By your numbers, if they need $10B/yr off 50M subscribers, that works out to about $16/mo/subscriber.

In addition to what you'll read in the rest of the thread, I failed to emphasize in that post that they currently have 2 million subscribers, not 50. That was a hyperbolic best case scenario. They would of course get a lot more subscribers if nobody carried them anymore but probably not 50M.

Even growing by 400% to 10M subscribers means adding current cost to lost revenue offset would require your ESPN app bill to be $110/month almost immediately after they become their own sole source.

Lulz. Like anyone gives a shit about their “talent.” They could have dead air when actual games weren’t on and most of us wouldn’t notice.

  • I was looking at one of my credit cards I let my kids use for Uber, emergencies, vet, etc. apparently I pay for Spectrum, Uverse, Netflix x3, Disney+hulu x2, Hulu, prime, MGM+, peacock, AMC+, esp

  • It's a goddamn shame we never got to the point where you could simply just pay for the channels you wanted and not have to subsidize 90% of shit only 10% of people watch.

Right, and that's only replacing lost revenue. Once they have a captive market then the price hikes to satisfy shareholders really start. Current price plus the above is $55 per month for only ESPN. I don't see any way that if their plan works that they're not at least $100/month within 5 years of being app only.

$200/month sounds insane but thinking it stays at 30 is even crazier.

$100/month? They ain't getting that from me. I love watching sports more than most people, but nah, fuck that. I'll do something else with my time. They can go fuck themselves. I'm not a fucking moron.

if i lived somewhere where it wasn't hot as fuck most of the year i think i would have given up on all of this and found new hobbies already.

Nope, nope, nope. We are not starting that shit here. I work in a high school and I have a middle-schooler at home. Surly is supposed to be my break from this!

Just signed up for Spectrum TV Select plan for $100 a month https://www.spectrum.com/cable-tv. Get's you all the standard Spectrum TV channels plus the stuff below. It links to your current stream app logins and just changes the billing info to "Spectrum". Seems pretty good so far other than no TV app for Chromecast or WebOS. They only have one for Roku or Apple TV.

Tell me more.  Do you have to get a cable box as well or do they have a streaming interface?

I ditched a horrible cable expierence with then and switched to yttv but still use spectrum for internet.  So would be an easy switch. But not going back to theor cable interface.

They still have a pretty crappy app, but it's fine. It's not as good as YTTV's, but it's a little better than it used to be as it keeps up with your frequent channels and recently watched stuff. No DVR though. They are sending me a Xumo box that hopefully is better. I did it mainly for the cost. It's probably saving me $60+ per month.

so what do I have to do tonight if I want to watch the cowboys?  hulu? or the espn app?

Just go hit yourself in the nuts with a hammer. You can get the same experience as watching the game for free.

It's on ABC, so you can just an antenna.

Does anyone know how the Live TV feature works on Amazon prime? I was checking it out and the local ABC channel is an option and works, even though I have YouTube TV. IMG_4521.thumb.jpeg.3cb428eed9a9aee2da1ee5c0ecff715b.jpeg

They have a streamer called a Xumo box that is pretty decent.  It's $5/month, which you can discontinue after a year and keep the box but won't get support or replacement.

There are links. And I did not realize we had so many antenna salesmen here.

Contact a friend overseas and have them send you a link.

That "original local programming" is not gonna be the Cowboy game.  I get the local stations from a variety of streaming services, but they're limited to basically news shows, Today, GMA, etc. plus the 5 and 10 local news.

I’ll give this bullshit a couple of weeks to get worked out. If it’s not, I’ll cancel YTTV and move to direct tv stream. No point in paying for subscription to YTTV and espn

I have the Xumo box and it's pretty good...moving around is much better than I thought...plus, you get all of the ESPNs, which is great.  I think the little cable box is $5/mo.

Wait so if abc isn't on yt tv does Sunday ticket still work?

Yes Sunday ticket still worked fine for me yesterday (all the games were on CBS or Fox).

ABC and ESPN didn't carry any games yesterday did they?

They did not.

So tonight, with my YTTV, I'm going to miss the Cards/Cowboys game (thank goodness).

Perhaps you could reach out to that Nigerian prince who keeps emailing you.

MNF doesn't come with Sunday ticket?

That is correct - SNF isn't part of Sunday ticket either, so if/when NBC and YTTV get into a kerfuffle, presumably no SNF as well.

I’m using it now, but we got a 1 month trial. If I find it doesn’t work for me I’ll cancel. Who knows, maybe there some other programming on there I may enjoy.

Been on it and reasonably happy for years (other than the regular price hikes).  Works great with Roku stick.

I have been happy with it too over the last couple years, except that it's now almost exactly twice as expensive as when I started.  I'm sure that trend will stop any month now though.

Wish i knew. Pixelated. Lag. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app at half.  Same shit.  It looks fine when the camera isn't moving and no action but during plays it is abaolute dog shit.  Yttv isnt great by any means but it is miles better than this.

It seems like I should be thanking YTTV for letting me avoid that Cowboys abortion last  night.

For both sides to not budge with a cowboy game on the line is not exactly reassuring on getting a deal done soon. Hope I’m reading it wrong.

I mean that doesn't take into account increased non-YTTV revenue for people that have switched services until this is resolved (raises hand).
