Leylah was up 5-1, 40-15 to force a decider against Alexandrova, blew it all.

Petra/Teichmann in a second set breaker, Jil took the first.

Naomi out in straights to Zhang, she just don't give a fuck.

Hot Sorana battled past Belinda in 3.

Venus sucked, water is wet.

Sofia won 3 games total against Shelby.

Serena v. Emma may or may not happen in a few hours.

University of Florida tennis player Ben Shelton just upset #5 Casper Ruud today in straight sets. I think this will help make his decision about turning pro or not easier

Lack o' effort. That was supposed to be on Center after Rafa, but they had to move it. Weird to basically fucking quit up a set.

Sabalenka doing Sabalenka things on the first two points as she teies to serve out the match, but Shelby Rodgers responds with 3 straight unforced errors before Sabalenka hoist a winner for the match.

Damn, it's gonna be at fucking Dickies. That's unexpected.

In Ft Worth? Yoooo I live in Tarrant county. Guess I’m going

So after Ft Worth it’s going back to China next year. I guess the WTA is ending it’s ban on Chinese events next season. Peng Shuai must be doing well

Simona is divorcing her rich-ass husband after a year, likely because of Mouratoglou, now she gets a new honker.

And Emma beat Dayana, who hurt herself in the last game.

Mouratoglou is bad news. I thought you were joking about the nose but good for her, she needed it in more ways than one.

Mourataglou must be a charmer since his students always end up dating him at some point

That is fucked up.  I know they’re young adults but that guy seems like a real piece of shit.

Probably deserves its own thread, but Roger Federer just announced his retirement from tennis. Laver Cup next week will be his final event

Will address Roger in another post, but in the meantime, WTA gonna WTA.

UPDATE:

Chair umpire just called the ball OUT for Friedsam to hold serve on a ball that absolutely looked to clip the line, but they are using humans to call lines and it looked like it just fell on the chair umpire’s side of the line, but still on the line.

Humans should never call lines anymore.

SIDE NOTE: Emma’s left thigh is wrapped from her her loins(?) all the way down to just above her knee.

Some points Emma looks like a future Top 10 player and some points she looks overpowered by Friedsam.

Roger was tennis for a while after Sampras and Agassi were declining and left.  While Roddick was really really good he never could be on that level and guys like Safin couldn’t do it.  The craziest thing in retrospect is how quickly Nadal joined the conversation, and how long it took Djoker to do so.  I think it was 2010 or 11 before he just became a total threat and ground up the tour.

It’s the end of an era.  Nadal is still incredible (I think I have flipped and he is my goat) but he maybe has one or two more French opens in him.  Djoker probably has a few more years and will win more majors almost certainly, but Alcaraz, Rune, Medvedev, Berrettini etc just don’t move the needle like the big 3 did for me.

Somehow Fed didn’t hang on too long although 41 certainly seems like it.

Here's McEnroe and Borg talking about how special Roger is. Something really touching about this - two legends talking about a legend.

32-year old Wickmayer sends 17-year old Linda F. home from Seoul in straights.

Rybakina/Samsonova underway in Tokyo, Emma v. a no-name next in Seoul, we’ll see which one TC picks.

2 & 4 for Samsonova.

Emma had 2 MPs on serve for a clinching bagel, then dropped 4 straight for some drama. Safely through now though.

RF's last match is going to be doubles with Rafa at the Laver Cup. Normally participants have to play at least one singles match also but obviously since it's his tournament little waving that. From what I gather the match will start around 3pm Friday afternoon our time on the tennis channel.
