She got the cuts trying to rescue one of the women when they crossed the river. Dutton had warned her to stay on her horse because panicked (drowning) people will pull those down with them. She didn't listen, got scratched, then had to essentially drown the woman to get free.

January 17, 20223 yr Fortunately they’re nice enough to give us another week off, no new episode Sunday. Gotta keep those monthly charges rolling.
January 18, 20223 yr What was Faith Hill expecting after that "talk" she had with her daughter? At least homeboy got some. Still well short of Amarillo.
January 18, 20223 yr Author I think Ennis died well. He saw Faith Hill and Isabel May bathing together, and then had sex with Isabel May. Tough to top that day. Edited January 18, 20223 yr by billfromlaketravis

January 18, 20223 yr What a shit show of immigrants to be traveling together lol. 5 episodes in and their German leader still isn't a leader yet. Did they ever say how much he charged per head to help them travel? I'm guessing after losing her guy then Elsa turns into a Beth Dutton now.. Edited January 18, 20223 yr by utxmike05
January 18, 20223 yr I am surprised she didn’t walk behind him, shoot out his knee caps and one shoulder socket and then leave him in the dirt to contemplate his limited remaining existence. Or at least the Dad. Then take his guns foods horses etc. 2 captains and their plan was to leave bait to fend for themselves, then ride in late, chase them to their vulnerable population? Did he buy the ranking? And captain sharpshooter doesn’t sit on a ridge with a scope while the others provide a distraction? When did Ennis reholster his pistol?Ah-well. I still like the show, but Ennis and the 5 yr old are my favorites.
January 18, 20223 yr Yeah, leaving the lone wagon with Josef & his old lady for bait was pretty ridiculous.

I was thinking the same....like how did they know 1 guy was going to roll up by himself on foot to the lady? And she was gona handle a pistol that well? Josef should have blasted him as soon as he got there. Reminds me of Dumb and Dumber scene when they shoot harry in the chest..."what if he shot you in the face?"..."yea what if he show me in the face??"..."That's just a chance we were willing to take". January 19, 20223 yr Still a better op than Monica getting herself kidnapped by a dude in an SUV so Mo Brings Plenty could follow them on horseback and shoot the guy from long range after a prolonged and traumatic physical struggle out in the open
January 19, 20223 yr At least six bandits? Let’s give the hidden guy a gun with two shells. I noticed Ennis had his gun back in his holster when dead as well. At least he got some poon before dying. Faith definitely green lit the sex and then acted mad afterwards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think it's at least his Great Grandfather. I think he even mentioned it once on Yellowstone. Tim McGraw - about 40 in 1883. Maybe dies in 1913. The little shit riding along in the wagon looks about 5. If he lived to be 70, he would die around 1948. Little shit maybe has a son around 1900. That guy probably has a son around 1925 and dies around 1975-1980. Son born around 1925 has a son around 1950. He probably died around 2000. Son born in 1950 would be 71 now. Costner's character seems at least 10+ years younger, so that's probably a rounding error. So if I'm close here, I think Tim McGraw would be Costner's great great grandpa. I don't think back in those days people waited to have kids, so I think I'm close. Anyone able to shoot any holes in my theory?

January 21, 20223 yr Just caught the latest episode. Kind of surprised no one mentioned the dramatic change in landscape and weather once they crossed the Brazos near Graham just north of the Clear Fork. Going from the comparatively lush and green Cross Timbers region to suddenly being in what looks like the barren landscape of the Canadian River valley north of Amarillo in late fall/early winter. How the hell did they end up there so quickly when they were supposedly heading southwest toward Abilene?
January 21, 20223 yr I mean, it's a TV show with a lot of episodes to shoot in a more limited amount of time and presumably a more limited number of locations. I doubt they are able to get complete accuracy with landscapes, and they probably figure most non Texans won't notice.

The change was too dramatic in too short of a timeframe for a show that's relied so strongly on showcasing an authentic north central Texas landscape as an additional character in the plot. In the very first scene of the episode, they show the wagon overlooking the river with a wooded ridge on the horizon. Cut to the very next scene and they've obviously (to met) traveled 100s of miles to some desolate and dusty moonscape where the few remaining trees have already lost their leaves. You're probably right that most non-Texas won't notice the dramatic change, but as a Texan I was really enjoying following them along their gradual trek across the state and how the geography was being accurately portrayed. I just found it as a distraction throughout the remainder of the episode.

This is what IMDB shows: I'm almost leaning toward some of those scenes were shot in Montana now, or maybe they did find an unlisted location in Throckmorton where I'll admit I've never been. If so, it's a little more barren than I would've anticipated. Since I don't want to derail the thread, I'll just shut up about the location stuff and enjoy the show.

I was going on what I've read in local media while they were filming. It's quite possible they didn't have the whole story. I threw in Throckmorton because of the 6666, but I wasn't far enough west. That's King County.

My Grandfather's family did the same thing, but they didn't meet until they were both here. He died from cancer when I was really young, so I don't remember any of his stories. But both of them had old time habits mostly about water use. That shit was precious even though they could turn on a tap and get all they needed. It was just engrained to conserve and reuse. This was the view of their camp on fire:
January 22, 20223 yr I would like to know why these Germans likely landed in bustling Galveston and are headed to Oregon instead of central Texas with a well established German community.I enjoyed the scenes of Ft Worth and Hell’s Half Acre. The high society scions have spent decades trying to bury the past and sanitize Fort Worth’s rowdy past. Few here remember that casinos existed along Jacksboro highway until we’ll into the 50’s. My parents would go to the dancehalls around them to see Ray Price, Bob Wills, Lefty Frizzell and others. Willie sold World Books for my grandmother for a short time.
January 22, 20223 yr i don't mind the Texas terrain issues as much as how slooooow they're moving. half of them are dead or left behind and they've gone what, maybe...150 miles? lol very silly. having said that...i do still like Elsa's story and that was pretty sad even though you could see it coming since the second episode. so it was cold enough for the horse's breath to produce steam...yet the ladies were just hanging out in the river chitchatting? okaaay 😄 somebody mentioned what name Elsa's baby would take, if they even knew what Ennis' surname was...assuming she did get pregnant (which seems obvious given how much time they've already spent on the possibility)... i wonder if Yellowstone John Dutton is descendant from her? like if her baby just took her name? for that to happen i'd guess little boy John would have to die...which would be a good reason for Margaret's lamentations and grief we saw in the previews..."i'll never forgive you for this!!" and such to James...hmmmm 🤔 bet.
