March 7, 20223 yr How was the first player to get banned from this in this era not from the Raiders? Figured they would have had one before the end of their first preseason there.
March 7, 20223 yr 36 minutes ago, Michael Knight said: NFL really has their priorities straight Of course they do. Beat woman... has to effect on ability of league to make money Have players betting on games which calls into question the legitimacy of the league as a "sporting event"? Could ruin the league if left unchecked.
March 7, 20223 yr So back in my days on the 40 acres, had a class next to PJ Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge. So about a dozen of us would be outside the classrooms early. One day this nerdy guy asked PJ Tucker if he ever did sports betting. He shut any sort of that talk down quick, and told the guy no way because he would get in huge trouble. And that's it. That's my cool story, bro.
March 7, 20223 yr Just now, 4th&Five said: He lost $11 million in salary on $1,500 in wagers. Well fucking done, dude. Nice parlay
March 7, 20223 yr Doubling down in stupidity on Twitter isn’t going to help him either. But then, what should we expect? It’s a pretty clear rule.

March 8, 20223 yr the outcry from people that think it’s too harsh a punishment is quite entertaining. thankfully it’ll last a good long while.
March 8, 20223 yr He's an idoit, integrity of games blah blah, but the NFL has totally embraced gambling
March 8, 20223 yr Total chickenshit You got guys beat the shit out of women Joe Mixon and only get a couple games
March 8, 20223 yr fascinating that people don’t seem to understand what it means to have an NFL player betting on NFL games.
March 8, 20223 yr Jason Garrett should have been suspended for greater display of idiocy. See also: Jerry Jones.
March 8, 20223 yr I’m sure the Falcons, who are in Matt Ryan salary cap hell, are really upset about $11.5M coming off their 2022 cap.

I'm totally ok with him being suspended for a season. I'm not ok with wife beaters and child abusers getting a lesser punishment from the league.

Sure I do Meh, the issue I have is that the punishment is skewed compared to other stuff the NFL has suspended players for. "Oh but this is integrity of the game" (clutches pearls)

I'm all about suspending him for a year at least, i would think anyone involved with the NFL betting on the NFL is a lot like insider trading with the info they have access to. But you make a good point and i would like to see punishment for those infractions to be more serious as well.

"Oh but this is integrity of the game" (clutches pearls) Looks like you’re clutching more pearls than anyone here.It really comes down to this: they have definitive proof and clear rules against this violation.
March 8, 20223 yr How many games did Mr. Ridley bet on and was he betting on games in which he played?
March 8, 20223 yr A theoretical justification for going light on actual criminal offenses like domestic violence is that it is not the NFLs job to punish criminals and assess their guilt. While a gambling scandal probably isn't criminal at all. And the only party injured by it is the NFL. But that isn't the reason for any of this.
March 8, 20223 yr 9 hours ago, futureman said: fascinating that people don’t seem to understand what it means to have an NFL player betting on NFL games. What if a player wanted to make 17 moneyline bets on his team to win each game of the season, the same amount for each game, and they wanted to put down all of the bets the day before training camp opened? Edited March 8, 20223 yr by Ignatius
March 8, 20223 yr The NFL went all in promoting gambling this year and cashing in on it, then bans a player for betting when he wasn't playing.
March 8, 20223 yr I know the rule is clear and he should be suspended. BUT....... Calvin Ridley can't bet on his team to win but Stephen Ross can bribe his employee/coach to intentionally lose games? That's kinda fucked up...

March 9, 20223 yr He’s a complete f-ing idiot. However, a year for placing bets during a week you didn’t even play is a little ridiculous. That goes double when viewed in light of other suspensions.
