March 15, 20223 yr Looking at a new carrier in Amarillo who is offering cheap flights to Vegas( $92RT after fees) through NOV 11 with travel only happening on Thursdays and Sundays, which is great for football season. https://www.allegiantair.com/?intent=&gclid=CjwKCAjw8sCRBhA6EiwA6_IF4VZQIYhAbI5n9wzh59dcjdu6yiIfc0vXcLfBtBCp6e_y0xXdglHQYBoClEUQAvD_BwE They add like $102 for 1 carry on, but I can get what I need in the "one personal item( 7"x15"x16") Not looking for frills or extras... but also want to get there and back. Anyone ever used these guys( or similar marketed/ priced airline?) Edited March 15, 20223 yr by slorch
March 15, 20223 yr If you only carry a backpack and don't want anything on the airline and don't care who is around you and don't care when you may get there or when you may get home then they're alright
March 15, 20223 yr If your flight is delayed or canceled, don't expect to get to your destination at all. Their flight schedule, even from larger airports, is like two or three flights *a week*. I do not recommend it if you have something like show tickets, a prepaid hotel reservation, or plans to fly home.
March 15, 20223 yr It looks like their schedule from Amarillo, at least in the near future, is one flight out on Sunday, and one flight back on Wednesday. You will inevitably get screwed.
March 15, 20223 yr They had a number of safety issues 5-10 years ago, maybe they've cleaned up their act by now. I also remember a story about the CEO flying one of their planes and declaring "bingo fuel" which is one of those cringeworthy buzzwords only a CEO would say while talking to ATC. I would avoid them unless I was desperate.

Why take the risk to save a few $ on airfare when you're about to go to Vegas and throw money around at the tables?

March 16, 20223 yr I was leaving a trade show in Vegas one Sunday, and when we pulled up to the airport, there was a line about 100 yards long coming out one door and going down the sidewalk. It was Vegas hot, and these poor people were standing there baking. I was like "Oh fuck, is that the security line?" My Uber driver said Nah, that's the Allegiant check in line.
March 16, 20223 yr They are exactly how everyone else has described them, but for a cheap and short flight to Vegas you may be able to grit your teeth and make it through alive. Also, dig a little deeper on their website, I belive they may do free checked bags or seat selections for veterans.
March 16, 20223 yr Allegiant and Spirit are the only two airlines my company bans us from using. They have to be pretty terrible if we aren’t even allowed to fly them for free.
March 16, 20223 yr Only time I’ve ever flown allegiant is when I was on a charter flight. I’ve never paid for a flight with them.
March 16, 20223 yr Allegiant is fucking pretty Spartan but I would fly again for a short hop to Den. Spirit is fucking brutal, even worse if you have to check a bag or a surf board or need service. Plus, you are surrounded by never traveling assholes getting screwed by an airline exploiting fine print with employees charged with being dick as company credo. It's awful. United on the return felt civilized by comparison.
March 16, 20223 yr Flew Sanford, Fl to Greensboro, NC one time for $47. We survived. Edited March 16, 20223 yr by SimonBolivar
March 16, 20223 yr I’ve flown out of and into Amarillo a couple of hundred times since 1970; kinda fascinating how service in/out has peaked and deteriorated. I think it was better when you had to drag your baggage across the tarmac and climb the stairs into a Texas International (?) turboprop. I’d consider driving before Allegiant.
March 16, 20223 yr Don't worry about cancellations during football season. I've heard Amarillo weather is very predictable in December.
March 16, 20223 yr Took the kids to Florida several years ago on Allegiant. Everyone is pretty spot on. If you just want to get from A to B with zero frills etc its fine. And I think they are upgrading their fleet these days but be prepared to fly a 40 yr old MD-80 etc
March 16, 20223 yr My parents occasionally are on an Allegiant flight to some casino. Their usual comment is that it is full of people who have never flown before and have no idea how to behave on an airplane. The flight attendants have dirty nails, per my Mother. But it works pretty well for retirees on casino junkets, where time and schedules don't matter much and they take their own snacks anyway.

March 16, 20223 yr I felt like I was sitting in an elementary school cafeteria chair while in the sky. Never ever again.

