February 22, 20223 yr I am interested in learning more about “cloud hosting” for a small business server. Our office (12 daily users, 4 remote) operates on a local machine running Windows Server 2012 R2. It is inevitable that the server will need to be replaced or upgraded (it is six years old), and I wondering at what point it would make sense to move all this to a hosted environment. The current server runs basic Microsoft Office applications, as well as QuickBooks Enterprise, and currently houses less than 600GB of data files. The remote users, who use the server throughout the day, connect via VPN through a SonicWall device. Should I consider moving all this to “the cloud”? We have only had a few hardware issues, but I anticipate this may accelerate as the equipment continues to age. Also, I believe we will be looking at an end-of-life date for Server 2012 sometime next year. Any thoughts or recommendations would be very much appreciated; I’m not sure where to begin. Unfortunately, our small-town IT service providers leave much to be desired, and our small business cannot justify a full-time IT person.
February 23, 20223 yr Aside from all of what you posted, not knowing exactly what model of Sonicwall you are employing, this should be your primary issue today: https://www.rapid7.com/blog/post/2022/01/11/cve-2021-20038-42-sonicwall-sma-100-multiple-vulnerabilities-fixed-2/ Quote Over the course of routine security research, Rapid7 researcher Jake Baines discovered and reported five vulnerabilities involving the SonicWall Secure Mobile Access (SMA) 100 series of devices, which includes SMA 200, 210, 400, 410, and 500v. The most serious of these issues can lead to unauthenticated remote code execution (RCE) on affected devices. We reported these issues to SonicWall, who published software updates and have released fixes to customers and channel partners on December 7, 2021. Rapid7 urges users of the SonicWall SMA 100 series to apply these updates as soon as possible. The table below summarizes the issues found. Edited February 23, 20223 yr by Francisco 2.0
