Just watched the video.  Jesus God.  Shame and cringe don't even begin to describe it.  Has an American president, or any other foreign leader in history, openly lambasted another foreign leader in public like that?  And Vance, the little mutt, piling on for favor from the master.  I just....

Zelenskyy finally lost his cool. Trump and Vance are nasty cunts, just horrific people, but Zelenskyy’s job, for his people, was to smile and take it. It’s completely understandable, he’s a human, but pissing off petty Trump feels like an unforced error.

I disagree.  Every foreign leader needs to be publicly piling on his ass.  No more pussyfooting around.

This is utterly disgusting. It's taken exactly one whole month to isolate ourselves from our allies, including the two that border us, and align ourselves with the likes of Xi, Putin, and Jong IL. I've never been more ashamed and fucking pissed off to be an American and everyone who voted for this fucking shit heap of subhuman filth deserve to be publicly shouted down and shamed. I am at my wits end with this shit, every day is more embarrassing and humiliating on the world stage than the last.

Quoted because I can’t find better words to say myself at the moment.

Fuck, dude. I generally like you and often agree with you, but sometimes you say the weirdest, most naive shit.

That was an ambush. They planned to publicly fuck over Zelenskyy. They wanted a big show to demonstrate a hard turn away from Ukraine (and our allies).

It wasn't about Zelenskyy making Krasnov big mad. This was a statement to the world.

There was no winning that PC.  That Vance was present and had his talking points loaded is all the proof you need. it was a hatchet job to get the compromised GOP to have cover to fall in line.  Nothing more.  Having the Joe Rogan sphere fall in line immediately via Theo Von is a tell.  We threw every advantage away for a shitty hucksters to obtain more wealth.

Weird dumb butterfly effect.  Dumbass Joe Rogan starts a love affair with Elon Musk, gets manipulated by RW propagandists he has no power against intellectually, all his dipshits trying to ride his wave of fame follow suit, a bunch of young bros follow along whilst parroting Russian propaganda they are too stupid to reject.

Republic Toppled by the eat gross bugs guy and the "your fired" clown.

We deserve it; the world doesn't.

Chamberlain, although hopelessly naive, was well-intentioned in his hopes of avoiding war (as was Daladier). This is not that. This is Hitler berating Hácha into giving up the rest of Czechoslovakia.

There was no winning with Trump. Your mistake is believing any decent deal for Ukraine could be made. He is a Russian agent.

As the lone other Pynchon fan, I got that reference.

Back in the 90’s my brother in law was talking to some girl at a humanities grad school type party in Hyde Park. Some kind of pony-tailed, New-Sincerity-scene-adjacent American Studies TA kept trying to work his way in and compete for the lady’s attention, but his efforts found no purchase.

Making a tactical retreat, he found his way to the bookshelf nearby and began perusing the titles, then grabbed one very thick volume and announced in her general direction, “Gravity’s Rainbow? This is my FAVORITE book.”

Suffice it to say he went home alone after he put on a live tape of The Reivers from his car and somebody stopped it and started playing Cypress Hill instead.

Uh, no.

No matter what Z did in that meeting Trump and Vance were going to keep up with their bullshit, just like they planned.

Trump and Zelenskyy are literally the opposite ends of the leadership continuum.  It fucking kills me that Z has to put up with us.  Who knows, maybe the Europeans will see that supporting him is the way to keep their own children off the front lines and step up and give him whatever he needs.  I hope so.

This is probably some of the least important, or maybe consequential, commentary I've read today about the meeting. That said, I still enjoyed reading it and getting this guy's thoughts. Most around here are likely familiar with him, but he's always got an interesting perspective.

Thread of about 15 short skeets or whatever the fuck we call them.

If we have learned nothing, and it appears we have learned somehow less than that in the last 80 plus years, you DO NOT APPEASE A DICTATOR. Zelensky finally had enough. It's time for Europe to fill in the power vacuum. Were I Zelensky I'd make those same mineral rights as part of an offer to Europe. Just give the orange god king and Putin both the middle finger in one fell swoop.

I hope Americans take to the streets in the millions when Trump hosts Putin later this year.

Zelenskyy looks like such a slob compared to our Secretary of Defense emerging from an official government aircraft with the seal of his office on the door.

