I’ve never seen the movie. But if you only own one jazz album, this should be the one:

Absolutely my favorite Richard Burton film.

Not directly related to Oscar month, but watching TCM right now, and they have a "Philip Marlow" movie with Dick Powell as Marlow.

Wow, what a lesson in taking the talents of legends (i.e. Bogey) for granted.

Next up is Bogart then follows Robert Montgomery, Robert Mitchum and James Garner in separate movies.

Disappointed that The Long Goodbye  with Elliot Gould does not make an appearance.

Yeah, really belongs in the schedule. Dick Powell is an interesting guy. Started out as a singer and when that fizzled, turned into a tough guy and rode that for another 20 years.

Tomorrow night is the shit. The Grapes of Wrath, Around The World in 80 Days, The Old Man and The Sea. Now that's a triple feature.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

War movie day. Air Force, Battleground, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, The Dirty Dozen, 12 O'Clock High, The Longest Day, From Here to Eternity, All Quiet on the Western Front, 49th Parallel. DVR is set for meltdown.

Dang, Air Force always seems to get a crappy time slot.

they shouldn't show From Here To Eternity on feature days. They show it often enough, one of the most played films in their library. They should put something in like Sahara, Bogey's tank movie that hardly ever shows.

Is everyone's TCM guide screwed up or just YTTV? They skipped an MGM promo that was an hour long before the war movies started. All my recordings are fubar.

Yep, it looks like they haven't changed their schedule grid for DST. Grid is all borked.

Robert Osbourne never would have let this happen.

I didn’t complain yesterday when it was all war movies, but I’m usually not a fan of the theme days. Today was swashbuckler day, and those aren’t my thing at all. Tomorrow looks to be political thrillers. One or two of any genre is fine, but an entire day is too much.

I got sucked into the animal movie theme the other night. The Black Stallion, then Lassie Come Home. Then I flipped over to FXMovies and the recent Call Of the Wild with Harrison Ford was on. Probably the newest movie I've seen in a good while.

The Thin Man movie review & film summary (1934) | Roger Ebert

Edited by RPM

Maltese Falcon is so good. I watch it with the subtitles on because they all speak so quickly.

Sam Spade : [ranting]  Now, both you and the police have as much as accused me of being mixed up in the other night's murders. Well, I've had trouble with both of you before. And as far as I can see my best chance of clearing myself of the trouble you're trying to make for me, is by bringing in the murderers all tied up. And the only chance I've got of catching them, and tying them up, and bringing them in, is by staying as far away as possible from you and the police, because you'd only gum up the works.

[turns to stenographer]

Sam Spade : You getting this all right, son, or am I goin' too fast for ya?

Stenographer : No, sir, I'm getting it all right.

Sam Spade : Good work.

Hadn’t seen Hud in ages. Still a favorite, and the cinematography is just so perfect!

I re-read this book last year before watching. Greatness.

I'm sad I am just now seeing this thread. Pure gold as always.

To me HUD is one of the quintessential Texas movies. The black and white just makes it so gritty and you can smell that ranch and ranch house.

Summer Under the Stars is cool, but no Noir Alley for a month sucks.

Noir and Neo-Noir TV Listings on TCM - The Film Noir Foundation

Yeah, I didn't think An Affair To Remember was considered noir.

Barbara Stanwyck day kinda makes up for it this week. Double Indemnity rocks. Billy Wilder is the king.
