December 3, 20214 yr I think the asst. to HC/analyst situation makes sense. Patterson probably doesn't want to hit the road recruiting and he could help with the defense and be ready to go when PK fails again.
December 3, 20214 yr Tell that surly son of a bitch that Austin is the music capital of the world and that he can play ACL on the undercard.

December 3, 20214 yr Sounds like a AD type position over the football program type role. Wasn’t that a request by Meyer that Eltife and Hartzell allegedly took notes on?

December 3, 20214 yr Let's say Lanning does get OU... Fickell would seem to make more sense, but Joe C. seems to prefer to hire coordinators over established head coaches... Muschamp becomes the new Georgia DC. Despite the fact that I still think we should throw $5 million a year at Boom, we're probably not going to swing our dicks like that. If Elko gets a HC job, we might be competing for a new DC with aggy, assuming we do the smart thing and are letting PK go after NSD1. Things could get interesting in an area outside of HS recruiting between us.

I thought that sounded familiar to what Kill did. GP had his staff set up where pretty much his analysts or special assistants helped the coordinators create a scheme/game plan for the week while the position coaches were freed up to recruit and coach their groups.
December 3, 20214 yr I think we will get a good read on Patterson's role based on the supporting staff. Patterson will want some of his assistants on staff if he's going to be truly involved with the defense. Assuming Texas actually hires Patterson of course.

December 3, 20214 yr Patterson has always been edgy. Something this defensive staff could use more of. Hopefully, it's at least a Co-DC situation with PK focusing on the front and Gary on the back end. I think Sark as offensive playcaller really needs the defense to run well on gameday without him. Patterson seems like a good approach to that. He has also been an excellent talent evaluator which it looks like we are going to need.

Sark needs to free up as much time as possible to focus on the offense. Bringing in GP would help him do that while also hopefully fixing the defense. I know, I know, people say that's not what a good head coach would need to do! Who fucking cares, it's what is needed and it could actually work. Edited December 3, 20214 yr by Tex-19
December 3, 20214 yr It's pretty much the same approach Ryan Day and Lincoln Riley take. It can work at a pretty high level. But you have to really trust the DC completely.
December 3, 20214 yr Muschamp needs to stop dicking around at UGA then and come back to Texas. If I'm Sark I would trust Muschamp to do his thing more than I would Gary Patterson

December 3, 20214 yr Gary Patterson coming here to run the defense with PK being relegated to an assistant coach is just too fucking good to be true.
December 3, 20214 yr Both PK and Patterson have had historically great defenses, this year both had historically bad defenses.

Going from Herman's teams making every game a rat fight in the fourth quarter to Sark's teams rolling over and showing their bellies was not pleasant and S&C feels like a big part of that.

December 4, 20214 yr Moffitt is one of the best S&C coaches in the country. There will be a long line for that one. Coaches like their own guys but surprised Kelly canned him.
December 4, 20214 yr While everyone else is in Ewers land, might be a good time to mention that Brian Kelly just canned Tommy Moffitt from LSUHopefully Sark has a plane waiting on him.
December 4, 20214 yr Moffitt has been at LSU for 20 years - how many different HC's is that. Wonder if Aranda tries to bring him to Baylor.
December 4, 20214 yr Ewers + Patterson + Moffitt. The future looks a lot brighter if we hit that trifecta.

December 4, 20214 yr LSU fans seem happy about firing Moffitt and think he was no longer a plus to the team. LSU had poor conditioning and lots of injuries the past couple years. I am sure we can do better than Becton but I don't think we want Moffitt at this point in his career.