As for the berating? It was vaudeville for the angry, insecure, white, male idiots who think Trump is just the right tough guy to make them feel tough. Mission Accomplished.

Friday was a setup to make Zelenskyy more of the enemy. And it was obvious that Lil Marco definitely wasn’t in on the plan but has since agreed to it. Now when any Euro country decides to back Ukraine, they are simultaneously publicly opposing Trump. This gives Trump cover to punish Europe for waging war, and for the US dropping out of NATO and pulling all US troops out of Europe.

i suppose if the Euro powers drop Ukraine support, they will be allowed to temporarily retain a relationship with Trump. At least until trumps next demand.

in short Trump is overturning all American foreign relationships since ww2.

From 3 minutes to 5:15 in this clip is the point I was trying to make yesterday.

Exactly right.  if Britain and Germany had gone to war at that time, Britain would most surely have lost the Battle of Britain.  They needed a huge amount of luck to win it as it was.   Most people don’t realize that building a Spitfire was a very long process at the beginning of the war and their aircraft assembly production lines were a few years away from being able to produce the numbers  they needed.   It was far more difficult for Britain to create that unique wing than pumping out simpler and cheaper older design Hurricanes (or Germany its Messerschmitt bf190s.)

While Chamberlain wanted to avoid war, there was also a pragmatic reason for wanting to avoid it if possible at that time.  they still had a lot of bi-planes.   The 11 months from “peace in our time” to the declaration of war with Germany also allowed the chain home radar station to be built as well.

There are at least extenuating reasons for Chamberlain’s thought process. There are absolutely none for Trump’s, other than him being a Russian asset.

Molotov-Ribbentrop was the same. Stalin, the (not very good) military supply micromanager, estimated they needed to get to 1943 before the war started to be able to defeat the Germans.

I know the answer but why isn’t Trump turning their ire toward the ppl who actually approved the Ukraine funding. The 31 gop senators and 100+ gop house reps.

Becasue he needs them for more nefarious domestic tasks.

Zelenskyy's response starts at the 1-minute mark. He sidesteps it but astutely mentions the relationship between his people and ours, but you can see the pain in his eyes.

His legacy shall be a ruin, and his name shall be a slur.

JD Vance brings SDE wherever he goes.

watched one clip from yesterday, where trump basically says “you’re not being very nice about my good pal putin who stuck by me during some very trying times when people accused us of being good pals.”

then i turned it off like a bad horns game. never underestimate trump’s ability to make everything about his victimhood.

the fact that the country and the world is not more shocked kinda says everything.

Can we have Zelensky as our president? You can tell how much he cares for the people he governs. It's not just lip service.

Yesterday was awful. Up there as one of the worst days in American history in my lifetime after 9/11. I also refuse to believe this is the final chapter of U.S.-Ukrainian relations for the next four years, so how do we unfuck this short of POTUS having a coronary?

POTUS having a coronary doesn’t unfuck this as the couch fucker is right behind him.

It wouldn't solve anything overnight, but it's the necessary first step.

Plus, there is no cult of JD Vance. I think you'd see some fevers break.

Coached my son's first spring soccer game this morning. At halftime a mom came over to talk to me and her kid, they were speaking a different language. I asked her where she was from, she said Ukraine. I instinctively slumped my shoulders and said "I'm sorry..." She knew where I was going, and politely said thank you and "it's a mess". Felt sick to my stomach. So embarrassed of our country.

I just can't keep thinking about the Fox News interview video above. The pain in Zelensky's eyes showing that he feels like he failed. All he wants to do is save the lives of his people and he was given hope by our shitgibbon in chief and was subsequently humiliated by us. It haunts my thoughts and I am so disheartened. I feel so helpless with not just the Ukraine situation, but all the fuckery that this administration is doing.

One of my close friends is standing on the corner of 620 and 71 with a Ukraine flag because she doesn't know what else to do.

I know it doesn't make a shit.

And talking to various people including my 18 year reveal how very few people even care to look around

It has to come from the populace. Politicians don't create the message so much as follow it.  If disavowing Ukraine and disrespecting its wartime leader is unpopular among Americans, the politicians will follow.  But there has to be massive upswell to leave no doubt.  Protests, social media posts, civil disobedience, every possible way of showing that the people of the United States are not for this.
