July 3, 20187 yr Brian Jones is a good Longhorn, but he never earned the right to wear #60. Probably true, but I will say he was the most physically imposing LB I can remember to ever play at Texas...

July 3, 20187 yr Derrick Johnson?I consider Derrick to be the best UT LB in my lifetime but while at Texas he was fairly skinny. He was tall, about 6-3 but only 205 when he started and around 225 or so when he finished. Jones was 6-1 but 250lbs of muscle and with the huge shoulder pads they wore during that era he was the most physically imposing imo...

July 3, 20187 yr Negative. The answer for most physically imposing linebacker in UT history is Scott Derry.Lmao, he was all time favorite whipping boy. Can still see him mugging the line and getting swept away in the wash not unlike my tears were that night against Rice in 1994

Nice. Very nice.

I'm not going to fault Dusty Renfro for not turning down the chance to wear the number of a Longhorn legend, but there are other linebackers who played at Texas for four years at a much higher level who never got the opportunity to wear No. 60. DD Lewis, Roderick Muckleroy, and Keenon Robinson come to mind.

I think he earned the right to wear it for a game. Derrick Johnson could definitely have worn it for a couple of seasons. Edited July 3, 20187 yr by Tex Pete

Derrick Johnson could definitely have worn it for a couple of seasons. I don't disagree on Renfro's effort, and he seemed very well-liked among his teammates. But he was also a part of some average to downright shitty defenses during his time in school. Again, I'm not bagging on Dusty, but I'm not sure why he made the cut for what seems like a very high threshold to wear an almost sacred number.

July 11, 20187 yr Forrest Wiegand from the '68 and '69 squads that went a combined 20-1-1 while winning a national championship, the SWC twice, and the Cotton Bowl twice.
