Both great, would prefer a SA/DA with a hammer tho

Those “humpbacks” have thumb functioning hammers - they are just shrouded on the side of the frame.

Here’s a good deal for a Colt Cobra .38 Special - $669.99 with $100 rebate:

I dont know anything about them. I run an AGM Rattler. They’re solid.

Don’t buy into the “600 yard” hype or whatever on thermals. This is a sub 200 yard game for the most part.

384 minimum. 640 preferred. I have a 35-384.

Yeah the flex on long distance is mostly spotting and Hail Marys… fully expect most engagements sub 200.

I was also looking at the Rattler but shop owner thinks this is better value. [emoji2371]

It may be, I just don’t know.

There are only about 4-5 brands I would entertain owing but this isnt necessarily my wheelhouse knowledge wise.

If you want to talk DS1911’s, nobody moves more of those in the country than I do.

@Armybrat what’s your favorite snubnose these days? I’m trying to make up my mind between a Ruger LCR in 327 Magnum, a 357 King Cobra 3” (not exactly snub), and a Taurus 605.

Don’t limit yourself to the above. I’m only gonna get one snubnose, what would you pick and why?

Taurus products are absolute garbage.

I don’t have one because of that reputation but i included it simply because it’s so popular.

My wife is a wheel gun girl. She hates semi autos. She carries a .44 mag in the woods, but in town she carries a stainless S&W model 60 chief’s special.

She loves it and can change you from a rooster to a hen in one shot.

That’s a fantastic suggestion.

I've been researching revolvers and the reviews I've read from recent years is that they are great for the money.  Most negative comments reference Taurus' quality control from the 1970's and 80's.  I ended up buying the 605 and the build is solid.  It's a good value shooter.

There's a metric shit-ton of Taurus Judge's out there and I haven't heard many issues from them.  Wheel guns aren't exactly the most difficult items to produce, especially short barreled ones that are good for keeping you safe pumping gas or walking to/from your car.  Longer range, consistent accuracy isn't really part of the equation.

And for the record, and I have fired a ton of BIG handguns from 454's to .50 Desert eagles.  NOTHING made we want to pack it up and head inside more than those little f'ing .357 hammerless, ultralight snubbies.  JFC it's like grabbing a live wire.  My wrist snapped back.  Loud as hell.  Damn hand near went numb.  Utterly worthless.  After the first shot you are so discombobulated and a follow-up shot is out of the question.

My .357 SP101 at 26 ounces is quite a handful, but not that bad.
It serves as my road trip car gun, and out of the car I carry it in this leather bag with two speed loaders slung over the shoulder like a “man purse”.

As one review I read said, "It wouldn't be .357 Magnum without the ride."

I'm talking those ultralight ones that are half that.  12-13ozs

The SW 340PD. Scandium and titanium.

We’d get those in the shop every once in a while and it was like picking up a piece of paper.

No thanks on those. Or really any revolver - not my cup of tea. If I’m in Alaska sure.

Popped in to add that Mrs. Moose’s model 60 is a .38 special

I would hate to touch off a .357 magnum round in a J frame with a less than 2 inch barrel

No experience with the Rix, but I do like my 3x 384 Rattler which was $2500 last year.

https://outdoorlegacygear.com/products/agm-rattler-v2-ts35-384-3x-24-thermal-rifle-scope

For anything 100 yards and over you’ll be wanting 3x base mag, maybe step up to the low $3k range and get something like this.

https://outdoorlegacygear.com/products/pulsar-thermion-2-xg50-3-24x-thermal-rifle-scope

I really wish I had gone better than 384.  It’s great at 50-50 yards and really runs out of steam at 120-130 yards.

Yeah, the pulsar is a great product… I just didn’t want to spend that much. But you’re probably right and I should just pony up and be done with it as opposed to seeking a Porsche on a Lexus budget.

Too bad us poors had to make do with old junkers like my .30-30 made in 1914…

Battlehawk is the pulsar distributor for refurbished items. Most are just “I changed my mind” or demo units from events. Go there.

Yeah. When I was looking for Mrs. CHIEF a purse gun, I got it in .38. Buddy said if I bought it in .357 she would rather be assaulted.

Yep, I think it is probably the genesis behind the .327mag.  Performance is all about penetration (what she said...).  The .357 is arguably the "best" handgun caliber there is in terms if penetration, terminal ballistics and kinetic energy.  It's what led to the .357Sig and why the FBI was so enamored with the 10mm and the subsequent .40S&W.  Problem is they're all so hard to control and follow up shots are a bitch.

