USC five-star freshman QB Malachi Nelson is expected to enter the transfer portal, sources tell @247sports https://t.co/6Cw7NKmknb

Is this a rat leaving a sinking ship, or the result of a difficult post season conversation-(“son, it’s not working out for you here. You might want to enter the portal and find a better fit “?)

Time will tell. If the kid transfers to a blue blood, it’s a bad sign for Riley. If he transfers to a G5, it means the kid wasn’t ready.

IDK.  really hard to read much into transfers in todays environment.  And I say that with ZERO love for Riley and USC.

There's some scuttlebutt that Nelson has looked pretty bad.

I'm assuming Nelson kinda sucks because they're talking to the KSU QB in the portal.  Aside from Caleb Williams, every player or recruit LR took with him from OU has been a bust or is now in the portal just two years later.

More:

USC DB Domani Jackson is expected to enter the Transfer Portal, per reportsJackson was a 5🌟 and ranked No.17 overall in the 2022 class

#2757

Im starting to fall into the camp that maybe Riley to the Chargers has some smoke and the kids are bailing.

Also so far there has been no 100% on the KSU QB officially signing with USC yet

They may lose 6-7 games this coming year.  I know he has a huge buyout and they have a lot of money but jeez....

I think they will be better than that, he actually made some decent defensive hires in the offseason so I would imagine a decent jump on the defensive side of the ball. It wouldn't surprise me to see them only lose 2 or 3 games.

Okies hate Riley like they hate KD and Royal (after he turned down their offer when Bud Wilkinson retired). Their insecurity can’t handle it when somebody leaves them voluntarily.

TBH, I agree with them on Riley. He's a fucking pussy ass bitch and his actions have showed that even while he was there.

I agree that he made some solid defensive hires. That will help, but I don't see a real reason for 10-2 levels of optimism.

1) The main flaw with a Lincoln Riley program is that he truly doesn't give a shit about defense. He will continue to call the game he prefers and that will continue to put his defense on tilt due to pace.

2) USC lacks dudes right now. Per NFL scouts and college observers visiting practices, they don't have a ton of NFL talent the way they usually do. It's kind of a Texas 2010-2021 issue but with a genius offensive playcaller.

3) You are not giving their schedule its due, in my view. LSU on neutral ground requiring travel to open will be draining. Utah State is a multiyear bowl team and well-coached. Michigan will still have dudes in Ann Arbor. Wiscy, Nebraska, PSU and Notre Dame will all be fistfights. Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland and UCLA will all be around bowl eligibility. There are a lot of ways to see them losing 4+ with that schedule. When a well-coached regular bowl participant from the P5 is your biggest lay-up, that's a tough 12 games.

I will be surprised if they're better than 8-4 in the regular season. Vegas has their total at 7.5 so I guess they'd be pretty surprised as well.

They were all correct about him, though.  Them toothless Sooners know their football.

#2769

Oh, we’ll see. Y’all were pretty sure you were better with Westbrook than Durant for a while, too.

I’m just amused by how Sooners lose their shit when someone takes a better job and leaves them.

Plus their culture is toxic dogshit and they play like a bunch of pussies.   Fold at the first sign of any adversity.

What?   Nobody hates Royal at OU.  If anything he is owed for multiple titles.  He voluntarily taught OU the wishbone offense.  He also was a great dude by all accounts.  You’re a moron.

I don’t think anyone outside maybe Georgia or  tOSU could go 10-2 with this schedule.  OU will be doing really well to go 9-3.

Who’s bitching about the schedule you clown ass MF?  I said it’s hard, which is a fact, and they’ll lose more than a couple games.  Where’s the bitching?  Fuck, serious case of shit for brains with you…

Mack definitely had a fragile ego. I've never seen such a pussy in my life. I mean holy shit. He didn't even take the UT/OU rivalry seriously. That stupid bastard really told the kids to have fun and it was just another game. Total beta.

Ignore the haters Riley, you're doing great! You can't really evaluate a coach until at least year 15 so USC shouldn't make any rash decision.

I haven't watched USC much at all this year, but I'm guessing their demise is due to:

1) poor defense (always been Riley's weakness)

2) opposing defenses have adjusted to his offense and he has no answer

3) No all-world QB to save the day

Mainly number 3. Their defense isn’t terrible this year compared to last.

Riley doesn't want to coach college football anymore. There was an article a while back about how he his mentor who got him into coaching and Mike Leach, who gave him his first coaching job, dying around the same time really put him into a bad mental state and he was tired of all the stuff that comes with coaching college football and how it causes him to miss out on time with his family and friends. He wants to coach in the NFL because it's much less of a grind and a time commitment outside of actually coaching ball. He fucked up his chance of getting an NFL job last year with how bad USC was so now he's just kind of in a void. Couple that with the fact that he also sucks at program building and you have a complete mess.

Which is great because fuck Lincoln Riley.

My boy has Texas A&M written all over him.

I'd find all of that money remarkably distracting. If your motivation is flagging at all, think of all the daydreams about how you could live your life. Paying a coach $20MM a year is just crazy unless maybe it was Saban six years ago.
