Had no idea this existed before. What kind of shithole has this as their top tourist attraction? Turkmenistan evidently.

Hope Solo is concerned.

First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

They can stand those scientists up there, and hopefully they won't back down.

I have a feeling they'll stand their ground.

Well aren't you a heartbreaker.

first heard about this back in the 2000s and couldn't believe it was a real thing.  i imagine putting it out would involve lots of sand suffocating the fire but how do you cover the entire area without melting whatever aircraft is spreading the material?  also what happens to the gas that's there, it'll release into the atmosphere unless we find a way to trap it.

so.....where was all this gas before the land above it caved in? why can't some enterprising person/company come up with a solution to monetize that free source of energy?

i would think it's a bigger challenge to control mother nature than to harness it.

It's like the Centralia mine in Pennsylvania that has been burning for almost 60 years and expected to burn 100+yrs.... attemps have all failed over the years to extinguish it.

'The Gates of Hell', may at last be snuffed out after the country's autocrat ordered scientists to find a way to extinguish it.

I bet the guy is a nutty paranoid Christian that takes it all a little too literally.

Only burning since the 70s? That’s nothing,  Pennsylvania’s Centralia mine fire has been at it since the 60s.

Stull, KS is the real gates of hell. If the pope can't fly over KS and Knute Rockne died flying over KS. And we keep losing to KS.....it deems that state as cursed.

College Station has been a burning cesspool since the late 1800's.

Gurbanguly Malikguliyevich Berdimuhamedov is absolutely the craziest leader of the craziest gotdamn country in the world, and I include North Korea in that statement. But he isn’t a Christian, he’s (kind of) a Muslim. Anyway, this is him as he wants the world to see him.