We have flown from Wichita to Vegas a couple of times and it was easy enough and without any delays. That was quite a few years ago and things are probably different now. We survived but the dirty fingernails were offputting.

March 16, 20223 yr They fly out of Northwest Arkansas into both Vegas and Phoenix and everything said here is spot on. I've never taken them and never will but I know dozens of people who have flown them into Vegas only to get cancelled altogether or flown into Phoenix and then have to figure out how to get to Vegas. Flights are only two days ago so if it's cancelled, you're screwed. Planes are old and crammed with poors who never or rarely fly. I'm amazed by upper middle class people who will spend thousands on a resort vacation and then try to save $50 by flying Shitbox Air.

Seeing how it was the MD-80s which would spontaneously combust, OP should be fine.

March 16, 20223 yr Yeah, from Amarillo I'd avoid. Although more direct flights won't suck, as otherwise can add 2-3x the travel hours if not, so wouldn't be first choice but wouldn't rule them out either. Can always grab a flight on another airlines worst case something happens.
March 16, 20223 yr Doesn't Southwest fly n/s to LAS from AMA? I know they did in the before times. While I'm not a Southwest fanboi, I would fly them a million times before stepping foot on an Allegiant plane.

They were the one carrier to still sell booze on the planes when everyone else stopped during covid. The flight attendant didn't cut off my buddies and let them buy 6 drinks. It wasn't cheap for my buddies (the booze) but they got what they wanted. Edited March 16, 20223 yr by Tex48
March 17, 20223 yr I think I went from Medford to Mesa with them. Best flight ever. Maybe 5 people on the plane.
March 17, 20223 yr I flew to OKC a while back on Allegiant. It was awesome because there was no one on the flight and it was direct from Austin. The down side is they cancelled my return flight an hour before the flight. They couldn’t find a pilot and left me stuck in the shithole that is OKC. Never again
March 17, 20223 yr Allegiant Air: It's not about your destination, it's about how many assholes you meet along the way when we leave you stranded.

March 19, 20223 yr Flew allegiant Fargo to Orlando/ Sanford a few days ago. Avoid Minneapolis/Chicago/Atlanta/ Dallas and MCO. Sanford was dead at 1030PM and I had my rental car keys in 10 min. Flight was delayed a whopping 30 min. F the haters
March 19, 20223 yr Always like doing Vegas cheap, but I haven’t had the balls to do Allegiant. Such a limited schedule always scares me. I did SAT to Vegas once for $73 round trip on frontier…for two. Carried personal bags, didn’t get hotel, flew back the next day. Better than a night out in San Antonio. I’ve done that a few times.
June 22Jun 22 Allright....I'm tempted to grab a flight on one of these shitbuckets as they are apparently the only direct flight between Austin and Asheville these days. How bad is this going to be? Worse than Spirit? I guess I could always fly direct into Charlotte and grab a rental car for the weekend, but that seems like a lot of additional cost and hassle. @Celery Man you ever fly Allegiant to austin? Aw shit, I think CM is in Raleigh, not Asheville. anybody else fly Allegiant lately? Edited June 22Jun 22 by Blotto

Aw shit, I think CM is in Raleigh, not Asheville. anybody else fly Allegiant lately? We flew out on them last week from Austin to Knoxville. The flight was fine and the plane was on a newish Airbus. The South terminal is super simple & easy so that makes things easier on the Austin end. They are no frills & we only use them for directs we can’t get otherwise out of Austin. If you want to check multiple bags & pick your seat, their cost approaches that of other airlines. As mentioned: 1. You have to pay for both checked baggage & carry on (your small personal bag is free) 2. You have to pay to select your seats or your group could get dispersed all over the plane. 3. Bring your boarding pass (digitally or in paper) or they will charge you ($5?) to print it at the airport. 4. At Austin, the Allegiant staff is nice but they handle both checking bags & customer service. Don’t expect them to be speedy if you’ve a request. 5. You aren’t, but I’d never fly them if there was a connection. They typically don’t have service every day so any delays/cancelations could result in a multi-day delay to your destination.
June 22Jun 22 I flew the from Houston to Ashville a year ago with no issues. It's so easy out of Hobby. Not bad if you have just a 2 hour flight.