The .327 packs a punch, but is much easier to manage than the .357, but is superior is almost every way to the .38.  It also follows the Golden Rule of firearm manufacturing:  new calibers drive sales and you don't have to reinvent the platform.

The price was right and I couldn’t resist. The 856 snubby .38 special was $299 and the 605 3” 357 was $420. Both from Academy, so no shipping or transfer fees. The .38 is ridiculously comfortable to conceal carry. Both use .38+p so I got that going for me too. This is my wife’s Christmas present to me this year. Go her!7a467d43f92cf3bcffd5db2fded37f5f.jpg

Oh this is awesome… now just need to figure out if the 2X-640 is a better fit for my needs than a 3X base.

I've had an 8 shot Taurus .357 for a while now and it's fine.  I don't shoot it much but to your point, it's hard to screw up a revolver.

anybody have a cz 600 trail? Kinda want to get one in 7.62x39. I really want a scout 7.62x39, or at least something with function iron sights. But thats simply not a product on the market in 2025.

If I eventually put together a long gun platform that’s a solid play, but since I’m slapping the IR on my SCAR, I’m leaning towards the RIX.

Appreciate all the help!

Just buy a Ruger scout and we’ll put in a new barrel. I think it can be done. Or build one from scratch.

Good.  He fired through a closed door with no warning.  About like that neighbor lady on Netflix.

Quote from that link.  If you fire a weapon, you mean for something to happen to somebody.

He fired one shot toward the door. He said the door never opened and he didn’t announce himself or say anything before he pulled the trigger.

When told he had killed Rios, he put his head down on the table and said he didn’t mean for anything to happen to anybody.

I just realized that this is the .357 SP101. Aren’t you a big 327 guy?

I still may buy the SP101 .327 but it doesn’t come shorter than 3”, and that’s why I haven’t bought one yet. I would have already bought one if it came with the same 2.25” barrel configuration that the .357 has above.

My other SP is the 3” in .327.

I can’t imagine how loud the muzzle blast would be with the shorter 2.25” barrel from such a high pressure round.
Maybe stick with the Federal AE 85 grain loads instead of the 100 grain.

My Single Seven .327 is a fun gun.

Ok, but the muzzle blast from a .357 snubbie isnt exactly subtle.

Love that single seven.

Well, I think I have decided the ditch my cheap ATN thermal, and get a clip on thermal. One of my son's best friends lives next door to one of the main guys that owns IRay. I have heard great things about them, but didn't know if anyone, on here, owned one, or is familiar with them. I'm looking at this one:

https://irayusa.com/infiray-outdoor-mate-640-50mm-clip-on-thermal-weapon-sight/

I can probably get it for about $4500. I am tired of having a single rifle dedicated to thermal and with this, I can move it to any rifle with a scope. It can also be used as a monocular.

Full send on iRay. Quality gear.

You will have to co-witness on each gun, but you can save them in settings (gun 1, etc) so just make sure you adjust when you switch guns.

Thanks HC. I was counting on your knowledge and expertise. I was kinda leary, since it is built in China, but CHIEF Jr. swears they are really high quality and made right. I put a 3D printer on my Christmas list, apparently I am usually impossible to buy for. I have two rifles with 50mm objective scopes, but my .300 WSM is a 44mm, and I have a couple of rifles with even smaller objectives. Im gonna use the 3D printer to print adapter sleeves for my different objective sizes.

Check the recoil rating.

I’ll be honest - I’d be very surprised if you need a 300wsm or anything like that for thermal work. I mean if you do then great. I just can’t envision it but all I do is hog stuff under 100 yards. I do want to do some coyote stuff at longer distances but damn nowhere near 300 magnum territory.

Full send though. Sell that ATN and never look back.

My brother got his nephew a martini action 357 last year. Still a little too big for him to shoulder, but he gets a kick out of shooting off the rest. Tore though a 50 count box this afternoon going one at a time. 247afc83a67ec9dd120717710a78d67f.jpg83bf89af3372a23769b1de7d441260a7.jpg

They hit our neighborhood and the one next to us.
Have a few videos and sheriff knows who they are.
Soooo I’m in the market for another EDC.
Looking at the Kimber .380 or Micro 9.
