I fucking loved that guy and the turnaround he implemented in a single week after Manny. RIP Gerg

Definitely a guy that was highly original. College football is better with guys like that.

Well, shit. RIP and Hook 'em.

He was the last DC we had worth a shit. I would pay him and Akina to just be on campus and around the team.

Dude got results as a DC. Much respect for him. RIP

Damn…he seemed to be a great and well respected defensive coach. He’s been taken way too young. RIP coach.

RIP.

Although I think you hired him today/now, he'd still be a better defensive counselor than what we've had the past 10 years.

Robinson was hired by Texas on July 17, 2013, as a football analyst to "handle quality control evaluation for the team, provide team video review, oversee the Longhorns self-scouting and provide assistance in opponent scouting."[10] Less than two months later, the Longhorns' defense allowed Brigham Young University to rush for a record-setting 550 yards in the second game of the 2013 season. The following day, Texas head coach Mack Brown described the defensive performance as "unacceptable" and removed Manny Diaz from the position of defensive coordinator.[11] Robinson was promoted to take his place.

As defensive coordinator, Robinson was able to turn one of the worst defenses in the Big 12 to one of the best in a shockingly short amount of time, especially considering his 2-year absence from coaching preceded by high-profile failures at Syracuse and Michigan.[12] By the end of the season, Texas led the conference in sacks.[13] The turnaround was clearly evident in the 2013 Alamo Bowl, in which Texas took on the Oregon Ducks and their elite offense. Oregon's offense was #2 in the country and averaged over 45 points scored per game. Robinson's Texas defense held the Oregon offense to one touchdown and 3 field goals for a total of 16 points. No defense gave up fewer points to Oregon in 2013. However, poor offensive play by the Longhorns only yielded one touchdown and allowed Oregon's defense to score two additional touchdowns by returning intercepted passes. Oregon went on to win the game 30–7 despite the excellent performance by Robinson's defensive unit.

Following the end of the 2013 season and the departure of head coach Mack Brown, new head coach Charlie Strong announced that Vance Bedford (Strong's defensive coordinator from his previous job at the University of Louisville and a former star player on the Texas defense) would take over as the defensive coordinator at Texas. Robinson was not announced as part of the new staff.

I had forgotten that our defense was lights out against Mariota. It was Case McCoy and the Dirty Bandits that couldn't get it done.

Damn that's sad.  He worked a miracle in the weeks leading up to the OU game.

(Edit: they scored 63 points the year before; 20 in 2013)

Shit, he was young at 70 and in good shape, but fucking Alzheimer's.

He was only here a short time but I always liked hearing him speak at those coach luncheons and around campus he was always walking with a handful of players to spend more time getting to know them instead of just hanging out with other coaches.

RIP, Coach.

Damn good DC.  Really did a good job against air raid and spread teams.  Solid coach of fundamentals.  Plus he and Tomey brought a lot of toughness we needed in his first tenure here.

Greg was my favorite Texas DC, his 2004 defense was stout and he did an amazing job cleaning up Iaz's cluster fuck of a defense in no time.

Man, he could coach defense. He will be missed.

Shit. Loved that guy. Really brought fire to our team during both of his stops in Austin.

Crap. I didn't even realize he was that old. RIP Gerg

Whenever things were down, it was always encouraging to think the Horns could bring back Greg Robinson and get things moving in the right direction defensively.  Now that hope is forever gone.  RIP Gerg.

70 is way too young

especially from Alzheimer’s.  wonder how long he had been suffering.

what an absolutely horrible disease.

RIP coach.  Your time in Austin was appreciated more than you will ever know.

Wow, sports world taking too many hits lately, RIP Gerg[emoji869]

I must say he was a bit younger than I would have guessed, (not much) but too soon to check out regardless.

Fuck Alzheimers right in the ass. My mom is going down the same path, and visiting her this holiday season at her memory care facility was the first time I sensed that she doesn't really understand who I am, so I've been dwelling on the topic a bit too much the last couple of months. I'd choose almost any other fate.

God bless and RIP, Coach Robinson. Thank you and Dick Tomey (RIP) for helping to change the culture.

RIP 🤘🏼Great coach and man!

Fuck Alzheimer’s and Dementia!
