Nickelback sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

50 fucking million.

Nickelback.

The transformation of world cuisine following the Columbian exchange is interesting.  Tomatoes, corn, potatoes, vanilla - all new world crops.  No paprika in Hungarian cuisine before that.

This is not that unbelievable. The public loves stripped down pop music with catchy, radio friendly hooks and sound. Britney Spears, Nsync, etc were all very popular as well and sold tons of records.

This is something I love to explain to my students each year.  Amazing that Italians didn't have tomatoes, the Swiss didn't have chocolate, Irish didn't have potatoes, etc...and the West didn't have coffee, chickens, or horses.

Saw em three times in their heyday. Fun band.

Buzz seems to have solid tastes yet likes Nickelback. Given that, he may have had sex with Roseanne Barr

People that have sex once or twice a week are less likely to get sick than those that don't.

There is actually an organization that allows you to pay 35k Euros for the chance to run 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days.

Does there have to be a partner?  Asking for a friend.

Probably not. I've always thought that the frequency of getting sick is probably proportional to the amount of time one spends around children. There's probably an inverse relationship between sexual activity and amount of time spent around children. (Unless you're Jerry Sandusky.)

I’m on record as having some real crap in my music pantheon. Sometimes I want fast food, sometimes I want haute cuisine.

we give them tomatoes, avocados, peanuts, vanilla, and chili peppers and they give us weeds and diseases? fuckers.

Donald Trump is President of the United States.

The equivalent would be if I said Jerry Jones would be president 10 years from now.  That idea would be incredulous.

If you buy the Guns Germs and Steel theory behind it, the disparity there comes from the same reason the Europeans were relatively more advanced as a civilizations - greater number of domesticable animals in the old world than the new.  Helped advance civilization but that's also where the diseases come from.

Maybe yes, maybe no. There is not a consensus.

College Station and Norman are both in the New World, and I'm pretty sure syphilis originated in one of those places

Abstract

This article discusses the presentation of scientific findings by documentary, without the process of peer review. We use, as an example, PBS's “The Syphilis Enigma,” in which researchers presented novel evidence concerning the origin of syphilis that had never been reviewed by other scientists. These “findings” then entered the world of peer‐reviewed literature through citations of the documentary itself or material associated with it. Here, we demonstrate that the case for pre‐Columbian syphilis in Europe that was made in the documentary does not withstand scientific scrutiny. We also situate this example from paleopathology within a larger trend of “science by documentary” or “science by press conference,” in which researchers seek to bypass the peer review process by presenting unvetted findings directly to the public. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

For a second I read that as Bill Cosby. Columbian Exchange would be a good name for a revered person whose legacy is completely trashed by a spotlight shined on their actions. Bill Cosby, Joe Parerno - highly respected but went through a Columbian Exchange in the end of their lives.

Rocker Billy Squier has made millions because his songs are among the most sampled by hip hop artists. He is now worth 40 million.

Why are we putting Britney in the same class as Nickelback?

She hot.

Unbelievable but true..  There is a thread on this board extolling the virtues of various bidets...

The worst thing about this is that the virtues of bidets are not being extolled more prominently. Ride the wave of a new future.

Shut your ignorant mouth, poobutt.

The first season of Seinfeld was in 1989, which is exactly half way between the first year of the Andy Griffith show (1960) and the present.

We could do an entire thread on time and age.  The Wedding Singer came out in 1997, and was set 1985, 12 years prior.  Remember how cheesy 1985 was, as shown?

Well, a sequel/reboot today, with the same time gap would be set in 2006.

Jesus.  The difference between 1985 and 1997 seems much more stark than 2006 to 2018.  Other than phones, what's really different?
