Rebellions are built on hope.

Looked it up the other day.

Danny Shelton, somewhat short and fat. In year 1 of PK as DC at UW. 94 tackles, 17 TFLs, 9 sacks.

Everybody we played on the DLINE this year had about 120 tackles and 20 TFLs. Combined.

Ojomo graded out well yet no sacks, 29 tackles, 3 TFLs for a net loss of 4 yards. That doesn’t add up.

Jones was likely a huge loss. His TFL vs KSU netted as many lost yards as our sack losses from about Baylor on combined (excepting WVU). Our defense prior to his departure was much better. Coburn seemingly played a different type game vs KState. Why?

People wanna kiss Henry ToToto buttocks. He had 8 TFLs, 4 sacks. But freakin Will A had 30 something TFLs and 16 sacks. He helped create opportunities for those around him. We need that kind of guy. You can’t tell me they don’t throw blockers at him yet he still does it. That’s why I’m good throwing 7 scholarships on that front 4.

Outside of Ossai last year, we produced 12 sacks. Same guys, different scheme, same crappy results. At least rushing the passer. I just don’t think we have playmakers.

I don’t want to summon Ian, but the dirty little secret to defense is getting pressure with 4. If you can do that, being  a DC is easy. We shall see what Texas rolls out next year, but finding a bad ass pass rusher in the portal is going to be tough.

The important thing is Coleman is gone. If he used us for leverage good for him.

Not just a go-getter, but a go-go-getter, I see ...

You do you, the offensive line's entire objective is to block, blitz pick up is secondary in the Sark offense because he tries to get his best players in open space. You can't do that while blocking. I never saw blocking as a primary issue for the RB's except in wildcat and they had really good results with that from my recollection. I recall the RB room being the deepest and most talented room on the roster. Not sure too many people would argue with that. Blitz pick up from RB's being an issue is nitpicking when it comes to this team's deficiencies on offense. I come from the lean QC perspective. What are your biggest issues and fix those. You have corrective actions to fix those issues. 1. O-line, 2 QB, 3 WR, RB issues would be last. Having said that, they should always strive to improve in any area that is possible but to insinuate that RB blitz pickup was a major deficiency on the offensive side of the ball is absurd.

So, Deming’s ghost for WR coach? Wonder if he can be a volume recruiter, too.

Malcolm Kelly probably means we get Quentin Johnston.

Pitt paid Mr. Whipple $476,450 last year

money whipping Marion may be easier said than done

If Sark really wants Marion, he could offer him a co-coordinating role with the promise of installing some of his Go Go Offense.

We’ll if we go through the characters on the cover…

Ben - killed by his best friend and pupil

Han - killed by his murderous son after parting ways with the love of his life

Luke - became a whiney bitch after his pupil became a galaxy murdering Sith

Leia - died of…a broken heart?  Like her mother?

You write good stuff, but it's not reasonable to hold anyone to that kind of standard. I'd love for Texas to find a natural born leader that also happens to be the baddest motherfucker in all of college football as well, but let's start with hoping that one of the cats that Texas just signed reminds us of Joseph Ossai or Brian Orakpo first. That shit is lofty enough and would lay groundwork to resetting the defense.

You’re right. It’s not reasonable to expect that. For now, I’d like a roster that wins 10. Next year, we should be in that ballpark but will we get it done?

I’d love a Kindle/Orakpo combo, but I’d be pleased with either of those pass rushers or an Ossai. He’ll just find two guys that the offense must account for, and that makes all others better. We currently have no one like that.

Just having Burke on the edge jumping up and down on obvious pass downs might serve us better than our current pass rush.

Like Codaxx said the front 4 that can get pressure makes a d coordinator look good. So throw resources at it.

So we may have to sacrifice a few Surly posters to get there.

Brennan Marion's potential recruiting impact at Texas

When Chris Beard took over as the head basketball coach at Texas, one of the first things he mentioned as an advantage was the boost he's gotten from recruiting with the Longhorn logo on his clothes as opposed to having to recruit against it. Beard developed his recruiting tenacity at Seminole State JC, McMurry, and Angelo State before working his way up to division one hoops and eventually taking the recruiting ankle weights off and flourishing at Arkansas Little Rock, Texas Tech, and this past offseason at Texas.

After talking with a number of coaches and sources over the weekend, if Texas does land WR coaching candidate Brenan Marion from Pittsburgh a similar effect would likely occur. Marion, who developed his recruiting chops at Oklahoma Baptist, Howard, and William & Mary was described as a relentless high-volume recruiter that has developed relationships across a broad spectrum in the recruiting world.

While Marion doesn't have the recruiting "skins on the wall" that some feel are required to coach at Texas, the 34-year old was described to me as someone who possesses the traits to be a star in short time with the Texas Longhorns brand and Steve Sarkisian's offense at his disposal.

Speaking of Steve Sarkisian's offense, I talked with a source that has a good relationship with Marion that mentioned the ability to pick Sark's brain on the whiteboard and learn from one of football's best offensive minds could outweigh the appeal of implementing his "GoGo" offense at Temple or Pittsburgh.

Similar to new Texas RB coach Tashard Choice, Marion is very familiar with the state of Texas from his time recruiting the Lone Star State as his out-of-state area recruiting area. However, one thing that differentiates him from Choice is that Marion had to cast a much wider net looking for D2/FCS prospects across the state, which has led to Marion developing relationships across the entire state.

In fact, I talked to a head coach from the Austin area today that straight up said there hasn't been an out-of-state coach that has recruited his school better over the years than the 34-year old wide receivers coach. In addition to his relationships with coaches across the state of Texas, Marion garnered rave reviews from trainers, 7-on-7 coaches, and recruiting specialists that I spoke with which continues to grow in importance in the modern age of recruiting.
