I remember reading about this in 2012 thinking if there ever was a James Bond/Jason Bourne type of hit, this was it. Family was shot execution style and innocent cyclist also killed because he was a witness. Nothing ever came from it until now. They finally arrested someone. Will be interesting to learn about the motive.

PARIS -- A suspect in the 2012 slayings of a British-Iraqi family vacationing in the French Alps and a cyclist has been detained, a French prosecutor said Wednesday.

Saad al-Hilli, his wife Ikbal and his mother-in-law Souhaila al-Allaf were shot dead on a remote mountain road near Annecy in eastern France. French cyclist Sylvain Mollier was also killed in the shooting. Al-Hilli’s two young daughters, who were in the car at the time of the shooting, survived the attack.

Prosecutor Line Bonnet tweeted that a person has been placed in police custody in the Chambery region “in connection with the investigation into the murders of the al-Hilli family and Sylvain Mollier, known as the ‘Chevaline events’ of Sept. 5, 2012.”

...

The prosecutor has said 25 gun cartridges that were found inside the family vehicle. All those killed were found with at least three bullet wounds, each with one single shot to the head.

Thanks for posting. Be interested in seeing more too. Can't believe that was almost a decade ago.

Actually, would love an "unsolved mysteries" thread. This is an interesting story. So is the killing somewhere up in north Texas with the person in full police riot gear killing a yoga teacher in a church? And the San Marcos apartment fire that killed several and is unsolved. And the student who went missing outside of Luling a year ago when driving home.

Sorry, we're still stuck on the unsolved mystery of "why in the hell did Greg Davis never utilize DJ Monroe?"  Never got past that one, really.

That's the biggest mystery? How the hell did we lose to Kansas twice in less than a decade?

I remember that story from TOS. Can’t believe that was 9 years ago….

The luling one is crazy. Police asked a friend of mine to search his land looking for that kid.

I need closure on that Austin dude who would up dead in Port Aransas.

This is a brand new San Antonio case that I feel is getting cold already. My initial thought was it’s the parents. What parents leave their 3 year old girl unattended at an apartment playground for 20 minutes?

Weird that the dad quit his job to search for his daughter. 99% of employers would give you time in this situation. He’s also making the odd assumption she won’t be found within a couple of days like the vast majority of missing persons. It seems like it’s for show. He’s definitely guilty.
