  • Either way with regard to speculation whether it’s Gandalf or not, I don’t like half of these opinions half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of them half as well as they deserve.

Dude killed it on GOT. My favorite scene was Tower of Joy.

He was about as good as you could hope for in a young Ned Stark, relative to Bean.  And he nailed that exaggerated Yorkshire accent the same way Bean did.

You know what I liked?  When we never mentioned that stupid show ever again in the Rings of Power thread.

It's going to happen in any fantasy genre TV show discussion. GoT broke a lot of barriers and raised the bar for all TV show production value expectations. It brought a lot of new people to the genre who never really cared about it before because even if you didn't like it for what it was, it was obviously very high quality. RoP compared to it in that regard has held up very well so far, and will continue to be compared to that standard.

Just wanted to say I have enjoyed RoP tremendously.  Never caught any aforementioned sexuality/ woke/ political undertones.  Zero.

It IS damned  good story telling. I find the characters and plot lines compelling; but then again, WTF do I know?

If I had to pick one word, “polished”.  4 episodes in, which means the season is half over, and the music is still awesome, cinematography, sets, and cast are great.

And Galadriel is getting her army.

I'm watching this and House of Dragons and this show is far more interesting and compelling.

This is funny cause the Tolkien nazis who hate this show think HoD is the better series. That thing is sucks so far.

So we’ve had an episode where Elrond was not present, and now one without Harfoots, and it hasn’t hurt the series at all.

Harfeet?

The Galadriel chick gets too monotonous and pompous to me sometimes, but it is kind of fun to see her this way because by the time we read about her in TLR trilogy, she is beyond reproach and highly respected by all, especially other elves.

She was a fucking annoying bitch know-it-all for a while though.

In elf terms, a he’s basically a teenage in this period. She acts like it too - she’s rebellious, she doesn’t listen to authority, she’s impetuous and stubborn and she’s kind of just a bitch

Maybe, but she also showed maturity by listening to the dude in the jail cell. She made a plea to the queen and it worked.

Galadriel is like 5000 years old in this show, she's not a teenager even by elf standards, but that's how the show is portraying her. It's a fine adjustment to build around, since there really isn't that much history established for her character.  Maybe going through a few wars and seeing the destruction of large swaths of Middle Earth changed her in the next 1000 years.

The sexualization is annoying and a distraction. And a serious departure from the movies. I'm probably posting this take in the wrong place so go ahead and neg me - but Earien is too hot. It's fucking stupid. If I want to watch porn I'll go watch porn. She's extremely pretty in a very sexual way and her big tits only compound it. It just feels out of place. Couple that with Bronwyn having her tits hang out all over the place during that last episode and it's pretty cringy.

Galadriel, for example, is a perfect casting. She's stunning - but in a very classy, powerful way. Earien by comparison looks like a playboy bunny. I weep for anyone that needs shit like that to get into this show - and I'm not holding it against the actress - but that's a serious miscast. It isn't in the spirit of Tolkien or the PJ movies - granted I'll of course forgive it because everything else is incredible.

well hell, I'm definitely watching this show now

If that is why you are tuning in you will sorely disappointed. It’s not even close to what was represented in that post. Not even close.

I was planning on watching it anyway. Just don't have the TV time during football season. I was a LOTR nerd many years ago. Also liked the three LOTR movies. (I won't mention those dogshit Hobbit movies). At some point I'll start bingeing.

Hot, busty elves was just a bonus.

The show is awesome. I was just nitpicking a couple things I felt weren't in the spirit of the PJ movies or books. But it's allowed to be its own thing - and I think on the level it's maybe better off for it.

If we are talking about hot actresses, the one who plays Bronwyn is the same lady Nazanin Boniadi that played Clare Quayle in Counterpart... where she got hella nekkid multiple times.

Watching episode 4 now. Some dork introduces himself to Earien and her tracts of land, and it sounded like his name was "Kevin." Lol, what a stupid name, I thought, but no, it's "Kemen." Now I'm not sure which one is worse.

Just be glad it wasn’t Kayden.

That Galadriel scene at the court of the queen reagent felt short, and setup to fail. How many times did we see grand presentations, riveting speeches and compelling arguments in LotR to forge the Fellowship and win over others to help the cause?  We can't even get that from her, just some ominous threat of Sauron? C'mon, even if the reagent didn't bite, there should be more to that scene. This is exactly why people criticize the Galadriel character, she doesn't give you much to love. She's a fucking robot on a mission.

I'm guessing there was a good reason that mine was off limits. MEEthril is great though, gonna make some good armor with that, and they're gonna need it...

Story would have gotten bogged down with his parents telling us all about how he’s the best player on his select baseball team but he doesn’t play much because the coach plays favorites

The wife and I tried to start this when it came out but honestly had no interest, despite both being LOTR fans.

Decided to bite the bullet on Monday and finished the first 4.  Really enjoy it. The production quality is amazing for a TV show.

Also really great copy for a Gold Bond advertisement campaign.

Okay, I saw this idea--don't know if it's strong enough to call a theory--and I didn't think much of it.  But I watched FoTR and TTT the past couple of nights, and tonight I'm watching RoTK.  And the more I watch, the more I'm wondering.  Regarding Adar and that scar (deformity?) on his face...

Shouldn’t be seeing a balrog in this series. There’s over 1000 years between Durin IIIs reign and Durin VI when Moria is abandoned.

Yeah but they're already playing with the timelines, because they don't have access to a ton of the source material from the time period they're writing about so they're having to blend and shift things around based on the characters mentioned in the source material they DO have access to.

I pretty much expect to see the balrog because it's something the audience is already familiar with and will be an "oh, cool!" moment.

Okay but we are seeing a Balrog.

Wasn't there a balrog in one of the trailers?  I haven't seen it but I've heard that.

I suppose we could see a balrog but it doesn't necessarily have to be Durin's Bane.

Another good episode. The writing is fucking fantastic. Especially the dialogue in Numenor and the Elrond interactions.

Also loved the travel montage with the girl singing in the beginning of the episode. Felt very Tolkieny.
