Texas A&M fans, as with most college football fans, have about had it with the obeisance and hagiography of Arch Manning by the national media. This is a guy that has had extremely limited snaps while sitting behind a seventh-round quarterback who is essentially, on the strength of his name along, getting Heisman hype.

All that would be enough to grate on the nerves of any fan, but the fact that it's the insufferable Texas fan base really does a number on the Aggie faithful. This offseason has seen eye roll after eye roll every time a puff piece is put out about the latest Manning.

Now, though, it looks like the Aggies will have to suffer through yet another year of the Longhorn quarterback getting every offseason accolade possible thanks to a breathless national media. Manning's much-more-accomplished grandfather, Archie Manning, indicated today that his grandson will return for a senior season in college football.

Texas A&M fans will be forced to endure yet another round of Arch Manning over-hype next offseason
This year is clearly set up for a disappointment for Arch, as the Longhorns have to replace most of their offensive line (and just lost one of their potential starters to injury). Against SEC defensive fronts, this spells trouble for an inexperienced quarterback.

Yet that has done nothing to stem the hype train that has been chugging full steam ahead this entire summer— and even before. That hype train just got another boost with these comments from Archie Manning.

I thought we might finally get a break from all of this smoke being blown, but I guess not. It's been entirely too much having to listen all summer about a completely unproven quarterback— and even if he disappoints as expected (which, given the hype he's received, is a near-certainty), the media will no doubt do the same thing next offseason.

Of course, this is not a sure thing, just a grandfather's prediction. However, we've heard rumblings about this for quite some time, so I think there's legitimacy here. Looks like Aggie fans will have another long summer to forge through after the 2025 season.

Where is the puff piece and overhype of our 5'10, 160 pound QB who can't throw the ball against air???

Seems to be the formula. There’s usually one or two in there.

Also, how much hype did we have to listen to about johnny 8-ball, and how’d he work out overall in the big picture?

Someone, sorry don't recall who, did a chatGBT mock up of one of his pieces. It was really similar, iirc, sans some specific detail editing that would have polished it off.

But yeah, Graham from Auburn absolutely has the aggie rhythm, cadence and content formula tied down.

Thing is, his writing doesn't bother me at all, despite being full on aggie. It's more jealous in a "why didn't I think of that" way.

This little piss-ant doesn't have a subscription-based gig, which is where the money is. The Jizz-em Gazette (I like that name, btw) is a FanSided, Inc. board obviously dedicated to aggy. Recent data show that FanSided is located in Austin, while in other sources have it located in Chicago. FanSided ranks #61 in a list of peer competition (eg., The Athletic, Barstool Sports, Bleacher Report, etc.) Harmon is a free-lance content writer. Those types generally get meagerly paid by the word, based on their hits frequency, which obviously explains the voluminous output. Two other "writers," Jared A'Latorre and Blake Pace, also contribute on that board. FanSided was formerly owned by Time, Inc., then was sold to Minute Media. It currently hosts over 300 targeted content sites, many of which are college and pro sports-focused. Harrell likely thinks he has hit the motherlode: fleecing gullible aggy dupes who blindly lap up malicious hate for UT and promises that the good times are just around the corner. And who knows--he may have. Liucci did.

Texas A&M fans are much like other college football fans: when close calls go against their team, there is a certain section of the fanbase who will wax eloquent about the disposition of the referees against their team. Of course, much like other fanbases again, you will often see other Aggie fans biting back against those kinds of charges.

In 2024, it seemed to many that the number of these incidences was actually kind of high. The Aggies seemed to be lacking in equitable results when it came to referee calls, and there was a loud portion of the fanbase who was making sure everyone knew it— the most egregious of these being the lack of holding calls against Aggie opponents for a very long stretch.

However, Dave Bartoo (@CFBMatrix on X), a well-respected analytics guru who has a penchant for finding interesting numbers, found that the idea that the Aggies were worse off compared to other teams actually had some validity to it. He found that the Aggies, when it came to judgment calls by the referees, were the most disfavored team in the entire country.

Texas A&M sustained massive hits to possible huge resume thanks to referee's lack of balance
Here's what Bartoo found when digging into the numbers about FBS teams in home games:

Read that again. The Aggies were a negative fourteen in judgment calls going against them in their home slate. That's where, traditionally, you should be getting the benefit of the doubt!

Those calls added a total of 42 total expected points for the Aggies' opponents per EPA-based models— and that's just if A&M had broken even. If we're comparing them to the team that benefitted the most from these judgment calls, it added 75 total expected points to A&M's foes!

It wasn't just bad at home, though. The Aggies were the least favored in the conference when they were road favorites, as well!

Think about how different the season would have looked with a win against Auburn or South Carolina— or both!

The upshot here, of course, is not to complain about unfair refereeing, but to calibrate expectations for the upcoming season. It seems massively unlikely that the Aggies would rank at the bottom of this list two years in a row, so if they can regress to the mean in the upcoming year, it will look like a much bigger step forward thanks to how disfavored they were in 2024.

Still, though, with all the big-name opponents the Aggies hosted last year, you have to wonder when you see this kind of thing. All you can do is move forward, though.

Fansided must pay extra for rage baiting articles.

Meh, I don't get as worked up about uncommon or new uses. That is how we get language. We have both incidence and incident because people corrupted the same word incidens/incidentis into both of them. Dinner is supposed to mean breakfast, but migrated back through the day. *shrug*
