Just curious to learn what interesting (i.e., pop culture, musical, athlete, etc.) potential kids' names were vetoed by the spouses of Surlists. I am not curious about how you wanted to name a child after one family member but were unsuccessful for whatever reason, at least not if there isn't a cool story to go with it.

I wanted to name Doomlet Jack Burton [Doom] after Big Trouble in Little China, Franklin after Help->Slip->Franklin by the Grateful Dead, or possibly Fletcher after Fletch F. Fletch.

He is not named after any of those things.

Didn’t have a boy but I suggested these boy names:

Bodhi - from Point Break

Cooper Smith - I thought a surname for both the first and middle names would be cool.

Luger - no kid named Luger has ever gotten his ass kicked at school.

No horseshit, Prepuce?

My dad claimed to have once beaten up Dick Lugar in a bar scuffle in Angola, IN decades ago.  Is that anything?  Of course, then came along Cock Beretta and fucked everybody up.

My son is a fourth.  Not a lot of good nicknames for 4s so I pushed real hard to call him Cuatro but was unsuccessful.

I hope you call him Kuato instead.

We were going to name our oldest girl Charlotte Alexandra.   Wife was having one of those preggo no sleep nights and googled Charlotte Alexandra.   Turns out that was a 70’s French porn star.  So we went with Charlotte Elizabeth instead.  Girl #2 is named Alexandra.

Jack Bauer for our son was rejected.

Leia for our daughter was rejected.

Had a friend recently who want his son to be called Sterling Archer, but his wife wouldn't go for it.

Thankful every day of my life that my dad convinced the birthing device to name me after her 2nd favorite late '50s teen idol. There was no way a skinny little Danish kid in MN named Elvis wasn't getting his ass kicked on the daily. Twice a day when I got to Austin as a teenager.

Wanted my boy’s middle name to be Gilmour after Pink Floyd’s guitarist.

Mom flatly rejected it. And then he got Dylan which is just awful.

Wanted to name my daughter a classic name like Elizabeth or Victoria. But we got a trendy name.

No worries, Dion. Austinites look out for each other.

I wanted 3 kids names Austin, Houston, and Dallas. I got 33% of my wish.

Hah! That would have been almost as bad.

I went 1 for 1 with our oldest son. My maternal grandfather's first name and their family name as the middle, as my mom had 3 sons, but everyone else had daughters.  That's the end of the line, beeyotches..  It has always sounded awesome and pretty much the rest of the family hated my ass for grabbing both names in one shot.  Oh fucking well...LOL.

Wife picked younger son's name with her grandfather's name and my first name as the middle.

We spent no more than 20 minutes or so on naming both kids.  Never have had any regrets.  Have always thought they had had great names to live up to.

I spent 4 years telling everyone we were going to give my first born a family name my wife did not like. So in the delivery room, when she once again protested the family name, I suggested Nolan, which was the real name I had always wanted. Nolan is 18 months old.

long game.

So Prepuce is a family name?

Aaron Kyle was a corner for the Cowboys back in the day and I’ve always liked the name, wife not so much.  As a compromise, we kept Kyle for the middle name.

My first ex was convinced that our first would be a girl so she agree I could name him John Wayne if it wasn’t.  It turned out to be a boy, but John Wayne got shot down so now he is a III.

I have the opposite-

My ex wanted to name our son Eamonn. I was like "Amen"?  I was not a fan. Told her that I get the middle name if she was going to claim the first.

She could sense trouble was brewing.

Her: (suspiciously) "What middle name are you thinking of?"

Me: "hmmm, Danger...Trouble...no, I've got it!  F'n!  He can be Eamonn F'n Nugent!"

Her: "Fine, we won't name him Eamonn."

We didn’t have a boy, but all of my suggestions got shot down:

Maximiano (family name)
Sergio
Kleber

Well, I guess that isn’t totally true. She was good with Gabriel, so our first girl is named Gabriela.

For my son, I, being mostly Scots-Irish in ancestry, have always liked celtic names.  My wife vetoed Eoghan Padraig as being too foreign sounding, so I countered with the anglicized Ian Patrick.  Shot down on the initials I. P.  Settled on Sean.

Cornbread would’ve been cool, Hondo maybe?

Lost the fight on our first son, I wanted Cullen.  She got Dalton.  Won on the first girl with Savannah.  By the time our daughter and last son arrived I was over it.

Chief

My son, now 26 years old, was considered to be named Tucker by my ex.  I countered that his future buddies would drop the T and replace it with an F.  Ex did not care for that possibility.

However, his initials still turned out to be BMF.

With a name like Savannah, you’ve already set yourself back on your fatherly duties. Make sure she doesn’t make friends with anyone names Mercedes or Destiny.

Wife and I are both teachers so lots of names were immediately eliminated because of negative experiences with students.

My first was born two weeks after the Mavs won their NBA title. I pushed real hard for Dirk.

Is your wife aware that you named your daughter after the stripper that gave you a lap dance the night before she gave birth?

Vince was firmly rejected by the birthing person.  I eventually named a dog that though.

A dog? Username checks out.

I used to work with 2 brothers named Austin and Houston. They were from East Texas. I bet their mom aborted Dallas.

So Liberace worked better for you?

I pushed for Latarian Milton, but was shot down.

Oh well, Two Dogs Fucking, still enjoys doing hood rat stuff with his friends.
