I’m not in a position to give advice,  but It’s hard to imagine a realistic scenario in any state in the continental US where passing though with a properly secured 6+1 lever action rifle causes a legal problem.

If you drive through without stopping you are protected by the Firearm Owner’s Protection Act. If you stop for any meaningful period of time, you’re not. You cannot bring a firearm into Massachusetts without registering it with the state, which you cannot currently do (to cite but one example). And as for taking it into certain cities? You’re toast.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but taking an unregistered unlicensed firearm of any kind into some areas is a felony. Leaving it in your car is a felony. Taking it into a hotel is a felony.

Sure but what’s meaningful? I’m not trying to be combative, I’m just trying to ground the legal risk in scenarios where local law enforcement would reasonably get involved.

If you're in DC, New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts they pride themselves on getting involved.

Well OK, but what are we talking about here? If a person in New Jersey takes his lever gun in a locked case into a motel in Massachusetts it seems highly unlikely to cause a problem. Particularly since non-residents hunt in Massachusetts and NY for Deer and Bear regularly and legally.
again, not arguing just trying to understand what is the reality of enforcement.

I wouldn't sleep on a .357 lever gun either. Other than the legal bit.

Lever action 30-30 and or .357? Yes please. Beautiful works, and is a great pass it on piece, if they survive the boat trip! Love the pics.

Disclaimer, IANAL! Others should jump in here. As this could be a good discussion / learning opportunity.

The laws state to state? IF is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Forget NFA/ATF items. Period, full stop if not dealing with known locations, just don’t! There is a form/process for that. Not too bad, but planned, known locations.

Moving on to everyday just get in a car and go things, is still problematic, even with normal items. But that is another problem, what is a normal item? What is legal here, may not be legal there. Capacity of a magazine is an issue for example.

How do you travel with one? Some were pointed out above, in car, hotel, which state/county/city… secured helps. But… not easy to answer. Gun and ammo separate or loaded?

LTC/CC holder? Reciprocity is still tricky if provided, although it’s not 188x, it’s still something to work through. There are some states / cities that are a hard pass (for me anyway), even with licensing / paperwork. Simply for the fact that one has to be 100% correct 100% every time. Even if you are right, it’s time and money! Whatever you have, the local government has more.

Hunting in another county, state, country, paperwork and processes. Most people are going to do that only (we get it, guys trip), get in, hunt, get out.

Driving state to state on a road trip? Hmmm, curious, more details are needed. What are your state laws? Where are you planning to go? One continuous trip, all states? Multiple trips over time? All in one, life bucket list with multiple or combo of things (sight seeing / hunting / camping)? It can probably be done, with a lot planning, and paperwork.

As asked, I would rather do a Cannonball run, than just jump in and drive (the speed limit), coast to coast packing, if the packages survive the boat trip!

Hopefully with the glorious result of last Tuesday we can get some relief from Congress on these issues.

Fascist rule is generally known for loosening regulations on firearms… /noCR

Your best bet here is a complete dismantling of the ATF, not meaningful legislation with gun laws.

Bought my JM Marlin .30-30 new in 1968. $80, IIRC.

They're super cool.  It's wild to think that the basics of "modern" firearms have changed very little over the decades.  It's mainly construction materials, optics, and calibers.

I've got another 1905 in .35win .  Slick little guns.

One of my biggest regrets is letting a 1907 (.351 SL) branded on the stock with markings from a Folsom Prison guard unit get away.   I should have held my nose at the price and just kept bidding.

And expensive to manufacture.
That’s why the Remington Model 51 was dropped before WW2.
This one was carried frequently by Mrs. Brat’s grandfather, a prominent builder in Taylor, from the 1920s until the early 1950s .
High quality little .380 that shoots very well.

Yeah - There are some Model 70's in that go-round that I'm watching.  There's a Super Grade carbine length in 257Bob that makes my fingers tingle.

That's about as rare of a 70 as you can find.  So much so it has me curious how well it is documented, as it would have to be a special order.

Well, CHIEF Jr. almost got ran over by a 350 lb. boar the other night, at the lease. He kinda acted lighthearted around me. But Mrs. CHIEF and my nephew said it kinda rattled him. He is a bit tough to buy for, for Christmas, but he told me he wanted a 10mm, as his 9mm Sig just doesn't have enough lead in it's pencil. Looking like it will be an FN 510 Tactical. Looks to be running $899 at Palmetto State. It is a big ol' bastard.

I have the 509T, nice pistol

I shot a 310 pound wild sow five times with a .270 less than 25 yards away up to point blank and I’m not sure there’s any pistol I’d feel good about using in that situation.

Seconded on the 10mm.  At my farm, I used to carry a Sig Scorpion 1911 in .45 until twice I ran into sounders at night and it just wasn’t enough to make a dent in them - not enough firepower, no light, not enough capacity.  Even finishing off big rifle-wounded pigs, the .45 just didn’t quite do it.  So, I procured this G20 10mm and never looked back.

IMG_6110.thumb.jpeg.3056deaaf7922a9b8198ebda3a4378b7.jpeg

It’s a glock, so I don’t care about mud, water, dirt, or corrosion like I did with the 1911.  15 rounds of 200gr Federal Fusion (though I might switch to the new 200gr Federal Solid Core).  Streamlight TLR-7A is compact but illuminates entire fields.  One Tigris nylon holster adjusts to fit the G20 plus light and doesn’t care about sweat or elements.  Old ass leather belt completes the rig.  Once used to it, it’s not too heavy to open carry on the farm all day long, and I wear it all the time.  I’ve used it to finish off one hog and kill another - one shot each.

The FN 510 is a great gun, and CHIEF Jr. will love it.  Put a micro red dot on it, suppress it, and have some real fun!

I carry a 10mm Glock with Underwood Ammo loading 140gr Lehigh Extreme Penetrator.

Killed plenty of hogs and my share of deer with it.  Love deer hunting with it as a placebo for bow hunting

If he is gonna shoot a big boy gun, he is gonna shoot big boy pills. I got him a couple of boxes of 50 round 200 gr. FMJs for plinking, and a box of 230 gr. JHPs for business.

CHIEF
