January 18, 20223 yr Due to a flight cancellation I’m stuck with a 9 hour layover at Houston Hobby on Thursday. I’m not going to sit in the airport that long. My original thought was I would find an outdoor restaurant/bar patio but now the weather is going to be in the 40’s. So open to suggestions on any restaurant/bar where we can hang out for 5 or 6 hours or any other suggestions for something to do.
January 18, 20223 yr There's some seedy titters on Telephone Rd that would be happy to take your money
January 18, 20223 yr Take an 8 mile Uber to Killen's BBQ then go hang at Hometown Sports Bar & Grill?
January 18, 20223 yr Head a few blocks up Broadway, get a bench, and people watch? Since OP has plenty of money I'd suggest hiring an uber black and going to Kemah.
January 18, 20223 yr If you want to play tourist, you could visit Space Center Houston. It's pretty cool/interesting. https://spacecenter.org/ If you just want to chill (literally and figuratively given weather forecast), perhaps dicker around at the Kemah boardwalk (numerous restaurants/bars and carnival type stuff). https://www.kemahboardwalk.com/

Excellent BBQ and they have a full bar and plenty of TVs.
January 18, 20223 yr I find myself at Hobby airport once a week and the best thing I do in that neighborhood is get the fuck away from it as quickly as possible.
January 18, 20223 yr Author Yeah space center could be a real possibility. Haven’t been since the 80’s.
January 18, 20223 yr Had a service rep mistakenly book a room by hobby. First week, they stole the wheels off his rental twice. LuLz

January 18, 20223 yr Uber up to EADO for lunch somewhere. Lots of good options. There are some fun breweries and bars in the area too. Maybe check out Pitch 25 (big giant bar full of tvs and all sorts of games to play).
January 18, 20223 yr If your into the arts, it’s only 11 miles to the museum district. Zoo is right there as well.

January 18, 20223 yr If you are a golfer and don’t mind hauling your clubs around, go play golf at Gus Wortham in Eado. My app says high of 59 on Thursday. Unless it’s too windy that’s about my favorite temperature for golf.
January 18, 20223 yr Grab a bite to eat at the Tel-Wink Grill or at Dot Coffee Shop if old-school diners are your thing.
January 18, 20223 yr NASA is "close". Much nicer part of town to wait it out in. You can do a lot worse than eating lunch/dinner and touring Space Center Houston. Edited January 18, 20223 yr by billfromlaketravis
January 18, 20223 yr Not sure how old you are, but if you want a trip back to the 80's... https://gamepreservehouston.com/ The Game Preserve - NASA 20810 Gulf Freeway, Suite Z, Webster, Texas 77598, United States
January 18, 20223 yr Uber to Kemah Boardwalk or Space Center Houston is probably the best call. 40 minute ride, hang out for several hours, 40 minute ride back per Google Maps (depending on traffic). Better than staying in the airport, and as noted before the immediate vicinity around Hobby sucks (Telephone Road holla). Figure an hour travel on each end.

January 22, 20223 yr Author Well it was way too cold so we ended up never leaving the airport. Thanks for all the suggestions. We found this on the walkway from gates 1-5 and sort of hung out there.
January 22, 20223 yr Author We ate Pappadeaux. And drank. @tx 3 putt Edited January 22, 20223 yr by justhookit
January 22, 20223 yr I had no idea something as valuable as a zero gravity chair would last near Hobby airport without being bolted to the floor.

March 16, 20232 yr Spent the day at Space Center Houston. I’d been before maybe 20 years ago. Still super nerdy cool. The retired Mission Control (1950 - 1995) has been restored to its 1970 Apollo state. The whole room looks like the staff just went to lunch. There is a 10 minute simulation of the first moon landing. Absolutely bad ass. zoom in for cigarettes I had a great time and my kid had a great time.
