Always think of this lyric when I see this.

[Ice Cube]
Do-Ray-Me. But I don't sing, mothafucker.
I kick shit with the King, mothafucker.
Ice Cube will clock the cash, rock the mass,
and if you run up, I'll sock your ass.
And watch that eye get swollen,
cuz I'm playin' punk niggas like Beethoven.
So bust a cap or swing and die.
Fuck Yul Brynner, it's still The King and I.
Cuz where I'm from the sun don't shine,
so One-Time hope I only bust one rhyme.
But I bust one more for the suckers,
last year I was Ruthless, now I'm Lenchin' mothafuckers.
And you'll see in a tree, MCs and crews.
Now they're lookin' for me, King Tee, and Pooh.
Now every nigga that crossed me's soprano,
cuz I played their ass like a fuckin' piano...

I’ve never seen The Lost Weekend before. Good stuff but I’m beginning to feel a little guilty for being drunk

Holy shit. Really drunk guy sees a bat flying around the room that eats the mouse in the wall only for hot girlfriend to intervene. This 77 year old stuff hits close to home

Should Have Won and Did Win are two separate things.

LaLa Land and Chicago did.

Smh gif of your choice here

Are they doing any kind of theme for grouping movies together?  One year it was alphabetical, once sequential (I think), or linking actors from one movie to the next.

Looks like this year, they are doing Monday-30's (and a few late 20's), Tuesday-40's, etc up through Friday-70's, then the weekends are a mish-mash of all years up into the mid 2000's...

The Graduate is such a great movie. I forget who it was on this board who said they hated it but they were wrong. I mean, I’m sure they really did hate it but they were wrong about it not being a great film.

Don't underestimate Butterfield 8. Liz Taylor as a NY whore is worth watching.

One of those movies that you've seen a zillion times, and you see that it's on but you probably won't watch it, and you end up watching the whole thing again anyway.

“I’ll just tune in to see the scuba gear scene.” And then you’re hooked.

The Adventures of Robin Hood is the same way. “I’ll just tune in to see that first battle scene where Robin escapes from Prince John’s banquet.” Then I’m in for the ride.

For me it's the quarterstaff fight with Little John. BTW, Alan Hale played Little John in 3 different movies.

Alan Hale was great in everything that he did.  And, he was in a buttload of movies.

Not a Star Wars fan?

Harlan County, USA is on at 9:45 tomorrow. If you haven't seen this excellent documentary about a bloody Kentucky coal mine strike in the early 70's, I highly recommend.

Yeah Moonlight is probably ok. Not terribly interested, but it doesn't make me wanna holler like yet another musical. It's cool that some folks make money off of the production of musicals, but they are highly unlikely to get any of mine.

Yes. She fulfilled a fantasy of many young bucks of the time (myself included).

BTW, she was only 36.

It seems young now but back then that was middle aged. And it’s too bad she used a body double. It was still titillating.

There are so many other movies and tv shows that pay homage to that film. I just saw part of one of the Wayne’s World movies last weekend that recreated the wedding scene with the same music and everything. And how often has that under-the-leg shot of Ben been imitated? That’s one of the most iconic shots in American cinema.

For example:

I was middle aged back then, especially since everybody smoked like chimneys.

Granted it's been a while since I watched this all the way through, but this one scene caught me off guard. Talking about a striking miner that was killed by a scab, "Most of ya'll were friends with Horace Jones. He left behind a 16 year old wife and a 5 month old daughter."
