I've had an old m70 that someone took to with a sander, de-finished the stock and chopped several inches off the barrel to make a truck or cabin gun (i guess).  Got tired of looking at the abomination and sent it up to my guy Justin Hale.

Based on the fact there is basically no throat erosion, the muzzle blast from a 300H&H must not be conducive to a lot of shooting.

He had a replacement barrel we we did a barrel swap and he refinished the stock back to how it should have looked.  Here's how a 1952 300 Magnum (H&H) would have rolled out of the factory.

A 17" barrel 300H&H had to be quite a fireball coming out of the end.

It came out of an estate in Wash. state, so I'm guessing it was someone's DIY version of a SHTF bear gun or similar.

Sanded down like it was I could tell the grain would be pretty when refinished. Thankfully the action was untouched and well preserved, matching the new (old) barrel well.

I keep telling myself my family will appreciate it when they get to split up these 70's.  I'm so thoughtful that way!!!!!!!!!  Always thinking of others needs and not my own wants.

@AnastasisWhat year is that Python?  If it was made any time in oh, let's say the last 100 years, then you should buy it!  Would be irresponsible not to.

You convinced me. Brought the Python home as well as a little pocket gun.

Any leads on a good option to help an individual sell/auction an extensive collection of vintage firearms in DFW?

Send me a list first and save the premium????

I love buying from estates, even when paying true fair market value.  Better firearms even if it isn't a "deal".

If you need some names of reputable auction houses, send me a message.

I buy a fair amount from several auction houses and have a pretty good feel for the way they treat customers on both the buy and sell side.

Yep - when pre64 called me they were bummed b/c the cut barrel was pristine. Said the chopper probably had a lot of regret after round #1 was fired.

I have two pre64 70's that I can't imagine altering in any form or fashion.

Rock Island Auction is having a 3000+ item auction this weekend in Bedford

https://www.rockislandauction.com/catalog/1048

We split up Dad’s guns a few weekends ago.  I got the Buffalo Bill commerstive ‘94 Winchester 30-30 for my daughter (nopics) who loves shooting lever guns, and a Belgian Browining Auto-5 Mag for my son.

Also drew both SxSs that have been in the family 100+ years

Shot a Hayes custom today for the first time.

It is probably the finest DS1911 on the planet. Atlas would like something to say about it, but holy shit it’s incredible.

What are those dark brown bolt actions left/middle?   3rd from the left, 6th from the left and to the left of the pump shot gun?

6th from left looks like a Springfield ‘03, and a Mauser 98 just next to it.

1917 Remington Enfield 30.06
1903 Springfield 30.06
M48 8mm Mauser (from Mitchell’s Mausers, Looks like it was never fired)
K98 8mm Mauser

Dad also had a CMP M1 garand that found its was I to my safe earlier and an M1 carbine that was stolen sometime after he started having care givers come to his house. I didn’t realize he had some guns on the from seat of an old truck in his garage and someone got it and a pistol.

Here’s another pic along with the Garand,  a Sporterized 1903 and a SKS.  Dad had me take the 30.06s several years back and the SKS went to the ranch as a common use gun.

Those are beautiful.   I thought one looked like a 1903.

Friend had a tokarov pistol that did that.  Good for scaring the shooter and accurate enough to hit the water in a large stock tank.    That’s about it.

Those A5's are nice

That Rem 1917 looks to be in good condition as well.  Cool rifle....overlooked b/c it wasn't quite as refined as the '03 but a great battle rifle.

Is that a factory installed Poly Choke on one of those Brownings?  If the barrel isn't choke-marked, then it would be.  Pretty cool.

The Enfield is in great condition, manufactured by Remington. Don’t know if it was refurbed at some point. We took it and all the other 30.06s over to the ranch once, along with a case of M2 ball and had a mini High Power Match using 100yd NRA targets. Fun day with many rounds fired and lots of sore shoulders.

That Auto-5 is a 16ga with a poly choke and labeled as an FN, no Browning markings on it. Didn’t look for any choke marks and don’t know anything about the gun. Dad bought it at a garage sale and put it in the safe. Don’t believe he ever fired it.

The Auto-5 next to it was dads bird gun. It’s a plain 16g no rib. Paid $120 at Sears for it in 1955 after he got out
of the army. He was deadly with that gun on doves and quail with the 26” IC and had a 30” full choke barrel for ducks and squirrel. I have fond memories of chasing down birds and spent Federal purple hulls as a kid in a hot dove field. There were still boxes of Browning, Canuck and Federal 16ga hulls in dads attic when we cleared it out last year.

Awesome.  I have a Remington too.  Some of the early ones are 303 British b/c we were making them on contract for England and Enfield, but we re-tooled and rechambered to .30 Govt. when we needed our own rifles.  Think I need to complete the hat trick with Winchester  & Eddystone too.  Cool rifle / Piece of history!

Same.  Same.

Also similar to the PSA AK-V.  This pic is from their website, but I have this exact model, and I bought it when it was several hundred dollars cheaper than it is currently.

PSA AK-V 9mm MOE SBA3 Pistol, Gray

Preach!  That's my jam too.  1905, 1907, and 1910 are classic rifles.

Win. should revive some of those older models in updated chamberings.

A 1907 in 5.7x28 or 10mm and a very nice walnut stock would be awesome!!!!!!

*one of my biggest regrets is letting a 1907 .351sl property stamped at Folsom Prison get away.

If my TSLA shorts come in, I'm buying a high-end .45.  Like way high end.  What brand/model do I want?  Wish Staccato made a .45.

Also.  How does one purchase TSLA shorts?

Where do we start - you have the main players:  Wilson, Nighthawk, Les Baer, Dan Wesson, and Ed Brown.  Those are all 1911's.  These are generational pistols if you take care of them.  More accurate than they need to be and milled to exacting specifications (so keep them clean).

HK 23 is a high-end "tactical" option that you can suppress.  CZ Shadow is super clean and of course you have all the crazy modified polymer aftermarket options like Glock.

If I was shopping for one, I have this love affair with the Dan Wesson bobtail with the 4.5 inch barrel.

What's wild, is these early gas-operated rifles and how they operate have changed very little through the ages.  Like most rifles, we are primarily seeing just advances in construction material and calibers.

Take that rifle, shorten the barrel, add a high-capacity mag, and mount optics - and any competent QRC team could clear a house or take a target with it.  They won't love it.  It's heavier and probably not as robust in the field, but at it's core, it's not that different.

Eh - nice pistols for sure but available on most street corners. Nighthawk maybe.

Alchemy and Cabot can enter the chat.

The really good shit is the boutique stuff.

Full disclosure - I sell the high dollar ds1911 stuff so I’m kind of a snob on these guns.

Just go buy a Hayes Custom - you’ll like it more. Or an Atlas.

PM me for more information and a special introductory offer!

Except the 1907 is blowback operated.
