Mark was unique to put it mildly.  Crazy substance abuse problems.  He stayed out there alone to keep away from the temptation is what my theory always was.  It wasn't out of the ordinary for him to go black for a year at a time.  Dude was always nice to me and my wife the few times we ran into him on the trails.  Quick to introduce himself and shake your hand.

To quote Vincent Vega, "It would of been worth them doing it just so I could of caught them doing it."

I see a nice balmy -22F high today for Fairbanks.

Ya know, I dig cold weather, but fuck everything about this.

But is it a dry -22°? Could be down right pleasant.

I've been in -22 in Colorado. Windshield of -41. Don't have to go to Alaska for it.

Where area of CO? Been considering the Co Springs area, but I think it’s probably more “idea” than action.

Significantly less humidity is quite intriguing, but super super cold on the reg isn’t. 😂

Colorado Springs is fine. Avoid the areas of North Park, Middle Park, and South Park as well as the town of Gunnison.

I saw -14 and wind of about 1000 mph on top of Vail Pass back in 1985. I was oh so happy to get down to Denver.

Username, etc...

I find it better to use a pair of nitrile gloves and go in manually.

That way I can just throw away the gloves instead of keeping a poop infested stick on the wall.

I wash it afterwards.

Do you not have dogs?  I'm picking up poop in a plastic bag 3-4 times a day.

Do any of you guys know bear country? Maybe the builder would know, but I'm wondering what is a problem and what isn't a problem. I've heard trash is a problem, but if you put the trash in the garage, I've heard about cases like:

image.jpeg.176131d559a35bdfdfea0ce0964941f5.jpeg

Still, I think the garage is the answer. I don't have any clue on when people put trash out for pickup or if there is pickup.

And we are doing an addition next year (so I'll probably know the answer by then, but if you guys know)... Is an outdoor dining area possible? Is a grill in a dining area like below possible? Currently, there is induction cooking inside. I don't know much about grilling inside though and I know nothing about how to do it with induction heat. Shit, maybe I should have bought a house in the Caribbean first.

image.png.5df7c07ee4381a1cc97f3559a13ec5d9.png

Now does all this depend on how big of a bear problem exists? Originally, we purchased a lot near Sandpoint, ID and there isn't much of a bear problem there. Then we were going to buy near Yellowstone, but the wife wanted to be near a lake. Finally, we settled on the west side of Flathead lake in Montana. The east side of the lake is closer to Glacier and most of the mountains so it definitely has more bears. But there are bears on both sides and we are a little higher up in elevation for the views and on 10 acres so it is somewhat rural. Hopefully, the views make it all worthwhile.

Got family in Sandpoint...always enjoy my visits there.  They also have land in Clark, MT (about an hour away), on the Clark Fork River , right before the Dam at the lake.  Cool area, we had a bear in the camp a couple years ago , but no problems as they spooked and ran.  I didnt see him, but my dad did.

No HEB is a problem. We make a ton of stuff with the green chili stew and shredded chicken although it seems the wife prefers my tomatillo sauce in some of the recipes.

I was hoping that he would jump on to tell me how big of a nuisance bears are. Obviously, he cooks all the time in his cabin but doesn't have a bear problem. OTOH, we haven't heard from him in awhile.

Or search for websites about bears (some caution may be advisable). Or post your wife's tits. Just stop derailing this thread.

based on my research, bears are attracted to menstruation.   And pik-a-nic baskets.

Bears are no different than people.  By that, I mean that  in some areas they mind their own business and stick to themselves, and in others they're assholes who won't leave you alone.  Then, there's always the lone dickhead who fucks it up for everyone else and needs to be dealt with.

Beyond the standard tips of securing your shit and taking proper care of you garbage, an Alaskan is not going to be able to tell you about a particular area in Montana, anymore than this Minnesotan can..
