December 8, 20214 yr Carmine Picardo, the state assignor of officials for the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, said referees in the replay booth looked at every angle and could not see anything definitively. They currently don't crown a "state champion". Under NJSIAA (their UIL) there has been a clause that read: "No state champions shall be declared in football." so they took the top X teams and broke them into groups based on points and played a bunch of "championships" (10 for public schools this year). Apparently in June of this year they finally voted and was almost unanimous (255-3) to change to remove the clause and crown a true "State Champion". Starting in 2022 they will do regions again but then continue until single team left.

We're the best!" SMH NJ
