aggies, but the home and road splits are swapped. Even with that change considered, though, it doesn't speak to the changes that each individual team will be undergoing from last year to this year.

So how will SEC programs look different next year? Who's arrow is pointing up, and who's arrow is pointing down? Let's take a look.

YADDA, YADDA... Up: LSU, Soused Caramelizer; Down: MSU, Tennessee

Oh Here We Go GIF by The Roku Channel

Trending up: Texas A&M
People around the nation are beginning to come around on just how packed with potential this season is for the Aggies. After positioning themselves for a berth in the SEC Championship this past year, A&M looks to be an even better squad in 2025, given the changes they have made.

That includes not only adding some under-discussed but elite hires in John Perry and Lyle Hemphill, but also the Aggies' work in the portal. TJ Searcy from Florida was massive, as was a guy like Julian Humphrey, but the true crowning achievement was snagging KC Concepcion from NC State.

Alleviating the issues at receiver will go a long way towards helping this offense in what will hopefully be a full year of Marcel Reed starts. The other thing that will help is an extremely senior and experienced offensive line, not to mention strong running back play from Le'Veon Moss, Rueben Owens, and more.

If the Aggie defense improves like we're used to seeing from Elko-coached units year over year, then this could be one of the most intimidating teams in the nation in 2025. The schedule is a bear, but the Aggies will be more than equal to the challenge.

Trending down: Texas
There's been a definite vibe shift around what's going on in Austin, which is surprising given some of the hype that's still coming from certain corners. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that there's an increased level of skepticism around Arch Manning now that we've all grown used to the concept of a quarterback with that last name, as well as the offensive line.

Replacing as many OL starters as the Horns are set to do is usually a great recipe for taking a step back in terms of results. Same goes for signal caller, of course, as well as defensive backs. The Longhorns are seeing a significant amount of turnover at all of those key positions.

The week one matchup against Ohio State in Columbus will be a heck of a measuring stick. Both teams will look quite different than the pair that matched up when Texas got bodied in the national semifinal last year, but breaking in all those new starters on the road in an environment like the Horseshoe against a team as talented as OSU is a tall task.

Add to that the back-to-back SEC road trip hurdle (though the games come against Kentucky and Mississippi State, possibly the two worst teams in the conference this year) and a game at Georgia, Texas could be a top-10 team this year and only end up with 9 wins. Given that I'm not sure they're even a top-10 team, 8 is not out of the question either.

Yesterday's massive commitment from KJ Edwards to Texas A&M football sent ripples throughout the entire nation's recruiting departments, but those ripples were apparently felt as shockwaves 90 miles to the west. The Aggies were not surprised that Edwards ended up committing to them, but after long months of predicting that the Longhorns would win out, Texas beat writers had some egg on their faces.

It's a hard thing when you end up making some bad predictions. Heaven knows I've been wrong more than once! But sometimes, you just need to sort of shrug and move on— that is a tough thing, however, for some people to do.

I guess when people pay to access your site because they believe you to be well-informed, and then they hold your feet to the fire when you called your shot wrong, you have a couple of different routes to take. Insulting a high schooler is not one I would personally choose, but the bravery of Justin Wells of InsideTexas to choose against what I believe to be common wisdom is on full display.

Texas beat writer calls KJ Edwards' A&M decision "irrational" after months of predicting he'd land with Longhorns
According to Wells, what swayed Edwards was not the allure of playing for the Maroon and White, nor close relationships with East Texas guys like Terry Bussey, nor even relationships with coaches. No, it was the purported "anti-Texas Rally" that took place over his official visit (as if that's what's on the Aggies' mind when hosting prospects) leading to a "reactionary" move.

This obviously slanted account led to some pretty funny comments from Aggie fans.

The funniest part is, according to KJ himself in an interview with Jason Howell of Texags, the fact that A&M was going to be his choice was something that he had in the back of his mind for the past two months. That means his decision was anything but reactionary or irrational— it wasn't spur of the moment at all.

It can be a tough thing to admit that your information or read on a situation was misguided.
