April 27, 20223 yr Popular Post From Mike Roach — One staff hire that has flown under the radar is Bobby Merritt. A former NFL and CFL scout, Merritt is listed on his twitter as the assistant director of player personnel scouting. After a career in the military, Merritt spent 12 years in the NFL as a college scout with the Lions and Texans. He also worked as the director of football recruiting for Tennessee and director of player personnel for Houston. Most recently, Merritt served as the director of scouting and assistant GM for the Edmonton Elks of the CFL. According to a high school coach I spoke to with knowledge of Merritt, he's playing a pivotal role in scouting college prospects in the NCAA Transfer Portal. The coach I spoke with also said he's doing some work self-scouting the current roster. It wasn't a hire that made waves, but it's fascinating to see Sark continue to add layers to the personnel department.
