I can’t imagine Phillip would have an issue with him in the kitchen at VY’s.

What is the deal with Sims? I feel like Banks and Sark are fine with backup plans on offense, but on defense the backup plans disappear after there appears to be momentum and we go back to big game hunting.

What it seemed like people were saying was that A&M added NIL. Is this correct?

It was likely Hilson and we have one more Hi from back in the summer which is Terry.

Don’t hate, Chris Perry is a good guy and has a big presence in Austin beyond just Perry’s (which started in Houston).   i saw Mannings eating at Verdad (one of his other restaurants).  If it’s good enough for them, it’s probably good enough for the recruits.

Also, if you tell me you’ve never crushed a Friday lunch special pork chop and followed up with a couple of spicy margs after a rough week, I don’t believe you.

Why get a pork chop when you can get a steak or a steak burger. Pork is an inferior meet. Steak is best paired with wine. SO, I in fact, have never "crushed a Friday lunch special pork chop and followed up with a couple of spicy margs after a rough week".

Yea, give me a prime beef boneless ribeye cooked to medium with the perfect butter basted crust all day every day until I have a heart attack or stroke

Medium and boneless and butter basted? JFC, will someone, anyone please commit or talk about committing. Please.

Steve Sarkisian, Terry Joseph scheduled to see priority flip prospect on Friday morning

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph will be at Conroe high school on Friday morning to meet with Conroe Top247 defensive back and Oregon commit Dorian Brew, multiple sources tell Horns247.

Ranked as the nation's No. 39 overall prospect, the nation's No. 5 cornerback prospect, and the Lone Star State's No. 11 overall prospect, Brew has been committed to Oregon since June 29 and chose the Ducks over LSU, Ohio State, Texas, and USC back when he pledged to Dan Lanning and Co. in the summer.

Having taken five official visits to his five original contenders (LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, Texas) back in the summer, if Brew were to return to the Forty Acres for a visit between now and Dec. 4's Early Signing Day, the trip would have to be an unofficial visit.

As far as the recruitment currently goes, there's a bit of differentiating info Horns247 is hearing.

When asked about Brew about two weeks ago, a source in Austin Horns247 spoke with described feeling as if Texas was in "striking distance" of the Oregon commit. On the flip side, a source in Houston I was in communication with as late as yesterday evening believes that Brew is about as locked in as one could be to his Oregon commitment, but mentioned that they'd see a flip to Texas as more of a possibility later on in the cycle IF the Longhorns were to continue winning and Oregon was to experience a few unexpected losses on their first year Big Ten schedule.

The source is aware of how crazy recruiting can get for prospects ranked around where Brew is and that things can happen almost out of nowhere, but again, they are pretty confident that Brew is confident in his decision to go to Oregon, at least as things currently stand at the beginning of October.

While this might be a bit contradictory, the source in Houston did say he could see Brew taking a visit to Texas between now and signing day with the Georgia game making the most sense to the source when asked when he could see Brew potentially returning to the Forty Acres, but as of now there is nothing scheduled between Brew and Texas that Horns247 is aware of.

Outside of Sarkisian and Joseph being scheduled to be at Conroe tomorrow morning, we don't have a ton of new developments in the recruit to report.

However, there is a new coach on the Conroe staff of note, as former Texas Longhorn defensive back Ben Wells is now on staff with the Tigers as their co-defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Wells was previously at Aldine Nimitz the last few seasons where prior to that he was coaching at Humble Atascocita.

Wells attended Beaumont Ozen before enrolling at Texas in January of 2007. After redshirting his true freshman season in 2007, Wells would go on to appear in 24 games at safety and on special teams as he accumulated 12 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, an INT, and a special teams touchdown before transferring to Stephen F. Austin for the last two years of his collegiate career in 2010 and 2011.

As far as what I think happens in this one, it's extremely hard to get a clear read on this one with the differentiating info and with Brew being such a shy, quiet kid that doesn't respond to texts or pick up the phone. But I do think that if Brew is going to back out of his Oregon commitment, it would be Texas who lands him and not one of the three other original contenders in LSU, Ohio State, and USC.

As Sarkisian and Co. have shown quite literally every single full recruiting cycle they've been in Austin for, flips usually happen within the month leading up to early signing day, or at least the large majority of what I deem as a "big flip". Kelvin Banks, Anthony Hill Jr., Xavier Filsaime, etc.

