St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright will likely miss "several weeks" after suffering a groin strain during the World Baseball Classic, manager Oliver Marmol told reporters on Thursday.

Wainwright, 41, who was scheduled to be the Cardinals' starter on Opening Day as he enters his 18th season with St. Louis, will begin the season on the injured list, Marmol said.

The injury happened during a weight room workout Tuesday with Team USA during the World Baseball Classic.

Did he think he wouldn't make the roster?

Was expected he would start the season at AAA.

Huh.  Didn't realize that.  The guy seems a natural big-leaguer.

I think it was just the same old mozeliak garbage....rookies can't start the year at the big club. Have to go to Memphis and then if you do ok there maybe we'll call you up at the all-star break to affect service time and whatnot. They never even called him up to Memphis last year.

But he raked in spring training. Can't wait to see him play. Could be special.

So the day is finally here.  I love opening day, especially when the Cardinals are opening at home.  Maybe one day I'll be able to attend, but I'll be watching on TV today.  Have any of you been to opening day in STL?

Also, are we going to roll with this thread this season?

Last place.  Season over.
