New thread because I want to forget about the one I started for the 2021 season. That one needs to be put out to pasture. Having said that…today’s events have me a little happy and excited.

Where’d all this money come from? Powder has been kept very dry

Did someone in ownership have a stroke?

Here for it.

Cheap bastards finally got the message with nobody showing up to a new stadium that the product on the field fucking matters?

Won’t confirm or deny that I posed as a server for their most recent partners meeting and roofied them just enough to force them to spenD money.  Also, I have a 3 week old baby so I may just be delirious and dreaming.

Rangers have committed $556M in the last 24 hours.

Half a billion just for the middle infield.

Don't want to get carried away but we could win 70, 75 games this year.

So next year

1B - Lowe

2nd - Semien

SS - Seager

3rd (eventually) - Jung

Can Solak play 1st or 3rd and be a UTL infielder?

Woa, 75.....dude 72 would be a SOLID 20% Y/Y improvement.

WTF is going on here?  Are the owners being held hostage somewhere?

Now let's get Kershaw, another SP, and a couple of BP arms.

This makes me a bit more nervous about extending Woodward.

Yeah maybe more than one pitcher signing.

beyond that, wtf is going on?

After the cold hard cash Woodward is probably one of the reasons we got seager. That said, we gotta pull the rug fast if this doesn't turn around.

We do have a couple years to develop some farm guys and flesh out the pitching staff before we should be expected to contend (at least at this point - who knows if they're done writing checks). But if it's 2023 and we're below .500 or something at the ASB I hope they don't hesitate to make a change.

I think I have read that Sonny Gray is on the block.... Package IKF, Foscue and a low level SS for him???

Kershaw and an outfielder like Suzuki would be a nice way to wrap this up.

By my Spotrac math Rangers are still only 10th in majors in payroll, and a good chunk drops off in 2023 when Roogie and Elvis come off the books….

Evan Grant on MLB network - Rangers still looking for another SP - Kershaw was mentioned.

damn.  what the fuck happened with our ownership?

Am I the only one not thrilled about Semien? Think it will be good for a couple of years, but 7 years is a long time for a 31 year old...

Pay what the market demands.  Free agency is expensive.

hopefully years 5-6-7 he is above average DH and they develop a young SS to fill that hole.

And David Goddamn Putney.

I'm a little more excited about Semien and hoping he can get close to what he did last year for a few seasons. Sure it's a long deal but so is 10 years for a 27 y/o that's had some injury issues. Semien has finished 3rd in MVP voting twice in the past 3 years. It's been awhile since we've had anyone like that.

I wonder what kind of trade value IKF may have. Middle infield should look quite nice...it had better.

Damn, we paying eeerbody

It would have been cheaper to just pay the fans to show up.

Some of you may not remember, but our little Rangers have ponied up for stupid free agent money before - albeit under different ownership.

Hope they get what they pay for this time.

Here you go, Fudbelty.

Appreciate it.

Box of sunflower seeds and opened pack of grape Big League Chew. He was just a placeholder imo. He wasn’t terrible but with his offense where it’s been he just won’t bring any top talent.

It worries me as well, that and the fact that he was below average offensively until breaking out in 2019 during his 28-year-old season. He'll turn 32 next September.

But when you've been as bad as the Rangers have, you've got to overpay to land talent. I think the owners finally realized they'd become not even an afterthought in DFW and they could no longer wait on a Houston Astros' like rebuild through the draft. (Don't even get me started on JD's abysmal record as it comes to the draft though there are signs they're doing better the last couple of years maybe.)
