the highlands have gotten 3-5 inches of rain the past 36 hours so that's great.

Rain needs to happen west/north west of Lake Travis for it do any good. Most of the rain we recently had has been to the south and east of the Highland Lakes.

Basically we need a hurricane to park itself over Llano for about a week.

yeomans had a graphic last night showing the 3-5 inches i was talking about, i think it was zoomed in around llano?  he said portions of SE llano county got 10+ inches over the past week.

We're getting decent rains in mostly the right areas.  It's just not running off yet.  We need a lot more, in quicker succession, to make a dent in the lake levels.

Basically, we need very heavy flooding to move the needle much.  And that comes with its own set of problems.

Here is what the soil moisture for Central Texas looked like before today.  I think this only updates once a day so it will be interesting to see what it is tomorrow or when it updates next.

What a difference a day makes.  Most of the rain the Hill Country gets over the next week should eventually make it's way into the rivers and lakes.  This is how a drought is busted.

Today was supposed to be the one day it didn't rain in Houston. Been pouring sideways and thundering every 5 seconds outside my office window for 20 minutes now.

Yep.  This weather sucks.  77057 has had almost 13 inches of rain this month.  And more than a 50% chance of rain the next 10 days.

Great rain in the Triple Six. River needs it.

Oh, and poor babies. Your Lexus might get wet. We are in severe drought. Bring on a TS.

I'm happy it's raining on you every day.

Can't wait for them to start complaining about the humidity. And mosquitoes. And traffic. And white trash aggy neighbors.

You chose to live there.

I Live in the woodlands so all of this hits very close to home.

Nice little cell coming up from the SE.

Getting a good downpour in south Austin.

My app didn’t indicate we would get much of anything today but it’s been coming down steady in 78745 for a while, and the radar says it might sit here for an hour+. I am pleased and will celebrate with a pour of rare breed.

Is that shit actually holding together? My app forecasts went from practically zero rain to 1.5” since I looked earlier today. I put out a bunch of things I don’t want to get wet and rang a dinner bell for the storm just to entice it

Loving all that blue and purple esp in the lake Travis watershed

Just hope this doesn’t flood Shoal Creek too much, son and I were checking out some of our preferred fishing spots today, and I noticed that it looked like bluegill were spawning in large numbers - lots of nests.

Funky looking cloud was hanging around the Hancock HEB. Tried snapping a pic, but it doesn't really capture how fucking dark it was

I went to that HEB this morning so this hits close to home.

Okay, so I'm not on any drugs...but we can all agree that rain cloud looks like Baby Yoda, right?

Also, consistent downpour here in near South Austin for last 45 mts+

Don’t know why I can’t just keep my fucking mouth shut.

Still a pretty cool pic

Flood advisories over the Highland Lakes watersheds.  If these storms hold together for a while, they may be upgraded to warnings.  Those are moving north into the Buchanan Basin.

In 8th grade I played tennis with a girl who was an early-developer. She was wearing a hypercolor t-shirt and her boobs changed color and it was awesome.

We were at Antone's last night when the rain was rolling in... had thought of getting some food from the food trucks across the street so we ran across, turned around, looked at the shelf cloud and said "F that".  What a good welcome soaking!

Lake LBJ and Lake Buchanan may get small bumps over the next few days. We really need more storms over the area while the soil is still wet.

Got a couple of inches in the 78640 last night.  Got hit with a couple of systems.  The first one was pretty intense and caused some street flooding around a couple of construction areas.  Some of the run off was serious enough that they closed the road.

This is based on the hurricane in the Pacific like I mentioned before.

Man, what a difference 25-50 miles can make.  This model results in likely minimal movement for the Highlands.

Even the slightest movement north and Travis could easily go up 15-20’

Edited by Chet Steadman

Agreed, but the potential event is still several days away.  Things can and will change.  Any rain that falls in the Highland Lake's basins should be runoff.

Long range forecast is just getting lazy now. For every 88/75 day with 58% rain chance that falls off the front, they just tack one back on to the end.

For Austin folks, what are we looking at for game tomorrow.  Seems like scattered throughout day maybe clearing out at night based on what I'm seeing online but curious if any of the TV guys have made any more precise predictions on likelihood of significant rain pre and during game (bringing kids pregame through hopefully first half at least).

I heard high chances so I'm packing a poncho but would rather there aren't issue so Longhorn City Limits and the festival is blowing and going...

Two nights ago yeomans said scattered storms at kickoff.
