If Ukraine fights well enough that it looks like available NATO forces could join the fight for a decisive victory, do we do it?

Admittedly, almost all my knowledge of the situation comes from the last five pages of this thread. If the rapid response NATO army backed by NATO, including US, airpower could immediately tip the scale, I now consider that a real option.

I was fervently opposed to American involvement a few days ago, but now I'm not so sure. A humiliating defeat of Putin would prove they no longer field the Red Army and are the most flimsy of paper tigers.

From what I'm seeing of Russian fighting, I'm not sure that army would stand up at all against a western force.

Nukes? I don't see why MAD isn't still in effect. Putin himself would surely not survive the retaliation.

I haven't thought this through thoroughly, but my position of direct confrontation is rapidly changing. This begins to look like a fairly swiftly won war that would have favorable impact on our own interests and those of all democratic nations.

I'm pleased and surprised with the actions and collaboration of the NATO nations. This could be a great moment for boosting appreciation of what our republics are really all about.

Viva Ukraine!

it shouldn't happen and it won't happen, but the fact that biden could start, and win, world war 3 with a phone call must be making republican heads explode.  at least on twitter.

Exactly.  Jersey Mike's added lettuce to my sub today which is socialism.  Wait, what?

No.  Socialism is invading other countries.  Fascism is the one doing the bombing.  Don't get me started on capitalism and communism.

I think what he is saying is “look at these awesome fascists!   Socialists, don’t you want to be part of this FUPA-punching good time? “

it’s an invitation.

Charlie was a big fan of socialism when he got $10M of Texas's TV money from Kansas in exchange for winning 6 games in three seasons.

I assume he's following the Tubberville "they invaded because commies can't feed their people" logic.

This is a very complicated case.  A lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous, and, uh, a lotta strands to keep in my head, man.

For some of them its intentionally. I think he's just a fat fucking idiot who doesn't know shit except he hasn't seen his dick since the 1980s.

Evidently Putin is threatening Sweden and Finally to warn them agains joining NATO.

1.  Fuck off.

2.  If he really means that threat, that adds support to the theory that he might be deranged and/or detached.  He would get his shit completely pushed in there.

Admiral James Stavridis is a contributor on NBC and he’s been on Morning Joe a lot recently as they’re spending most of their time covering the Ukraine crisis/Russian invasion. He speaks glowingly of the Finnish and Swedish armies and said he’d tell them that if they applied for NATO membership on Wednesday then they’d be approved on Friday.

All I know is you want Finns in the band. (And yeah, these Finns are Aussies, but work with me here.)

Yeah, I seriously doubt Russia couldn't figure out supply lines for 48 hrs.

Before the fighting even started there were tweets about unfed troops lolling around a Belarus train station, having to buy food and water on their no-doubt-plentiful own money. Their officers were all off somewhere else.

He opposed communism, after they were friends.

A guy I work with who's family heritage is Ukrainians sounds like hillbillies compared to Russian. They should be easy to hear, apparently.

Those troops have been amassing at the border for several weeks now, and a lot of them just got there in the last 2 weeks. They may have overwhelmed their supply lines with the recent influx, plus the push forward into Ukraine. It's possible some areas are undersupplied at the moment.

If that is true, it's an epic logistical failure.

It's Russia, so I guess it's possible, but still.