That said, if a flip to Texas ends up happening here, it will likely be in the month of November or December rather than October.

Brew's scouting report from 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins reads as follows:

"Good-sized corner prospect. Looks to have a thicker build through the mid-line. Primarily plays press-man and off-man coverages. Noticeably physical and will lower the shoulder to make open-field stops, which suggest boundary role potential, although will need to get better disengaging from blocks. Pretty sticky in coverage, especially on the underneath stuff. Needs to learn to more consistently turn and locate the ball, but frequently puts himself where he needs to be with strong body positioning.

Owns strong multi-sport context with several sub-11.00 100-meter reps. Can play more consistently to those impressive speed markers in pads. Projects as a high-major cover man who could potentially play multiple roles in the secondary. Long-term ceiling should be high given physical tools and verified athleticism."

At 6-foot, 200 pounds Brew is ranked as the No. 39 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 5 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 11 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings

127°, imo, if you’re going to do that. And with a thicker cut.

This doesn’t even make sense. I could explain more, but it would go way off topic.

I do filets rare to medium rare due to the leaner cut. Strips usually medium rare.

Has anyone heard any updated timelines for Terry?

Good ribeyes don't have the giant globs of fat he's talking about.  They have better marbling so that it's distributed evenly.

Shut. The. Fuck. Up!

Or take this dumb discussion here:

Few things are more boring than reading about a bunch of idiots' eating preferences and personal cooking techniques for steaks/stuff.

Here's a recruiting update from Bobby Burton:

Spoiler

Several coaches will get on the road to go recruiting following this morning’s practice. And they will stay on the road until tomorrow night. Expect Texas coaches at high schools and football games across the state over the next two days

The Texas players, meanwhile, will be off Friday and Saturday - most will head home for the first time this season - and then will be expected to return for a Sunday afternoon/evening team meeting.

This is the cadence of a bye week In season.

**

Additional recruiting needs (how I see them) from both high school and portal:

QB - none

RB - none from high school; maybe 1 in portal which is somewhat dependent on Baxter’s rehab.

WR - 2; probably one from high school and one from portal; Texas should always go after an A-1 receiver in the portal;  expect some attrition from the room.

TE - no others from high school; possibly one from portal depending on Amari Niblack’s development or lack thereof.

OL - maybe 1 high schooler (looking for a possible tackle); maybe 1 in portal depending on how many starters go pro.

DT - 2 more high schoolers; plus 1 or 2 from portal, depending on internal attrition. Texas’ biggest need in both HS ranks and portal IMO.

Edge - possibly one more high schooler if elite; no need for portal

LB - one more from high school if elite; possibly one from portal if elite.

CB - one more high schooler; one from portal, but only if you can find the right one.

S - 0-1 more high schoolers (only would want if elite); 0-1 in portal

Who's trying to flip who

OnTexasFootball begins your Thursday by looking at who's trying to flip who.

One thing OTF will not do is insult the intelligence of college coaching staffs and fan bases. For instance, Oregon and FSU knew Texas was trying to flip Josiah Sharma and Myron Charles before Sharma visited or Charles was thinking about a July visit. Same with others in prior classes. No different than Texas is fully aware that Oregon and others are still trying on Sharma, and FSU and Miami are still trying with Charles. These college coaching staffs are fully aware.

Fast forward to October 3, and nothing has changed. The Texas staff knows Miami is and will make one more big run at one of the top commits in the class. Oregon knows Texas will try to flip an in-state prospect committed to the Ducks. Dan Lanning, Ra'shaad Samples, and Will Stein don't look at each other in a recruiting meeting with blank stares! And the same goes for Texas A&M and Texas with each other's commitments. The bottom line, the coaching staffs know behind the scenes before it ever gets out publicly.

Now that we have the obvious out of the way, it's time to look at who's trying to flip who.

Miami making one more run at Jaime Ffrench

As one would expect, the Miami Hurricanes are making one more run at Texas WR commit Jaime Ffrench (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin). And the Canes should, or they aren't doing their job. No different than Cedric Baxter Jr. visiting FSU during the season, or Jerrick Gibson visiting Florida during the season.

