When they were talking about the uneven playing field it would create, they were talking about us. Yes and it goes to show just how dumb they are. There was already an uneven playing field with us on the downslope side. It was just a dark money, illegal playing field. They were fine with that so long as it wasn't "uneven" out in the open. Fuck them. Now it's legal and the NCAA can fuck right off if the see-saw flips.

Players would be able - and assisted - to find other NIL-legal income streams on top of the base. This was my idea months ago on a different thread. I proposed Nike pitching in an extra $8.5M on top of our apparel contract to do this. As a result, I take full credit for this idea.

In a free market, an individual member of the womens rowing team wouldnt have the same NIL "value" of a football or hoops player. Will that turn into a shitshow, because Austin? Similar to the people arguing the WNBA players are woefully underpaid compared to the NBA players, but everyone with a brain knows the WNBA doesnt generate near the revenue that the NBA does but nobody gives a fuck about layups and set shots.

December 1, 20214 yr We are a Nike school. Can’t we just use Nike to create a custom branded shoe for elite athletes? Create a few pairs, then have athletes sign a licensing deal promoting Nike.com selling their shoes to fans. Athletes put a link on social media and the athletes get a cut of every “official merch” shoe Nike sells on their website. Imagine being 18 years old and going to a school where you can get an official custom Nike shoe in addition to getting an NIL deal from a restaurant/auto dealership/food company. We don’t need all this collective bullshit if we just swing our Nike tattooed dicks around. Never underestimate the power of custom Nike branded shoes.

Correct. 6 minutes ago, bad_teammate said: There's a reason the female former athlete is there. I doubt they're going to be caught flat-footed on that particular issues. The wimminz will be getting checks and they will enjoy them. Correct. A few other things to think about: 1) The smoking hot females on campuses nationally are already getting paid through NIL more aggressively than most of the male athletes. There's a hot softball player at Texas, for example, who is making damned good money already. There's a gymnast for LSU who's made more than the average NFL salary. We may not agree with or like why such things are what they are, but many of the females already are "winning". 2) There are numerous UT alumni initiatives that are picking up speed after the AD insouciance stirred up a hornet's nest in early July. People at every level are tired of losing and have developed the mantra of "if they're going to label us as the evil empire anyway, might as well have the fucking empire and its riches then" in regard to building something big. There's another massive story dropping very soon and a bunch of us are on that. There are multiple other billionaire-backed plays too. 3) The layer cake we've been preaching, along with the modeling after the Longhorn Foundation premise of endowing all positions, is now actively where this is all heading. Go look at the original thinking on Burnt Ends on the NIL board here, and then look at what we put out there on the 2022 recruiting thread in July regarding all of this, and you guys will see that the efforts on the IP and creativity of getting things actually moving are now flowering. Big money folks, the middle layer of donors, the everyman and fan, they will all drive the competitive advantages inherent to UT and can coalesce beautifully if God or Shiva or whomever will allow us to have nice things. 4) Now think about Austin and the state of Texas' corporate density and what will happen for many standouts on that end as NIL takes root. There are like 30 car dealerships in and around Austin. There are like 4 near College Station and like 8 in Birmingham, as one small example.

I suspect that reality will be handled every bit as smoothly as the Eyes of Texas clusterfuck. UT isn't going to have a say in the matter, and they legally can't. This isn't a title IX issue and can't be. This is about private orgs establishing a market value on a case by case basis. Floors will be set for groups of positions or teams, but different players on each team every year will wind up with more money, and everyone will be fucking fine with that, or they'll be the ones with the well drying up and the transfer portal calling their name. You're manufacturing an issue here that won't exist. Del Conte was literally saying the same nonsense earlier this season. Players aren't stupid. The backup volleyball setter doesn't expect to make what Bijan Robinson makes. However, the backup volleyball setter at Texas is about to be making more every year than damned near every other volleyball star or backup anywhere else in the country. I'm sure bickering will happen down the line because of money, Gen Z entitlement, and typical academic envy trying to drive a wedge. Maybe give it a few years before stoking that though, you think?

Those are my basic thoughts. I know this isn't in the University's purview, but we have so many people who like to rabble rouse and bitch. I want everyone to get paid top dollar. People at the University, in athletics and otherwise, have to realize that if we maximize revenue by maximizing our strength in the big sports, that will trickle down to all sports and all our athletes will benefit. We have to work together instead of pulling against one another. Our AD (IMO) has been divided in purpose for so long that it has weakened the whole entity, in spite of huge amounts of cashflow that should make everyone happy.

They're going to outpace semi-pro leagues and small pro leagues for some of these sports. You think she's dumb enough to not recognize this?
