Boom, bitches!

I've always believed in PDJ!!!

Up 2, can't argue with that.  Still #29 on schedule strength going forward (54 games @ 0.457 composite opponents).  Dodgers (0.692) the toughest left, and then the Braves (0.582) and the Padres (0.555).  Put more succinctly, 9 games against teams with better records, 45 games against teams with worse records, including 7 against the Brewers, which should go a long way towards determining the NL Central title.

Eh, StL fans are no different than other fans, in fact they're worse.  They don't understand the game, they don't get to know the players, there is no community.  They've been largely "meh" for over 50 years.  Fuck the Cardinals.

Did I get that right?

Sweep the Yankees and then drop 2 of 3 to the Rockies.  On point.  Half game lead.

Going forward, we (might) have this in our favor, regarding remaining strength of schedule:

StL:  #29 (0.459)

Mil:  #11 (0.507)

I'm becoming grunted with the moves at the deadline.  Both pitchers look good so far. Goldy and arenado is a helluva 1-2 punch and I can't believe dejong. He looks nothing like the guy that got sent down in May.

As much as I'm going to miss Bader if Montgomery is as good as he's looked in the first 2 starts it was probably worth it.

Gallegos is the new C-Mart

I took the boys to the game last night. I was really looking forward to seeing the players and Whitey. I am afraid that Ken Oberkfell won't be with us much longer. He was still involved in professional baseball just a few years ago. Last night, he looked like the oldest person in the group. 66 years old and looked way older than Whitey. It took a couple of people several minutes to get him out of the vehicle that they brought him in. It also took quite a while to get him situated in a chair. He mostly kept his head down looking at the ground the entire ceremony.

Huge win today, especially with the Brewers having to play 4 against the Dodgers now while the Cards host the Rockies.

Damn.. Anyone watching the Bally broadcast? They just showed the video where Wynton Bernard called his mom to tell him he was going to the show. It got a little dusty here.

Pujols send off tour is fun to watch.

It is when Oli uses him correctly, like today.

Yeah...that was aggressive putting him in in the 3rd. I like it.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Cardinals are the first team in big league history to have a player at least 40 years old hit a grand slam and another at least 40 to pitch seven shutout innings in the same game.

Read somewhere that it was the first pinch hit grand slam in the 3rd or earlier since a Yankee did it in like 1975.

Geezus helsley... you had a kid.... great. Get back in the fucking bullpen.

At least he's not running off to another country to deal with his basketball team.

That was a straight-up shitty loss.  Need to win tonight to cleanse it.

Might not take this game or series, but I love this team.  Arenado cranks a 2-run HR to left, Goldie waits at home plate, and they do a basic handshake, pat on the back.  Pure business, none of the choreographed jackassery seen all too often (and sometimes in StL).

Atl is just better than us but I'll take a walk off walk any day!

Flaherty supposed to be back to start on 9/5.  I really don't expect much, but I am REALLY hoping that he takes that spot from Hudson.

Biggest hit of the season by TON.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree.  That was a big series, and taking it late in game 3 is a big boost.  Still up 6 on the drunks.

Hudson is just bad.

I think that might have been it for him in the rotation.  I'd like to think that's why he was allowed to go out in the 5th, as kind of a last chance.  The other alternative is that Oli can't manage pitchers for shit, which is probably more plausible.

Maybe they just piggyback him on Flaherty?

Not sure where I read or heard, but they may go with a 6 man rotation. I would prefer that they go with 5 provided that Flaherty is better than Hudson. I hate the idea of Hudson starting any games the rest of the way.

Flaherty will be back for a start or two and something else will break. Can't count on him. I hope I'm wrong. Is matz still possible for a late Sept return?

Let's see we have Edmonds doing color commentary on the StL broadcast and Joey Votto doing it on the Cincy channel.  This is really hard to decide who to listen to...

Why the hell was Yadi batting in the 11th with 2 outs and runner on 3rd?  Automatic out and then he's ghost runner in the 12th.  Fucked us two ways.

And now he's pinch-running Knizner, after a walk!

How bad was Votto?  Was he Edmonds bad?

He actually wasn't good, but at least he's pretty intelligent, unlike Edmonds.  And he wasn't playing with his phone the entire game, unlike Edmonds.

One of my best friends from HS lived in the same condo complex as Edmonds for a while.  She totally wanted to molest him, but never got the call.  Even she acknowledged that he was dumb as a stump, and that was while she thought she still had a chance.

The Cardinals are 6.5 games ahead of the Brewers, with a half dozen series to go before we get the Dodgers.  Neither STL or MIL faces a murderer's row in that timeframe, and there are a pair of games between the two clubs.

Here's my attempt at assessing the two teams' schedule strength over the next 6 series (Cardinals 0.424, Brewers 0.488), with no attempt to account for home/away:

Jordan Montgomery:  5-0, 1.47 ERA since arriving in StL.  I think the kid might work out.

It's pissing me off that they're burying Carlson on the bench.

Not quite the same as Tommy Lasorda pitching to Jack Clark to seal the Pennant, but that was still pretty sweet for Pujols.