Miami is trying to get Ffrench to make a game-day visit this month. The Texas staff knows this. Steve Sarkisian and Chris Jackson are not surprised, and expected Miami to make a final run.

Wide receivers coach Chris Jackson is scheduled to be in Jacksonville Friday to see Ffrench. But that has nothing to do with Miami making the expected final run. This has been scheduled for a while.

An additional note here: Miami is also making a similar run at Oregon wide receiver commit Dallas WIlson (Tampa, Fla./Tech). The Canes are hoping to win out for one of the two stud in-state wide receiver prospects.

Florida State battling to keep Daylan McCutcheon

The Florida State staff knew prior to McCutcheon making game day visits to Texas A&M and Texas the last two weeks that both programs were in contact with the Lovejoy High 4-star wide receiver.

OTF believes FSU is fighting a real uphill battle here.

Texas A&M has also been fully aware that Texas has remained interested in 4-star+ wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson. Aggies wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins attended the Hitchcock vs. Bellville game September 19 and spoke with the Hitchcock High staff about this.

Texas working to flip in-state DB's

Texas remains in contact with Oregon 4-star++ verbal Dorian Brew (Conroe, Texas/High). And yes, Oregon knows and has known.

Texas remains in contact with Texas A&M 4-star commit Cobey Sellers (Pearland, Texas/Shadow Creek). And yes, Texas A&M knows and has known.

Texas battling for flips in the Peach State

Defensive line coach Kenny Baker may have the toughest task of all. Flying out to his home state of Georgia today to make further runs at some of the top defensive linemen in the Southeast Region.

Texas continues to make a run at FSU 4-star+ commit Kevin Wynn (Greensboro, Ga./Greene County). Wynn has already been on campus at South Carolina and is expected to be on campus at Georgia and possibly Texas for the remainder of the season. FSU knew weeks ago and knows this currently.

Florida fully understands they are up against it on OTF 4-star+ defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou (Loganville, Ga./Grayson). Texas is battling Alabama and Georgia for the fast-rising. This is a battle for a defensive lineman with a very high ceiling. Mbatchou is scheduled to make his OV to Texas for the Georgia game.

Kids don't return to school in Savannah, Ga. most places until Monday following Hurricane Helene. There have been many without power or damage to homes. That means the recruitment of OTF 4-star++ defensive lineman and LSU commit Walter Mathis Jr. of Calvary Day High has slowed down a little. Texas is still working to get the 6-1.5, 288-pound wrecking ball to Austin for the Georgia game. Miami also continues to pursue the nationally underrated Peach State lineman.

Some other flip targets for Texas

Riley Pettijohn, LB, McKinney (Texas) High - *Ohio State commit

Dijon Lee, CB, Mission Hills (Calif.) High - *Alabama commit

Lamont Rogers, OT, Mesquite (Texas) Horn - *Missouri commit

Zion Williams, DL, Lufkin (Texas) High - *LSU commit

There are others Texas remains in contact with, but the key remains getting those players to campus for a game. Georgia is that game for many.

Since the one rb update says dependent on baxter’s rehab but does not mention Clark’s rehab- is there an assumption about Clark’s injury that’s already baked in to the room number?  If so, I’d take a guess that the assumption is he won’t be around.

Not counting on Clark as anything more than a lottery ticket seems the sound course of action, unfortunately.  Achilles injuries are brutal, and I can’t think of any examples of players coming back strong after surgery, right?  Jonathan Gray was never the same after his.

How does Baxter’s rehab timeline fit with the portal timeline? Is there going to be time for a definitive positive outcome before a portal decision must be made?

Gerry’s article is one of the most defensive $9.95 write ups I’ve ever read. Have there been a lot of OTF olds clutching pearls about whether news of recruits’ activities is putting their commitments in danger? It just comes off like GH is telling people to chill the fuck out.

Baxter's injury was pretty rare, so no clue on the timeline.  2 torn ligaments and neither was his ACL.  I think the LCL is a bigger deal than the PCL.

I think it was more of a rebuttal to whatever cloak & dagger silliness was being spewed by one of the other $9.95ers and then that being played back to OTF with old man questions/statements.

He’s extremely young and that’s pretty much the biggest hope there. It’s pretty much a death knell as far as injuries go. Sucks for the kid and for the program.
